Ugh, that doesn't sound very encouraging.

I'd like to hear impressions of the script, btw.

I'll see what I can do. Apparently they haven't been protective of their scripts thus far so I'm surprised they haven't leaked into the wild already.

Apparently the first episode features a scene where the lead female lifts up her skirt, while on the tour of a castle no less, to reveal she isn't wearing any underwear and the male protag goes down on her...., again while touring a castle.

To be fair, when hasn't castle tourism ended in cunnilingus?

I have friends working on this and as far as I'm aware it's already started shooting. Owing to Scotland's woeful production facilities (the country has no sound stages to accommodate a series like this) they are having to convert an old carpet factory into some makeshift studio.

Sounds very poorly planned out. Shouldn't they have found studios and soundstages and the like before deciding to film there?

I also hear that the series is choke full of explicit sex and nudity. Initially Starz and Sony had wanted to cast a name actress in the lead but couldn't find one that would agreement to so much of the series explicit sex.

Isn't there a lot of explicit sex in the books though? I haven't read them, so I wouldn't know, but I seem to remember hearing that at some point. Also. is the nudity more on par with Spartacus and Game of Thrones or is it more "porn-y"?

anyway yay explicit sex and nudity! :D plz tell me there's male nudity too?

Oh my lol. Sounds awesome.

I'll try and get my hands on some of the scripts if anyone cares to know what they're like. Though I suspect no one will.

I'm definitely curious about the quality of the scripts. Try to send some impressions our way, yeah? :)

I keep seeing this said, but whenever I try to look for information I can't find any mention of it. Is there a source for this?

“It is in a slow pause just because we can’t go forward on a pilot that would not be affordable.

Fuck this! I was under the impression he was making another scifi show set in space. This thread ruined my day.

I really don't think I'll like this series even if it turns out great. I love Ron Moore and Ira Steven Behr but I don't care for back in time travel to medieval Scotland. I want some more Space Sci-fi Mr. Moore, give it to me!

How can you know though unless you give it a shot? 1940s to medieval Scotland time travel is a pretty novel concept.

Maybe Helix will scratch that itch even though it's not set in space?

My wife is a huge fan so I was required to at least give the series a chance.

It's honestly not that bad, and though it's heavy on the romance I imagine that will be toned down a bit for the show. It's basically a fish-out-of-water story, set against the backdrop of Scottish clan politics, English control and the Jacobite Rising. In that way, it sort of has a Braveheart-but-later-with-time-travel thing going on.

There's not that much rape, though what's in there is set pretty deeply in the realm of uncomfortable. It's hard to comment on without spoiling things, but the one that sticks out the most in my memory was the polar opposite of a rape fantasy and... yeah... uncomfortable is just the best word to describe it.

One thing that will have to be cut though is, I shit you not, in the paper back edition
the god damned Loch Ness Monster shows up on page 350.
I felt like I was being trolled hard core.

Doubtful, looks like horror stuff which I don't like but we'll see. I'm still gonna give Outlander a try but everything I hear tells me I wont like it, we have enough medieval and fantasy shows we need more space sci-fi.

Sounds exactly like a Starz show. I remember reading an article a while back where someone said that the Starz people require there to be sex and nudity in every series that they do. So you'll find sex in the dramas and the comedies and everywhere else.

True, but sex is a big part of the books (apparently) so it's not like it's super out of place here.

The whole thing sounds like a desperate attempt to grab onto some of the Game of Thrones audience, particularly the over the top sex.

The first Outlander and SoIAF books came out the same year, and even before the series airs I'd say Game of Thrones has more additional sex and nudity added onto it than Outlander will, since a lot of it was there in the first place.

It's really not (at least the book series isn't.)

I don't think the Game of Thrones fanbase at large will like the TV series at all. They'll probably get a lot of historical fiction fans who liked Braveheart, and their wives. Mostly the wives, to be honest. There's no medieval setting at all. It's 1740s Scotland. Horses and farmers yes, Redcoats yes, noble houses and kingdoms and high court politics, no.

In fact the central plot isn't fantasy at all (besides the time travel thing)
because Claire and Jaime get caught up in (and try to prevent) the last Jacobite uprising in Scotland, which is a thing that actually happened.
And then (spoiler for future TV seasons, based on the book series, if it ever gets that far)
they find themselves in the Colonies during the American Revolution.

Despite the embarrassing lack of any sort of studio facilities in Scotland I hear the production has actually been going really well with what (evidently little) they have.

I'm actually curious to see how this turns out.

At first I thought this was about Outland the sci fi movie with Sean Connery

Interestingly (or not) WB have been trying to get a remake of Outland going for years. At one point they had considered making it with a 'high end' cable TV show but I think it's being kicked around again as a film project.

That's encouraging to hear. Did you ever manage to get a hold of a script? Any more stories from your friends?

Is this the same one that people were live tweeting yesterday? I was following everyone's tweets and it was really entertaining.

Trailer looks excellent, but the Youtube link already no longer works.. it's on Facebook though:

The trailer didn't do a whole lot for me, but it was more of a teaser than a trailer anyway. I'm still really looking forward to this.
