So what's the good word on Gyromancer, if there is one? I'm away and won't be able to check out the demo at all.

I'm a big fan of Puzzle RPG hybrids (I made a gaf topic about them once), and I didn't much care for Gyromancer.

It's not a daily deal really. They threw it up there to promote the sniper hat.

Oh, so what is the daily deal? Because it says "a different deal each day" up top, but Brink's been 50% off all weekend.

It was The Doom & Quake bundle the first day, The Elderscrolls bundle yesterday, today the deal is Brink.

So from 25 to 250 hours, seems like your mileage my vary.

Haha, to be fair I play the Fallout: Wanderer's Edition. Fast travel is only available if you repair and refuel your motorbike or pay a caravan to take you somewhere, so a lot of that time is spent playing Bear Grylls out in the wastes.

So am I really going to have to preorder RAGE (and maybe Skyrim) now in order to get the TF2 items? Why does it have to be before 8th?

Hey, I'm desperately trying to get Quake 3 working on my Windows 7.

I've tried using radeon pro to turn off crossfire, compability mode with all possible options. And combining these in different ways.

It's still not playable. Everything flickers and when I move the mouse everything around the pointer starts to flicker.

Please help?

So the Quakecon deal is the announcement of Brink @ 50% off? Woo... I can get it for $45USD! Even if I *was* interested that's still a ripoff. Thank you, Australian Steam "conversion rate".

All this Fallout 3 talk put me in the mood for that to be my next play. And unlike a couple recent titles that I aborted after about 1 hour, I think I've got a keeper. So far, so good. And no framerate hiccups so far.

I beat New Vegas yesterday, and the next game in my backlog I'm going to play is Kings Bounty: Legend.

Any advice before I get started?

If it's your first time? Play as either Warrior or Mage (Paladin is relatively underpowered), and go for a "no loss" challenge.

A big part of the game is managing your troops, and when they die you often have to spend a lot of gold to replace them: this part is really frustrating for most people, and gold isn't exactly abundant starting out. The "no loss" challenge is to get through each battle without any troops dying (and not being resurrected before the battle ends). It's hard, but perfect for beginners:

a) You save a lot of gold and get over the "goddammit I need to buy more archers" frustration that plagues most new players.
b) It forces you to approach each battle strategically and actually learn the game.

Another bit of advice is to avoid fights for as long as possible, and spend your early time exploring, collecting treasures and charts and stuff that are lying around. If there's a chest that's guarded by an enemy, you can aggro them and kite them away, then circle around and loot the chest before they catch you. Do this to build up your bank before you start fighting stuff.

Also, get the rage chest as soon as possible. It's the reward for the third mission (I think?).

You might prefer to start with Armored Princess, which is better-balanced and slightly friendlier to newbies, but the beginning of AP kinda spoils the end of the Legend
you save the world
. In either case, the 1c forums are invaluable for guidance.

Wasn't it the case for King's Bounty : Legend (perhaps all of those games) that you have a limited number of almost every unit? So if you lose too many archers, you can literally never replace them?

I seem to recall that early on in King's Bounty you were given some super weak units, and it seemed almost impossible to keep them alive. I might restart some time.

Yeah it's my first time. Thanks for the advice.

Yes-ish, but there are ways around it. I am new to the King's Bounty series myself (only started after the Steam Summer Sale) and went straight to AP after running out of gold in The Legend, but what I've noticed is that the shops do have limits (like, 3 archmages) but sometimes there are multiple places to recruit (like, you can find archers all over the place).

There's also the lovely Sacrifice spell, that kills off some of your units to restore units of another type. For instance, if you have 30/30 archers and 3/10 archmages, Sacrifice like 15 archers to get 2 new permanent archmages. Then resurrect the archers. In AP at least, one trick is to use two stacks of Repair Droids to keep resurrecting each other while you Sacrifice them away to build up your high value troops.

When you're able, you might also want to get away from high quantity troops and instead focus on having smaller troops of high quality units, like paladins, dragons, and bears. Bigger units live longer, so resurrection is less of a concern.

It took me a few restarts before I really got the hang of the game, and I'm now pretty confidently working through Impossible difficulty as a Mage in AP and doing better than all of my Medium difficulty attempts before. Now that I know what I'm doing, King's Bounty is one of my favorite series.

Just watched the new "Uprising" trailer for RAGE. WOW! If there is a Fallout deal tomorrow, I'm buying that and pre-ordering RAGE for maximum wallet damage.

Origin is the fucking pits, man. I went on there to try to activate Spore so I could buy the creature parts kit and couldn't activate it. So, I tried the other games from EA I have to see if I could get those on there and some worked and then Dragon Age: Origin gave me the option to pick a version but then error'ed out. So I contacted support and he said Spore wouldn't work but I could get the parts kit and it would work without having it on Origin. Fine. So I asked about DA:O and he said activations are down but try it later this week. Ok. So I went to purchase the games and the paypal bubble greyed out. I asked him are paypal purchases working? Nope!

Does anything work on this motherfucker?

I tried to play Fallout 3 GoTY the other week but the opening act is so bloody boring I lost the motivation to continue.

Anyone know if you buy Red Orchestra 2 as a gift, you still the discount price? I didn't buy the original, but I sure would like the discount.

It seems to work. I'll buy it for you if you want.

So I messed with Onlive yesterday and the spectating feature is amazing. I'd love to see something like that come to Steam. Also, when in the world are they going to release/reveal big tv mode? It's been like half a year since they announced it.
This! I really want the couch mode.

Would also love to get Red Orchestra 2 Deluxe Edition for discounted price from the US. The European price is way higher. Tried asking for it in the gifting thread earlier this week, but got no response. Will paypal immediately.

edit (00.40 PDT): off to work soon, but I'll be back when it's morning/daytime in the US. Feel free to add me while I'm gone.

Oh, I'm well aware the meat of the game is quite good, but it's just unfortunate the opening of the game is so dull.

Hate to break it to you, but it's the first 10 hours that suck.

Does anyone know if you can activate the keys from Origin titles on Steam? I want to grab one of the battlefield games thats $5, but I'd like to be able to simply use it with Steam. Possible?

Also would you get BattleField 2 complete or Battlefield Bad Company 2?

No. :-(

No.

Thanks! No Battlefield for me then, I'll find something else to play. Just hankering for a more realistic style shooter (not TF2, MNC, etc) and can't get a Day of Defeat Server.

Ugh, Brink has the ugliest character art ever, it makes me vomit.

The game might be interesting to try out but the ugly faces are really offputting.

Red Orchestra is coming soon.

Disable the community overlay for Steam and start Q3. Disable GL extensions in the system settings and quit Q3. Enable the community overlay and you should be good to go.

I think it gets good before that, I'd say the first bit I really enjoyed was going thru the kiddie secret caverns.

There's no doubt it's a slow burn initially, and the combat is horrible, and the inventory stuff is lame, but there's a lot of redeeming qualities in just the world it presents and the interactions you can have with people.

I think it's biggest issue is there's no real ending now. After you put that amount of time into a game I think you naturally want a final act, and it doesn't have it.

So I need to get Skyrim and RAGE on preorder from the US as in Australia its 89 each >.>.

Big question is also will I get the preorder items from each of those purchases if I am gifted them?
