People are mad that Death Stranding could win 2019 GOTY Award

Maybe, but you get the point.
So maybe Yoshi should seriously quit gaming for having different goty candidates?

Reason I keep pressing is that I'd hope to see you admit 'yeah, ok, that was a dumb thing to say'. Not undignifiedly wiggle your way out with a 'maybe' as if there's some truth to your statement after all.

Just admitting you were wrong would be sufficient. Oh wait, this is the internet, I forgot ...

80% of the reviews are positive, of which one 75 and a vast majority of them 90+, as well as the most 10/10s this year.

17% mixed and only 3% low scores.

I'll leave it at that though.
You should. You keep missing the point. Sorry to have hurt your fanboy heart.

It wouldn’t surprise me, but any game nominated “can” win.

Death Stranding has so much star power and hype behind it, it’s too big to fail. Fanboys won’t let it and the industry can’t allow it. It’s the video game equivalent of Oscar bait.

If it wins, it will just cheapen the award, if that’s possible.

Control is my GotY.

Why the fuck does anyone care? How does DS winning affect anyone's life in a significant enough manner to be outraged about it winning?

People need some fucking hobbies or something.
because people like jim sterling, videogamedunky, ign gave it shit reviews and the internet memed it as a walking simulator so there is no way that game can be good so it must be geof who makes it win according to the people who did not play it and never wil

I don’t think there’s any foul play on Geoff’s side of things, especially since he doesn’t vote (Famitsu does however), but it should be brought to people’s attention. Rich from ReviewTechUSA nails it.
The guy who runs the famitsu had his likeness in three games, and all three games got 40 out of 40. One of them being Death Stranding. He's one of the deciders of what games get nominations. Death stranding gets eight nominations.

Yeah. Nothing sketchy as fuck about any of that.

something similar happened with Gremlins 2, where there’s a cameo with a critic (who is also friends with the director), and that same critic rated Gremlins 2 higher than his Gremlin 1 review.

If you hate the show, why keep talking about? Just admit you hate the show and move on. Is impossible to please everyone you know. Make much sense than every year complain about running in circle.
Because I do not agree with the show's winner titles historically, I hate the show? Where does that come from? It is an enjoyable show, or what I have seen of it (I only watch highlights afterwards, because it is running middle of the night here).

Make much sense than every year complain about running in circle.
I have been here for 14 years, enjoy finding my many complaints about the picks for GotY. Do I agree with the picks? No. But that does not mean I complain. I am well aware that I do not have mainstream tastes and also that the VGAs are very US centric, which makes it less likely even for the games that I like that are more mainstream to win the award. I can still enjoy a good show and especially enjoy the games I like to play. No reason to stop playing games, no reason to complain about the VGAs. The Death Stranding situation is different.

I wonder if DS end up not being the game of year. Does this whole situation gonna be the same after that?

I doubt it doesn't get it. But if it doesn't, it probably still takes about 8 of the 10 awards its nominated for 🤣🤣🤣.

The emotional investment to this whole thing is quite amazing.

Whether it wins or loses one side is gonna cry while the other gloats about it lol.

Only the stupid ones.
There was nothing to the whole Doritos Pope thing either as far as Keightley goes, but it was enough to light a fire under peoples asses at the time. Rightly or wrongly, People made a big deal about how cosy press and publishers were in terms of conflict of interest (which is less about the facts versus the appearance/opportunity for impropriety) and that whole thing contributed to the powder keg known as Gamergate. Jessica Chabot from IGN turning up in ME3 as Diane Allers was a bad idea back in 2012 and nothing has changed since in that regard.

The inherent problem with this particular situation is regardless of how much Keightley might say otherwise unless the VGAs plan of releasing the voting ballots from the various judges (which I highly doubt) there will always be the suspicion as the validity of the results because of his involvement in the project. The fault lies with Geoff for agreeing to that at the end of the day.

Does it matter? For me personally Astral Chain, Sekiro and Fire Emblem Three Houses are my personal highlight for this year. Even they never end up winning anything in this VGA, it doesn't change how I feel about those games. Game announcements are my biggest reason watch these shows.

No one actually cares about the awards. It's always been about seeing new game trailers.

This.

I was going to bring up the Ryckert situation, as it’s pretty relevant. The difference is that Ryckert didn’t review the game. Despite Ryckert not reviewing the game, the fact that a Game Informer editor was scanned into the game raised concerns and questions.

This situation here is what would have happened if, instead of Ryckert, Andy McNamara did it. As the Editor-in-Chief, McNamara’s involvement in the game— no matter how slight or allegedly insignificant— would have understandably raised serious conflict of interest questions.

And that scenario is what’s playing out with Keighley. Like in the hypothetical above, Keighley is like McNamara in that he’s the head honcho— the guy in charge of everything. His enthusiasm for Death Stranding, his subsequent inclusion in the game, and his relationship with Kojima all look really bad in light of his leadership role with the awards show in question.

holy fuck I just finished chapter 9
This game DESERVES to win that GOTY 100%
Geezus christ how is this game so fucking good and how did they make it in like 3 years..

This game was memed so fucking hard as a walking simulator and then u had idiotic reviewers like ign who gave it a 6.7 while complaining in his review about how much time it takes to fast travel while u barely need to use it in this game. I bet he did not even finish the game. And u had idiotic reviewers like jim sterling who have to use a clickbait title as ''made for walking'' while u can do so many missions with a bike or car. And god dam u also had stupid reviewers who kept complaining about it being tedious when u have to keep pressing both triggers to walk stable but u get so many shit like power skeletons to counter that.

Dam, this game was not reviewed by so many for what it actually is and many people either did not finish it or went in with so much hate.

Game with the best story in 2019
Best cutscenes and once u get passed the first 2 chapters u are not bombared with big long cutscenes constantly.
The performances from the actors are REALLY good
The music in this game is brilliant. Very wel chosen and there really are some breathtaking moments when music starts playing while on a long hike.
The bosses look insane, sure they are pretty easy but its not even their idea to have hard bosses but the visuals dam..
Amazing mechanics in the game like the way u can climb everything, descent with the ropes. Use ziplines, build ladders, bridges
A really unique great online component that really makes a difference

People need to shut up about this game not being GOTY worthy. most people who say it are either just hating cozz they think geof is rigging it
or they have not played it and only listened to reviewers who clearly had a hard time reviewing this game for what it is
I vote this post as POTY (Post of the Year), alongside DS's GOTY...………

You choose to get upset at Dunkey for giving a game a bad review despite him making a YouTube career where he exaggerates issues in games for comedic effect.

Yes, people on the internet called it a walking simulator but they've been doing it long before the game went gold. I was someone who would interject and point out on this site how the game also features shooting, driving etc. but my assumption was that those other mechanics would play a larger role. Yet it turns out that it really does focus a lot on simulating walking.

Then there's the idea that it only really gets good after the first 10 hours. Why? There are games like Max Payne, Splinter Cell, Hitman, Final Fantasy whatever that are good within the first hour of playing! When was the last time you heard someone say any of the Metal Gear Solid games finally get good after 6 or 8 or 10 or more hours? If I'm not enjoying a game within the first hour, I'm dropping it to play something else. And it's a shame because Death Stranding really does look intriguing in regards to its story and surreal imagery.

Only current gen launch year sucked with garbage like Dragon Age Inquisition. Otherwise... best gen ever. Every year has been great.

still fake game awards show... we will all be tuning in for the new Batman trailer and not much else.

I feel last gen was way better tbh. This gen focused more on rematers and sequels sadly. Not enough new ideas or groundbreaking gameplay imo.

Best things to come out of this gen are shareplay and gamepass. At least imho.

I think the Famitsu situation looks slightly worse. With Famitsu, their magazines have been in a few of Kojima’s games, and the former editor-in-chief of Famitsu also makes a cameo and the magazine is on the list of voters.

Yeah, They should totally exclude a game and its developers from awards designed to recognize hard work and artistry because someone who has absolutely no voting power is cursorily involved with it. /s

The only ones who care about this are those who hate Death Stranding and are terrorized by the idea that it could be recognized for the great game it is. Well, though luck. It's obvious that they don't care about your whining and they're going forward with it, as they should.

The funny thing is that we live in a world in which one of the biggest magazines & media outlets in the industry is owned by a video game retailer, and no one says "buh" about it.

I have been here for 14 years, enjoy finding my many complaints about the picks for GotY. Do I agree with the picks? No. But that does not mean I complain. Wow. That's a quite of post. Lets make clear for everyone who are quoting my previous posts. I was very sereve saying about you quiting the game.
I apologize in advance. But again those guys always pick the worst scenario and the post war keeping get bigger until this and I won't gonna putting in merit your offtopic discussions on this thread either, because your opinions there are always divergent no matter what.
First, you don't even need mention the times you spend in videgame. I guess for a gaming forum is actually funny someone post that like 'I'm 20 years old playing games' or 'you want a picture proving so?'. I get. Everyone here have their gaming history, but what I trying to point is your general dissatisfaction about the GOTY program. As I mention in my others post and somehow people keep ignoring, is fine by me when your pick don't win the GOTY. Happens with me about Horizon Zero Dawn losing for BOTW. But you know what, thats totally fine too.
What we can agree at this point is don't make things personal. 'I hate "X" because this and that'. You really should admit you don't particularly like the show like many others here in the thread. Instead, you said 'I don't like three years ago, two years ago and last year picks'. I mean, at this point if was me of course I should drop the show because he don't meets my expectations.
I really hate those guys of the EDGE magazine, but you don't need much effort to find this. Feel free to look at my post history if so. People here know I hate that particular magazine. I already trying a healthy discussion with them, but no sucess. I don't need to hide this sentiment or keep finding engagement on the subject.

In resume, just let it go.

I dont think any game as polarizing as this should win Game of the Year. It should be a game that is almost universally liked imo. I mean even a couple of the '10/10' reviews said the actual gameplay is boring.
If this wasnt a Kojima game, but was still the exact same game, it wouldnt be anywhere near to any awards.

I wonder if DS end up not being the game of year. Does this whole situation gonna be the same after that?
Even if DS does not take GOTY, it would have taken many awards and sealed itself as a highly praised and high mindshare game this year...….Thing is, Kojima has already accomplished what he wanted with the game, everyone is talking about DS, those who've played, those who have not played, those who think its GOTG/GOTY or those who think it's worse than Superman 64, it doesn't matter, DS is trenched and heavy in the conversation on forums, youtube, award ramblings everywhere...….and it's not the end, because sales talk will make the rounds soon enough......Then LTTP's for those who judged before they played.....or who were late. retrospectives, games which will copy DS in the future, how they are received...….There's much more talk coming based on DS, you better best believe......

Let's be honest, even here at GAF's annual awards, I've seen people cry because their favorite but maybe obscure game did not win or a game which many people preferred overall is now castigated by the internet's los illuminados…..So i'm really not sure you can stop people from crying, it's now part of their DNA, for some reason, some people wanted DS buried scorched and flamed, all these nominations were sure to raise their ire....You would think they would invest more time replaying the games they deem GOTY and leave DS alone, but no.....So,,,,,,
