Yeah, I heard from a friend of a friend's hairdresser's cousin that RDR was getting a PC port. You should totally save those points.

With LA Noire coming I can see Red Dead getting a PC release.

Now if only Double Fine would stop messing around and release their stuff on PC. :-(
You guys are just fucking with me, aren't ya? :D

I hope not

But you got them abusing promotions, which I sadly never managed to do. Mine are actual money I put there...

I might just buy Red Dead Redemption with them points, now that you can (could?) buy Games on Demand with points. It's not like it's ever coming out on PC anyway... sigh...
Yeah, when is the next promo I can abuse? My XBL runs out at the end of this year and I'm down to 6k myself after having 20k+.

Rough times ahead.

From today:

Olson also mentioned that a PC release is "to be determined at this point" with publisher Microsoft.

No one here is saying that there won't be a PC version ;)

There has been some talk, but nothing major.

Microsoft publishing??

whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat

You sound surprised. MS typically publish the more prominent XBLA games, such as Braid and Limbo (both of which came to the PC).

Has there ever been any word from Valve regarding the client utilizing multiple drives? I know you can make "virtual links" (which don't work for some games, and make uninstallation a bit dodgy on others), as well as installing the client on another partition/drive and having that client only show games on that particular partition/drive.

However, I really want to be able to just specify where each title should be installed and use one single client. I'm not the only one, I've been hearing requests for this for years.

I have 2 Terabyte drives, and almost exclusively use Steam for all my games. One of my drives is has hit capacity several times (games are huge these days), and I've just been juggling uninstalling some games to make room. I have the space, I want to just utilize my second drive hassle-free.

It really can't be that hard of a problem for them to solve. It may take a bit of UI work to make it very friendly on a per-game basis (when clicking "download", it could ask you where to put it). Or, do as Impulse does, and just have a config option that points to where you want the games installed.

But they weren't published on PC by MS. MS just had the publishing rights for the 360 versions, if it's MS's decision to bring a game to PC, more often than not they don't.

Do you have any examples of games with problems with junctions or symlinks? I have a pretty complicated setup -- Steam on an SSD, with steamapps being a junction on a regular HDD so most of my games are on it, except TF2 which I have on the SSD (using symlinks and a junction). I haven't had any problems with it yet.

but Limbo was published by Playdead on PC and Braid by Number None afaik (at least digitally). Both of them being the developers of the games as well.

MS requires a publisher on XBLA. They normally take up indies titles for exclusivity, in exchange for a larger cut, advertising, etc.

After a certain amount of time, they are allowed to push it on PC. And in some cases, PS3. But creators need to find their own publishers then. MS only publishes it for their own system.

Yeah, my bad. I, for some reason, attributed Microsoft as publisher only to the XBLA version (it's 2:30AM blah blah blah :p). Chances are that if the ball is indeed in MS's court we'll see a similar scenario to that of Alan Wake: "A PC version is a possibility," to be followed by, "Well, to be fair, we never promised a PC version".

I knew that, but i thought JaseC was being specific about PC

I've heard that all the Valve games won't function correctly with a junction. Also, if you junction a game and have the Steam client "remove local data", it gets problematic on some games if you then re-download them.

I've had zero trouble with TF2, and I just tried out HL2 -- that worked fine as well.

In theory junctions should be transparent, so I'm not sure why that would happen..

Sooooo, is Morrowind still worth playing? I know that sounds kind of insolent, but we're talking about putting 60+ hours into a game that's almost 10 years old. Is there some kind of "complete" Mod? Does it support widescreen? I'm really tempted, but I'm not going to buy it if I'll have to put hours of modding into it before I actually get to play the game.

Morrowind 2011

Man I was waiting for a good deal for Oblivion, but 14.99EUR for everything is kinda meh, esp. when Fallout 3 GotY will be 7.50EUR.

I already finished Morrowind. Great game, but I don't think I will replay it. I tried Oblivion and got bored big time.

Sell me on this Call of Cthulu. What's it most comparable to, how is the combat, just how scary does it get, etc. I'm intrigued.
It's comparable to Amnesia. It has no HUD. For quite a long a time you don't have a weapon. As your character gets wounded, he starts to limp, there's blood on the screen etc. Healing him takes place in real time, during which you are vulnerable. When you see scary things, your vision starts to blur, you hear voices, and in really bad cases your character goes insane and kills himself.

The combat is good enough. Weapons feel like they have weight, you have to aim down the sights of course. But this game isn't about the shooting, of which there's little.

I think the atmosphere in this is stellar. It's probably not as scary as Amnesia, but the game is more epic. You see some HUGE creatures. Overall, it's quite an odyssey I'd say.

They have a chase scene early in the game that put my hair on edge though. I've been waiting for a decent sale on it.
Never has a game made me feel more tense than this chase sequence. It's breathtaking, literally.

If anybody was curious enough about the game to read this far and PROMISES to actually play it within 7 days, they can tell me their Steam user name. I shall give away one copy of Call of Cthulhu.

Speaking of XBLA ports, whatever happened to the Toy Soldiers PC port? Seemed weird to port the original with the sequel coming out.

Thanks amdnv.

Steam name is PetriesLastWord, I'm definitely interested enough to give it a go.

i just read that torchlight 1 and 2 PC won't have controller support. this really saddens me, especially since i don't have a 360 anymore since my original died and i dont' want to replace it so late in this generation. :(

They will never have support for the inferior control method. It really is a shame.

Dammit. That was my one hope to get into Torchlight 2. The first game controlled so much better on Xbox (but I already had the PC one).

Man, so I bought the Oblivion / Morrowind set. I've played them before but wanted to play them with mods. Even with the awesome threads on GAF, modding these games feels like fucking work. Sucks.

Pretty sure you can download the toolset directly from the official Elder Scrolls website.

Ah, cool. Might give it a try.

I've only just started Morrowind for the first time and already it feels more interesting and adventurous than Oblivion. Great music too.

That actually sounds a lot better than what I've heard from others, before. I'm intrigued. Since people already have eh, volunteered to play it, I'll just say thank you for the input and put that on my wishlist for a later date.

I'm one game shy from a pre-order strike!
Just need Saint's Row 3. All the rest are paid for!
Nice to have the feeling that every month will hold some gift .. although this month it's three.

Deus Ex, Bastion, SPAZ and From Dust!
OK I lie, four this month!

In fact! If Skyrim gets some insane retail version, Imma double dip!
Thats right, I'm straight up Beth's bitch! Shower me Todd! Yay!

Bah ok not so much a Beth Bitch .. $149?! .. no Todd, I am not eating it!

So my Fallout New Vegas stutters like nobody's business whenever my character walks. Framerate bouncing around from 15-45 randomly. When I jump the problem goes away, but whenever I walk on the ground it starts up again. I've tried lowering every setting, various .ini 'iFPS=60' tweaks, and the Fallout New Vegas Stutter Remover, all without result. Verifying my Game cache didn't do anything either. I was able to run Oblivion and Fallout 3 just fine, so this is extra strange. Most of the fixes out there are for minor framerate ticks, not this jerky movement.

Any ideas, or should I just jump my way through this 100+ hour game?

Welp after the John Carmack Keynote and the new Rage trailer I had to bite.
2lloxp3.jpg

I'm rationalizing the 15bucks off the preorder so Rage is 45 and the Quakecon pack is still 69 just to make myself feel better after I swore off 60$ Digital Preorders. HEHE!

Seems fitting Wolf3d shareware running on a 286 is what convinced me to buy a computer, might as well have all of it on my steamaccount
