We will never know, only Sony know their production and shipping numbers. You can have two models and SKUs overlap in the channels.

I have never walked into a store and seen them sold out. There is no supply issue, and premium consoles don't have high demand so it's likely just your local store didn't restock

These are regions, not "local stores". But anyways, new model is incoming.
