Theyre easy as hell to get around here, if you know where to look (french though! lol)um...can you buy me a PS5? I need one for my second living room.
Exactly, a minority. I also suspect they sent returned units as well with the stock being so low

Don't forget therea just as many videos on YouTube where people have multiple units and every PS5 has Coil Whine to different extents. I just don't think we have enough data to make any solid conclusions yet.
I actually purchased a Series X in hopes of getting a quieter console for some games, but I ended up with one that made a weird humming noise from the fan motor that I could hear from a distance. That’s currently out for repair, so we’ll see what happens when I get it back. I say this only because the whole Sony vs. Microsoft argument is irrelevant, I just want my consoles to work as they should, as I’m sure everyone annoyed by coil whine here does.
Thanks! Yeah, I've been extremely unlucky with every console launch in recent memory. My launch day Switch came with a dead pixel, my launch One X started overheating and shutting down after less than 3 years (which I kind of fixed, though it's now as loud as my PS4 Pro), and now these two. Perhaps it's a sign. From what I've seen the XSX can have the same issues that the PS5 does. I've seen a video of someone with an XSX that has coil whine. However I believe it's more rare on that platform which is why your extremely unlucky to have one with issues. Hopefully it gets fixed.
Well 10% out of over 4 million can lead to a lot of people making videos about coil whine. You're right that we really don't ha any real data on how bad the issue is. With the 360 we had a confirmed failure rate for the launch systems for example.
So when was that PS5 made?
If the figure was at 10% so one in every 10 units someone would have to be incredibly unlucky to buy say 4 units (like the video posted earlier) and all 4 have coil wine, as demonstrated. Either the number is alot higher than 10% or theres significant regional variance.
I don't know about the manufacturing date this one is the same as last in that theres only 3 lines of text not 4, with no date.
Ok we finally have it a pretty much silent PS5.
Excuse my language but I deserve this after 5 PS5's.... THANK FUCK
Silent in everything. You can *just* to say hear it's on in 60fps Spiderman on mute if you really, really listen for it.
I made sure to do all my tests before this post so I didn't come back with issues.
November the 19th I ordered my PS5 and now I can finally enjoy it. Too little data to read much into it but this is an all digital and only the second PS5 not direct from Sony "repair" centre.
First three had coil whine, fourth had an annoying fan profile, it was the type B fan (noise even in PS4 games where the other 3 with coil whine didn't).
Anyways this one from Amazon via ebay sold 21st January is spot on. Theres always a chance they have already made a stealth revision. If your not happy with your PS5 noise there is definitely hope. One big take away from this no one can deny is there is massive variance between units so if things like this bother you be forewarned... your in for a journey.
There's been no revision man, Sony were sending you other peoples PS5's that had been sent back with issues as refurbs.
There's not enough stock around for people to get new units in those kinds of situations so you just get put on the merry go round.
Yeah, it must be really nice! Your patience paid off.It feels sooooo good playing on a silent PS5. If you got one straight from launch I bet it's hard to appreciate what you've got
Yeah, it must be really nice! Your patience paid off.
I don't want to install a "quiet" game on my PS5 because I know I'll be hearing the fan when playing the game :-(
I'm a Resident Evil fan but at the moment Resident Evil 8 is a no-go with my PS5 because of the noise, that game is the worst. If I had a silent PS5 I would really look forward to RE8.
I'd wait to the Series X is available as it's not much more relatively speaking and so much power (and better performance on emulation). But I can 100% attest to it been completely silent apart from a very mild noise if a disc is inserted/spinning.Hopefully fan doesn't play up after a few days like one of mine and one of yr previous sony replacement ones , mine is still showing they have it and ill found out 4/5 days so considering once they say sent it back next day i think mine should be tue gettin it back, although seen a xbox series s available and not had a xbox since 360 and my pc now in storage tempted to buy one since they apparently silent and there odd old game like ssx3 i can play through it etc
Yeah prob will, just wish the ps4/ps5 had ps2 emulation so could get to play ssx tricky , ssx3 and burnout , timesplitters etc againI'd wait to the Series X is available as it's not much more relatively speaking and so much power (and better performance on emulation). But I can 100% attest to it been completely silent apart from a very mild noise if a disc is inserted/spinning.
I feel you my friendand then... i still can't buy even a single PS5 in germany...
Could the OP be mostly responsible for the PS5 shortages?
I mean, if this one isn’t to your satisfaction you could return it to wherever you purchased and get your money back and try to source from another retailer. You’re looking at a turnaround time for a replacement anyway. Just press the reset button.
Could the OP be mostly responsible for the PS5 shortages?
Then he took my advice. And never a word of gratitude...For the most part I think they gave him PS5s that were turned in due to coil whine.
#Free HostileSony silenced him
So is the OP banned?
No point sending them to sony, they dont have fixed psus yet, they are sending back other peoples returns lol, we just have keep emailing them and when they enough stock, keep returning them to stores as faulty, so sony start taking notice, funny thing is its such easy fix, for them, so i expect it to be fixed in the next revision, we just don't know when that will be.My third replacement has come, and im just giving up on sending it back now, as this one yet again from sony repair has coil whine when playing games but not as loud as my first system, fan a lot lessy noiser when on home screen or in rest mode, but when fan spins up when you start a game its louder then last two units i had, when checked its a nidec fan where first ones i had had the delta fans (supposedly the quieter of the two),not tried a disc yet, so for the moment since just gonna use the ps5 headphones when gaming, then later in the yr or if it bothers me ill give the console to one of family and buy a new one if there proof of a update or sony changed out for the better instead of lottery there seems to be
For me coil whine is there with this one but livable , the fan is annoying, if replacement fans become available online like parts for other consoles have then id be tempted to swap out the fan myself, its just a joke that my ps4 pro is silent compared to the ps5 even though sony made out the trouble and size the ps5 become to keep it quiet, i dont think sony will admit or fix the problems as people conplained of noisey ps4 slim and pro , kinda wish it was Microsoft hardware with sony softwareNo point sending them to sony, they dont have fixed psus yet, they are sending back other peoples returns lol, we just have keep emailing them and when they enough stock, keep returning them to stores as faulty, so sony start taking notice, funny thing is its such easy fix, for them, so i expect it to be fixed in the next revision, we just don't know when that will be.
His Coil Whine issue was actually a facade, he was actually a scalper and managed to successfully sell 5 scalped consoles via GAF, so he got banned. So is the OP banned?
If u get one of the quiet ones out there then it wont be distracting as my ps4 pro i could have on a desk within a few feet from me and it wouldnt bother me, but all the three ps5’s ive had i couldnt have on a desk next to me, my pc was set up on a desk with pc in corsair case with five corsair fans in and i dint mind gaming on that as there was not note to the fan noise, yet my first ps5 was over ten foot away in siting room and annoyed me cause of the oscillating noise coming from itIs this issue really that bad? I'll be looking to get a ps5 when some games hit the platform I can't miss out on. The concern I have is that I play on a monitor with the console sitting next to it. Will the noise from the machine be distracting?
Get it replaced, most ps5 fans are quiet, but u risk getting a ps5 with bad coil whine, so its up to u, depends just how load the fan is.For me coil whine is there with this one but livable , the fan is annoying, if replacement fans become available online like parts for other consoles have then id be tempted to swap out the fan myself, its just a joke that my ps4 pro is silent compared to the ps5 even though sony made out the trouble and size the ps5 become to keep it quiet, i dont think sony will admit or fix the problems as people conplained of noisey ps4 slim and pro , kinda wish it was Microsoft hardware with sony software
It varies from person to person and console to console. My first PS5 was uber irritating with its constant buzzing when playing PS5 games. You could hear the pitch rise and fall as I went through the menus. The replacement also buzzes but since the fan was louder it wasn't as bad. Seeing the number of people commenting on the noise it is not an isolated issue but you may not notice it much. By the time you get one Sony may have addressed it. There are solutions other companies employed that handles it perfectly. Is this issue really that bad? I'll be looking to get a ps5 when some games hit the platform I can't miss out on. The concern I have is that I play on a monitor with the console sitting next to it. Will the noise from the machine be distracting?
The fan is the loudest out of all the ps5s ive had but considering it took sony nearly 4weeks from sending to receiving back this replacment, i just want to play some games on it rather then wait another 4 weeks at the min, especially when i think sony just packing them up and resending to someone else as ive had three that none have been silent from 6-10foot away , if it gets a lot louder then will get it replaced, but considering i got the ps5 on launch and only played about a week or two on the rest of the time they been sony for repair/replaceGet it replaced, most ps5 fans are quiet, but u risk getting a ps5 with bad coil whine, so its up to u, depends just how load the fan is.
Try this,There are two sounds coming from my PS5. The coil whine is very subtle and not really an issue. The fan however, it causes vibrations on the PS5 Chassis. The fan is silent when outside the PS5, but when you screw it in, the noises appear. I tried to isolate it with rubber but only a fair improvement.
So yes, there are issues with the Fan once screwed in the chassis, even with rubber orings.
