RTX 4090 review thread

$300 for a 3090 is a fantastic deal, right? My friend is offering to sell me his after he upgrades to the 4090. I'd be coming from a 970.

Your friend must cherish his friendship with you to be offering a deal like that. When my 4090 arrives on Tuesday, I won't sell my 3090 for less than $800.

I'm assuming once the next gen AMD cards come out then this will be easier to get

Wouldn't count on it, AMD are most likely to be competing with the 4080 16G, not the 4090. There were rumors just last week from a source with a good track record corroborating that. Everyone who typically buys a card in the top 20% of the performance stack (of which there are several million as it usually includes the XX80 series), will be forced to either buy one of these or wait for the 4080Ti or 4090Ti. These cards will covert large swathes of the upper mid range and lower end enthusiast markets to Titan class enthusiasts by necessity. They'll own the entire generation, and may well not even be matched by the 5080. 4090 holds a legitimate 2x performance advantage over the 4080 16G in some titles.

I have to ask, anyone here got his order of 4090 FE especially from Best Buy shipped ?

Here in Canada I didn't get anything and it still says in progress. Anyone else is the same

Yeah bud that's not gonna happen. People struggling to sell their 3090 kingpin for 1100 CAD. But, good luck with that.

I bought an evga FTW3 3080 mint condition with its stickers on for 530$ CAD just to hold me till I get my 4090 FE as I can't live without a pc at home. I figured I can still sell it for 500$ easily when I get my 4090.

I've got the Aorus Master with the LCD screen. Original packaging. I think I can pull it off

The width is a surprising problem, and the differences are wild, nearly 3cm from the smallest (FE) to the biggest (Zotac).
Can't they place the power connector so it stand out from the fan side pointing downwards? Guessing it's just empty space there for 99% of all people.

What I don't get about this is why does it say width and not girth?

It would have been good if they made these converters like a 90 degree single plastic adapter, maybe it's not possible but it would have made things easier and not screwed up custom cables and cable management as badly.

I was told this would be easy to get, yet despite having one in my basket at 1 second after orders went live, I couldn't complete the transaction.
It was easier to get, depending on the country you live in, unless you went for a MSRP one or a FE.

They will be wide available within a few weeks. This has happened for every graphics card ever before crypto.

Yeah - I'm counting on that. I've normally managed to secure on launch day in the past though

Maybe team Red will suck some of the enthusiasm out of the market and I can take advantage

Great, show me a PC exclusive developed game that does things current consoles won't be capable of doing until PS6, and I might consider getting one....but I'm not spending that kind of money to play hand-me-down console ports whose only USP is running at higher resolutions/framerates.
PC has way more exclusive games than console. Star Citizen (although clearly a joke at the moment) will have a tough time running on consoles if they even decide to port it.

My only fear is that the MSRP will be limited to FE only after the initial launch, but there's no way in hell they sold all the cards they could manufacture.
Expect restocks as soon as this week.

I personally I will get one at MSRP, otherwise I'm more than happy to wait. They will eventually go down in price once they sell through the 30XX stock.

People in america bought some new 3090ti for less than 800 dollars, good luck with that price for a used inferior card.

Good to know but I certainly wouldn't buy any of them, or anything else, from those price gouging cunts at Overclockers.
And I wouldn't take any notice of that list either. They've measured the length of the card but they have taken into account the width of the card with the attached power cable. Depending on what card, some of those cases won't be able to have their side panels placed back on, like the smaller Lian-Li mid towers etc.

Show me a single, PC exclusive game being developed right now with the same budget, resources and talent behind it along the lines of Ratchet, GoW, Horizon, Spider-Man or any other of half a dozen PS5/Xbox titles you care to name currently being worked on, pushing the graphical boundaries in the same way as Doom 3 or Crysis did, back when PC games were the proving ground for graphics tech and not possible on consoles, until one or two generations in the future.

There isn't a single game today being developed exclusively for PC that will in any way make full use of a 3090, never mind a 4090, and make PS5 Xbox owners wish they were PC gamers.

And just upping the resolution & framerates on console ports, until it buckles, is not the same thing at all.

Star Citizen. It's budget is way more than any other game and it is doing things other games just aren't doing. Yes, it has been in development forever and it seems like a scam, but that's not the question you're asking.

Full space exploration with planetary landing including intercity travel, fully realised first person shooter system implemented too. That's without the whole spaceship management side of things.

There isn't any other game on that scale in development for consoles and I imagine that it will require an absolute monster of a PC to run well.

Also, your opinion of Star Citizen is just that. It's still a downloadable playable title in development with a huge budget.

Star Citizen.

Lol..you're still using Star Citizen to make your case, go throw some more money at Mr.Roberts instead of throwing this kind of shit out on here.

However much you've thrown down the toilet on SC, It obviously still isn't enough to make you see sense, but keep going, It will one day.

We're done here

You do realize that GoW and Spider-Man are already on PC, and they are by far, the most advanced versions.
The RT in Spider-man on consoles is a blocky thing. Only on PC can we have decent RT with good performance.
And the best upscaler on the market is on the PC with DLSS 2.4. PS5 games don't even have FSR 2.1

There are already games that make good use of the 4090 with RT.
Even with DLSS 2.x Quality, they can't reach 144 fps.

Oh FFS, its like talking to brick fucking walls in here..

Is your point that better graphics cards don't magically make the impossible possible? Honest question, I just don't quite get what point you're trying to make, I don't think anyone here is arguing otherwise. Top-end GPUs are purely performance boosters and always have been have been since the 90s.

Why? Because people managed to present you with arguments to contradict your non-sense?

Didi you not see the part about just upping resolutions and framerates on console ports, It is not the same as pushing new graphics technology, You know, like PC games used to do.

Right now its a 4090s destiny to do nothing more adventurous than playing PS5 games at 8K/60fps.

If that floats your boat, fine.

Me?...Spending $2000 to do that is not a sensible way to go.

Like there isn't a world of difference between a checker board sub 30fps with minimal raytracing 4k console experience vs what a 4090 will get ya…

I mean just eat McDonald's hamburger, why have a dry aged ribeye they both fucking beef…

What does it matter? Most games release on multiple platforms, and when they do the PC version is the best version.

yeah, playing games at 8k/60 with settings maxed out is a much better experience than playing games at 4k/30 with settings set to low/medium. What's the problem?

These 4090 cards have certainly rattled the cages of a lot of people on the internet. I've never seen such a large bunch of people hellbent on announcing they're not buying something. You don't want to spend 2k on a GPU. Ok. So what?

RT, DLSS, FSR 2.0, XeSS are some of the most advanced techs today.
PC is leading, by a huge margin on all of them.

The only tech consoles are leading is in SSD accesses.

Maybe for the US market, I'm in Europe and when people ask me what I've paid for 4090 I suggest them to have a seat before I tell them the number.
Just don't talk about it, or the total cost for the whole computer. I've gone way past any figure I'm comfortable with on this new PC, but I've payed more for guitars and it's just a hobby too so it all depends what you're comparing it to.

you're right. But to some paying for graphics card over 2k euros is mind blowing, even though hobbies like fishing, hunting or auto/moto sports cost much more.

Not sure if rationalizing numbers brought upon you by corporate greed is a smart move as a customer.

I could rationalize buying a 4090 by comparing it to the hardware costs of my CNC hobby easily...but I´d be a moron to do so just to keep NVIDIA`s mining era-margins intact....

It´s not about total cost it`s about the "bang for buck" ratio. GPUs have officially entered fashion-levels of madness with this new pricing strategy.

I spend the exact right amount for my stuff
If you spend more than me then you're a moron being ripped off
If you spend less than me than you're buying shit

« Our mini-PC, oops I mean consoles, are creating new graphics, PC just up-res them! »

How can you fucking say that when literally all effects are made by PC GPU manufacturers and here's Nvidia… dragging the fucking industry and APIs by the fucking heel to have RT and AI scaling? You wouldn't even have RT if it wasn't for the work Nvidia did in 2017 even though consoles are mostly stuck at 1:4 reflection resolution and huge cuts to the environment, RT shadows (almost useless) and barely any RTGI worth a damn so far.

Only Sony-sama is creating « new » graphics from these PC component pipelines.. the audacity

It's a good argument. As much as I dislike the way the game has been handled, it's doing things that I'm not sure the current gen could handle without cutbacks.

I don't get how your reply correlates with your initial argument, you just sound bitter that someone found a game to argue your case. No need to be that way, just accept it and move on like a reasonable person.

And yes, I am done here.

yeah bleeding edge tech for sure but for what? to run games designed for PS5/X1 at higher rez and fps... forgive me but sinking near £2k for a card that simply runs games faster and cleaner is insane in my book, but whatever floats yer boat.. show me your NDog level Devs pushing a 4090 and i may bite, Star Citizen looks good but lets face it, by the time it comes out you'll need a 6090 to run it

Are you implying that games running on consoles are shit and not worth playing with better graphics and at higher frame rates?

No, he's saying the 4090 is capable of so much more that will never see the light of day because there are no PC developers with the will/resources to do it anymore.

I agree. Gaming is being held back by consoles and people with low end PC's.
People on low end PC hardware aren't a problem. Id software was pretty great at making their games scale very well across a wide range of configurations (Quake 3 fi). Also, on the PC side of things, it's neither uncommon nor frowned upon to just leave certain hardware behind when it comes to compatibility. Consoles on the other hand are different, because platform holders and consumers expect a certain minimum visual quality for every single title released in the AAA space.

I see Raytraced Global Illumination is not considered pushing graphical boundaries that consoles are unlikely to match this generation?

I wouldn't buy the 4090, as it's way beyond my budget.
But for some people, it's the best there is for gaming. The highest quality settings, the highest frame rate and the best tech in the market.
Currently, nothing comes close to it.
