My advice to those mad people: don’t be so serious
Its already explained in the video that Geoff have no say or power on this award as hes not appointed as a jury
You guys should really watch the video first before making early verdict
As others have already noted Geoff K doesn't have a vote in the actual results, however I think it was pretty short sighted of him to agree to the cameo he made in DS because it inherently undermined the credibility of the whole VGAs to many people as he is the public face to the organisation
You might as well give up cause practically every reviewer gets their copies of games for free. Your only hope are people that do this for a hobby as opposed to a job.No shit, people usually react angrily towards injustice (and corruption).
Yeah, that Conan O'brien review was absolutely glowing!it’s really funny how the games best scores are all given by people they put in the game.
He is the producer of the show and as such, I think it would be important to stay impartial and if one is not impartial, to make the products you cannot be impartial to from eligability. He is free to not do this, but then he will have to live with the corresponding criticism. He does not need to directly pick nominees to have some direct or indirect influence on the outcome of such a voting (e.g. by the choice of who gets to nominate or vote) and therefore I think he should have taken DS out of the equation. Shuld have done the same for Yoshi's Crafted World if he was a Craft in that.Again, he has nothing to do with the voting. Move on already

He doesn’t pick the nominees also. It’s funny how just because Death Stranding on the list there’s a lot of fuss but when BotW won it? It’s okay. When the Dragon Age: Inquisition won it? It’s okay. When Telltale’s Walking Dead won it? It’s okay. But this time? Oh noooo how can someone in the industry have a strong relationship with a developer in the same industry have his game among the nominees? Oh because it’s his show so he’s probably going to make him win. He doesn’t nominate nor vote. If Death Stranding wasn’t among the nominees nobody would’ve said shit but yeah here’s that. Many other categories and awards won by games that didn’t deserve shit among the other nominees with it. Thank you. But I guess that’s fine because it isn’t a Kojima game and they aren’t friends with GeoffWould that be any worse than The Walking Dead from Telltale winning GOTY?
Because no, it wouldn't.
I am unaware he has particularly strong ties to Walking Dead or BotW. You know, it is not like I have a huge investment in either nominated game. I do not own a single one of the games nominated, for good reason. I couldn't care less if Death Stranding wins this over any of the other games, they all mean nothing to me. But my understanding of professionalism and decency commands that to ensure a fair process, distance is required. Where that distance cannot be guaranteed, exempt the candidate. He doesn’t pick the nominees also. It’s funny how just because Death Stranding on the list there’s a lot of fuss but when BotW won it? Honestly, I don't care anymore. If DS wins Goty, I'll just grab my glass of wine, go outside on the balcony and laugh into the night, shouting 'you clowns! You goddamn clowns did it!'. Then I'll get drunk and tweet something containing the words 'fuckojima', 'Doritos Pope' and 'i hate you dad', but not before typing a WhatsApp message to that goth girl that turned me down 3 times already. I'll then fall asleep and wake up next day to find I vomited all over my bed in sleep. I'll sit down on my chair and contemplate about life. I take out my phone, watch Quiet's rain cutscene from MGS5 and fap one out. I then clean up the room, swear to never drink again and go for a walk outside. Some friend texts me, saying 'lol did you see what won goty? Fucking DS!!1'. I look up from the phone's screen to the sky and make a deep sigh. "I don't care ..." I mumble as I proceed to find out what life has left in store for me.
Yeah that was particularly sad. Amusing though.Did you ever have a gander at the review thread? People were outraged about low scores.
Yes, thank you, indeed, that is precisely the point. Do I personally think Walking Dead is a great game? No. But I have no reason to assume there is any issue with the process. Just a lot of people having a different taste than me.Thank you. But I guess that’s fine because it isn’t a Kojima game and they aren’t friends with Geoff
same thing applies on Death Stranding. Why is it a special case now? Because Geoff has a strong relationship with Kojima? He has strong relationships with other developers too. What makes this years case any different?Yes, thank you, indeed, that is precisely the point. Do I personally think Walking Dead is a great game? He is part of the game. He was involved in making the game. If I were heading NeoGAF games of the years procedures, I sure would take my own game out of the process entirely. I expect this to be a standard consideration.same thing applies on Death Stranding. Why is it a special case now? Because Geoff has a strong relationship with Kojima? Same bro!In my top 5 games of all time. I fully expect it to win easily.

So what? Where’s the problem exactly? He isn’t the one nominating nor voting so I don’t find an issue. Unless he goes around threatening the outlets that’s voting then that’s a different case. As it stands, there’s nothing wrong with it as long as Geoff isn’t nominating nor voting. He is part of the game. He was involved in making the game. Also because he’s in the game, and it’s really funny how the games best scores are all given by people they put in the game.
So 2018 God of War didn’t deserve itIn a year where games like RE2 Remake exist, yeah, I can see why they'd be mad. Death Stranding is nowhere near the best release of the year, but we know the Game Awards are all about backstage politics and string-pulling favors, no different than the film and music awards. Awards hardly go out to the best candidates, just the most popular or hype-generating.
So what? Where’s the problem exactly?
I’m not defending anything. It’s just funny how TGA is suddenly relevant this year when nobody gave a shit about the awards but only the announcements in the past yearsAside from:
— Keighley actually being IN THE GAME that’s been heavily nominated?
— Keighley’s documented fanboy-level obsession with Kojima, which has been made very public (on his own shows and on social media)?
You’re being exceptionally disingenuous with your defense here. If Keighley does have “strong relationships” with other industry players, none of them have been made more public or into more of a spectacle than his relationship with Kojima.
Death Stranding may or may not be the best game of 2019, but Keighley’s connections to the game’s key development team player and his acceptance of having a role in the game in question should have disqualified it from consideration on the awards show that he pays for and produces. The questionable perception is his fault, based on his actions.
So 2018 God of War didn’t deserve it
In 2017 Breath of the Wild didn’t deserve it
In 2016 Overwatch didn’t deserve it and so on right?
I’m not being a “super fanboy” I’m being reasonable. He isn’t nominating nor voting so why’s that a problem? You got a problem with both of them dudes? That’s up to you. Just don’t go around saying the game doesn’t fucking deserve to be there because “Geoff is in it” or because “he’s gay for Kojima” fuck off with that shit. If the game is good it must be there if it isn’t then it shouldn’t. As fucking simple as thatIt has been mentioned many times by now. Come on, don't act like super fanboy :/
I didn’t say the don’t deserve it, just quoting his sense right there. This is embarrassing now
I have answered that question several times. He is the producer, he has direct or indirect control over them voting mechanism. So what? Where’s the problem exactly? He isn’t the one nominating nor voting so I don’t find an issue. Unless he goes around threatening the outlets that’s voting then that’s a different case. None of those was my game of the year in any of the respective years. None of these have any particularly strong connection to the organiser, producer and moderator of the award that I am aware of. If you can make me aware of any such strong connection, then I would agree that the respective game should not have been nominated, let alone won the VGA.So 2018 God of War didn’t deserve it
In 2017 Breath of the Wild didn’t deserve it

So you wanna convince me that if Geoff had a strong connection with Corey Barlog or Nintendo then the people would accept neither God of War nor BotW being among the nominees right? Yeah, no. He would get eaten alive and we both know that very well broNone of those was my game of the year in any of the respective years.
