PES series - "The Return of the King"

Played the PS4-version at gamescom. Best PES since PES 2011 in my opinion. Great animations, but it doesn't look like a PS4-game. It' not ugly, but I wasn't impressed graphics wise. Controls are fine.

I hope they don't mess up the versions for 360 and PS3.

Aww, that's not good enough for the comeback.

PES 2015 demo teams:
Real Madrid, Barcelona, Atlético de Madrid, Athletic Bilbao, Bayern Munich, Juventus, Napoli

Damn, PES is looking great again, really enjoyed last year on PC.

Will wait for 2016 which will hopefully bring a real PC version.

What are the licensed EPL teams?

Would also like to know, since I'm not sure how the option file import will work on PS4 and I REALLY don't wanna play as 'Merseyside Red'

It seems like we can't use custom Option Files on the PS4 and Xbox One versions.

I think only Manchester United have been confirmed so far.

PES 2013 had the best character models I've seen in a football game to date. The learning curve was high, but there wasn't as much AI bullshit that FIFA usually has. The choppy cutscenes really were a bother though. Game felt promising, but unpolished.

2014 was a travesty.

2015 looks very promising. Choppy cutscenes are out, smooth 1080p 60fps are in. Character models look really good, even better than 2013. Many people are reporting the controls are very responsive. Skill tricks are limited, even for star players (thank god) so getting past defenders actually depends on manual dribbling, good things have been said about goal keeper decision making and movement (animations are sick, decision making needs further investigation, highlight reels aren't conclusive enough) Career mode revamped (yay), ML is now MyClub (ultimate team knockoff but I'll take it)

The bullshit I experienced with FIFA 14 isn't worth going back for seconds, especially with the mediocre improvements implemented. Nonetheless, I will be grabbing the FIFA 15 demo along with the PES 15 demo and will be comparing them.

PES 15 is already on preorder though. Here's hoping that edit mode is enabled for ps4 in some capacity.

Was a definite date given for the licensing reveal? More likely than not I'm just going to end up playing Ligue 1 so it won't matter too much, but I would still like to know what leagues they've supposedly added.

And I never did get the hang of option files, learning curve was too high. I did fall in love with edit mode though.

Edit: Weedens promo vid is better than the FIFA 15 reveal trailer for a multitude of reasons, many of which are the fact that it was actual in game footage from someone actually playing the game. Bravo Weedens, Bravo.

No OFs is a big blow to the community, but it doesn't affect me personally.

Countless hours of fun were spent playing Lisbonera vs Esportiva. I even remember spending hours on one of the PS2 versions following guides on how to correclty make the Nike and Adidas symbols.

Those were the days :P

I assume Konami will include a decent Edit Mode, even if sharing OFs isn't possible.

As long as the gameplay is good and I have a decent Master League and Become a Legend modes to play with, I'm happy.

I think this game looks like Arcade crap.
FIFA has taken the throne in 2009 and the gap is wider
then ever.
Who wants to play Spain vs Brasil @Allianz?
If Konami does not spend money on licenses why would you pay them full price to play Westfalen vs. North London?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't it that Konami couldn't pay for most of the licenses even if they wanted to because EA has them on lockdown? Same reason FIFA can't put Japan in because Konami has that one locked.

This tbh.

Do you not understand how licenses work? EA basically throws money at every league in hopes of gaining exclusivity which prevents said leagues and their respective teams from showing up in their competition's game. They locked down premier league and bundesliga (aside from Bayern munchen) which are some of the most popular leagues.

Basically if your competitor blocks you out of licenses, there's only one thing you can do to compete, and that is build a better game in terms of mechanics. That's what PES tries to do every year instead of giving the consumer a slightly tweaked version of last years mechanics covered by more licenses.

You are right. Bundesliga and Premier League are EA exclusive.
Sucks for Konami, because I want to play as my team in my stadium.
Back then PES was so good that I did not care about the licence stuff.

If they need to drop licences to make the game then so be it. It's obvious that EA have created a situation to make the asking price inaccessible to other companies, fuck 'em .

The players still don't move as fluidly as I would like. The PES team more often than not get the actual faces and player models spot on but the way they move let's it down, it's still apparent to me in these videos, still a bit robotic or stiff.

Edit mode will be your friend, especially since you can edit stadiums now.

FIFA 14 had the same problem in my opinion, especially during cutscenes.
Hahaha

If this is true, PES is finished
Has everyone completely given up on edit mode? Jesus Christ if you want to put club emblems on the game just do it yourself lol I can't tell you how addictive doing that stuff was on pes 14

I couldn't say it better, I do like FIFA but after the initial surge in quality from 2010 to 2013 they are going a bit low again :/

Well that I can understand though it's all a matter on preference as far as gameplay goes.

I don't even understand how that is legal, I mean why should it be legal to have something so universal as sports licences locked down to one company by money? That smells of unfair competition :/ If I'm honest, I do want to see Konami getting all the licences just for one year to see what EA would do :P

I think it was on the community manager's Twitter.

Hopefully they will change their minds at the last minute and include it. OF is a big part of the PES series. I'm really looking foward to playing ML but not if my team is called "Merseyside Red" with just red plain tops with a fake emblem.

No option file on PS4 sucks but if the gameplay is good I don't mind too much.
I usually play in the Dutch Eredivisie anyway which should be in.

Can't wait for the demo

Unfortunately no. It's too micro to be considered a monopoly by legal standards. Also PES basically proves it's not impossible to compete in a genre that has legal restrictions in terms of content.

Since Konami will probably never get a hold of big licenses EA has they need to include an extremely robust edit feature that makes it easy to import logos and stadium/uniform edits. Something along the lines of Teambuilder that EA used in NCAAF. Then simply make a share feature for those files and boom the community doesnt need OF.

Also this game is looking much improved over last years. Goalies look better and im glad to hear that responsiveness is good as well. Can wait for the Demo to try it out.

Licenses don't matter.

In the old days PES was more popular, everyone played it, all my friends etc

Then it went to shit and FIFA improved, now my friends play that and won't even touch PES, and tbh who can blame them?

Technically speaking, does anyone even know if PS4 or X1 allow for users to go into game save file directories and add/swap out files? (For sure on ps4 that's not even an option at this point, we can't even add pics or media files like we could on ps3)

Even if the game had the option to use OFs, the system software may not have been able to support it ergo no reason to develop it.

This.
A big factor also is that on PS 1 or 2 the graphics were so bad it did not matter if BVB or Arsenal were licensed because the shirts and faces were not really detailed.
Now you can see the the missing licenses much more with HD graphics and photo realism

This is definitely what im thinking. The systems are much more closed then PS360 so OF are not possible.

It's not only the detail.
Dortmund is part of the CL, yet their constantly missing in PES even with the damn CL license...

I know it's not an easy task to fight EA over it, but it's constantly a step backwards.
Back in the day we had the fake leagues until EA filed a lawsuits, then we had the option files which are gone now...
I don't wanna waste my time on the editor and the gameplay just isn't good enough to justify it.

I still don't understand what kind of bullshit Mumbo jumbo legal voodoo EA pulled to say that PES can't have a fake German league...... How the hell is that possible when one of the most notable leagues on PES is a fake Barclays league?

But yes I completely agree with you, we need to get away from all the bells and whistles and get back to the core gameplay which is most important.

Hmm I see that's unfortunate but seems like there's nothing to be done about it :/

I do wonder what the FIFA (the actual corporation) thinks about this, wouldn't they possibly get more money out of it if they deal out something with EA and Konami together?

It's our own faults as gamers! We've all literally poured money into that cash cow for years expecting to recieve fair value while instead only recieving perceived value in the form of dlc and microtransaction. Now they can sit back, give us shit products because they hold licensing rights to our favorite teams, and occasionally give us the sausage with shit service.

Regardless I'm done with anything EA until PES 15 (or whatever # the last PES I buy may be) is dead and outdated.

Also, FIFA doesn't give a shit because all they care about is money as well. If you need proof, ask why they are condoning holding the 2022 World Cup in a slave country like Qatar where the workers barely get paid or not at all. It was an obvious bribe. Konami doesn't have boo-ku bucks like EA so making an agreement for licenses with both companies only lowers it's profit. EA could most likely out buy any bid Konami puts in.
