Only in the latter half of the game does the design falter -- a copy-and-paste level here, too much doodad collecting there, all topped off with a mind-bending final level that might be a bit too demanding for neophyte players who cut their teeth on Nintendogs and Brain Age.

In short, Galaxy is one of the most impressive, engrossing games in recent memory -- and quite the contrast to the rest of this year's triple-A gaming crop, which tends toward the dark, the M-rated, and the first-person perspective. Gaming may be growing up (per se), but gamers will always appreciate beautifully polished gameplay and inventive design...even if it's sugarcoated with squeaky baby stars and a goofy cartoon of a hero. Galaxy proves that Mario matters just as much today as he did 25 years ago, and that makes him one of a kind in this medium. But don't play Galaxy simply because Mario is the timeless godfather of gaming. No, play Galaxy because it's fantastic.

Wow, this is the best game I've never played.

This reads like a 11/10, so basically Mario Galaxy is > than everything else.

I really think that in some reviewers mind there is a higher bar to clear for a Wii game to get a 10. I don't think its a conspiracy or any bullshit like that, just subconsciously being wowed be graphics makes it easier to forgive other flaws.

For reference, I'm pretty sure This is the same reviewer that gave TP a 10 (which I think it handily deserved). I'd be interested in hearing why mario scored lower. TP was an incredibly awesome game, and I don't nessecarily expect mario to pass it for me, but based on videos and impressions, I think it has a decent shot.

Wario64 did it a couple of times and it was funny, but it's been done so much it's gone from funny to damn annoying and litters the thread. First couple of pages of review threads can be thrown into the trash, ifnot the entire thread altogether.

It used to be sorta funny, but now it's just really stupid and annoying. That and spoiler tagging scores seriously need to be bannable.

I love...LOVE...not kidding...when the only reason points are removed is because of intense difficulty, and that seemed to be one of Parish's primary complaints. It's like, I can take the -0.5 he applied, and change that to a +0.5, and thus the true score is 10.5.

Actually he mentioned the Wii's inability to display HD images, and noted that if the Wii were able to do so the game could've looked a lot better. And I agree. Still, I wouldn't let that bring the score down (not saying this is why he gave it a 9.5).
