The maintenance effect

Adding a non-Steam game doesn't do much more than making a shortcut so I'd imagine it's unlikely to interfere with anything. I've heard tales of people adding Starcraft 2 and chatting with Steam friends while on B.net.

General Steam question. Are there any PC games that you can't add to Steam as a non-steam game because of proprietary launchers? I'm talking about digital download games from sellers like Impulse, Origin, Gamersgate, Green Man Gaming, etc.

If it has an .exe you can launch it from Steam. Whether or not the overlay will work is an entirely different story though. But it doesn' even work with all games on Steam so that is not surprising.

I wonder what would happen if you tried to add a pirated Valve game to Steam.

You mean as a non-steam game? I would assume nothing because you're just adding a shortcut. I have cracked a few of my Steamworks games though and whenever I do I make sure Steam isn't running just in case though...

I've ignored this up until now but I've noticed people linking steam ID's like "http://steamcommunity.com/id/NAME"
I'm having a really hard time finding out how I set my account up to link my profile like that. Google is not helping me here at all.

Mine doesn't do it either. I think it only works if your Steam name is letters and numbers with no spaces or anything, since mine is Jim-Jam Bongs.

I could never ever add Battlefield Bad Company 2 to Steam. I tried adding the .exe directly, and different shortcuts but nothing worked for me. =/ Well, it added the game, but it could never launch.

I also use the big view, so adding shortcuts looks terrible. The thing I like is that you can rename your shortcuts whatever so I trolled a bunch of friends by playing the 'Diablo 3 Beta'.

If you go to the Community tab, and edit your profile, there is a field for a custom URL.

It's just on 'Edit my Profile'.

Yeah, I meant as a non-Steam game, because although it's just a shortcut, they could presumably note the name of the .exe to see which game it is.

If anyone still has space i'd like to be part of a section 8, 4 pack.

if there are any active 4-packs for Section 8 then count me in

I'm in too. If no one else steps up I could probably host it as well, but I'm in Canada so it might mean extra fees for the buyers? I can't recall if there was an additional percentage added, or if the fees I've paid for previous group buys have been solely for drawing funds from a credit card. (Math! Worst case it's an extra 83 cents US paying with a card and hit with a cross-border fee, same percentage for both)

edit: back!

Is Prototype any good? It looks like a spiky, modern-day Assassin's Creed
It's nothing like AC.

It's more like infamous (infamous is more like it to be precise) (or spider man as the person above said) but with way more crazy superpowers.
It's also considerably much more challenging, and with much better combat (tons of combos and moves).

Graphics are kind of 2007, but you get used to it pretty fast, it has fun gameplay though.

Section 8 : P is a steal at 4 euros btw.
Mixed feelings about it though, on one hand it's one of the best shooters this gen (not that that is saying much), on the other hand similar games like the tribes reboot (which should be superior) and bf3 (think of s8 : p as a mix between halo, battlefield and tribes) are right around the corner.
It also uses windows live, and sinned by releasing multiplayer map packs.

On the other hand they released at 15 dollars, so that deserves some good will too.

Tip: play with friends or on a gaf server or you are going to get violated hard by max level players. (this info is based on my 40+ hours playing the beta)

It reminded me a lot of the Spider-man 3 game. Except I thought Prototype's version of New York City was even worse. I wouldn't recommend the game to anyone.

Prototype is the most ridiculous open-world game I can think of. If being able to do way over-the-top shit in the most nihilistically non-judgemental way possible appeals to you, just pick it up. No other game leaves you as uninhibited and powerful than Prototype eventually does.

The gameplay is a bit of a let-down, but not too much. It still plays better than Infamous and is generally a lot more fun. The game gives you the tools to go apeshit across an entire city, completely fucking up everything in your path with abandon.

Hell, getting away with things basically involves absorbing, and then becoming, old ladies while the enemies aren't looking.

I didn't play Prototype for long,, but it seemed worth a few hours of mindless fun if you're into wrecking havok and massacring civilians in sandbox game. You can kill people in some gnarly ways.

It did traversal in an open world game well, you could scale, leap and glide across the city very fast instead of slowly plodding along like a chump. Also, I liked picking up civilians and throwing them at helicopters.

I hated everything else about it, though.

just cause 2

think harder
I did think of Just Cause 2. Unmodded Prototype is way more ridiculous. Even with mods, Prototype is probably more ridiculous. You have to get some of the more intense mods to get to Prototype's level.

Talking gameplay though. Mission-wise, Just Cause 2 is more ridiculous. But in Just Cause 2 you can't run down a street absorb and become an old lady, and then toss a car at a helicopter.

...

And then run up a building and dropkick said helicopter.

And then turn your fist into a massive boulder-type thing and slam into a tank on your way down.

Can anyone gift me Bastion? Damn game still not available in my country and even buying using a VPN doesn't work. I can transfer the US$ 15 by PayPal. Thanks...

Is Front Mission any good. Serious question.

Front Mission is absolutely awful. Terrible in every respect, regardless of it trying to be a Front Mission or not.

Imagine Slave Zero but really, really shitty.

If you didn't do it yet, can you let me do it? Trackmania was refusing my credit card earlier because it was a foreign transaction and fraud protection was kicking in. I already have 12 bucks in my paypal account, so another 15 dollars would let me fund it from my paypal balance.

Thanks 1-D, thought unfortunately already did it.

Fuck. How the FUCK did squareenix fuck up Front Mission. I swear to god they had everything going for them this generation and just vomited all over their potential.

I don't mean everything they made. But they have wasted so much potential. I am hoping FFXIII-2 returns some of the square I personally remember. But I guess you know what they say about opinions...
