15.5 hours for a first-time play-through is criminally low. That's barely twice as long as your average shooter.

Well here are the links:gdt5016 said:Any more info? Impressions?
Actually by my calculations that is about 3 times the length of your average shooter. Based on what I have played so far of Dungeon Siege 3 (I'm 7.5 hours in in co-op), I would be content with being at the half-way point. I don't need or want every RPG to be 30-80 hours.JaseC said:15.5 hours for a first-time play-through is criminally low. That's barely twice as long as your average shooter.
The Lamonster said:So I am about to beat KOTOR (beat it back in the day too) and want more. KOTOR 2 isn't on Steam and I've already played the shit out of the Mass Effect series. I need more PC WRPG goodness though.
Where should I go next, GAF?
OG Dragon Age, Vampire Bloodlines, Fallout 3/New Vegas, Elder Scrolls. The Lamonster said:Where should I go next, GAF?
been there, done that, but I will definitely check out the Witcher and Vampire Bloodlines. I played some of DA 2 and it was sickening. But maybe I'll give the original a chance someday.Stallion Free said:OG Dragon Age, Vampire Bloodlines, Fallout 3/New Vegas, Elder Scrolls.
Don't start quacking and flapping like crazy when I ask this, but does The Witcher support controller?Chinner said:witcher?

I don't think so, but I found this post for you:LovelyDave said:Don't start quacking and flapping like crazy when I ask this, but does The Witcher support controller?
I have the Enhanced Edition but haven't started it yet because I can't find a comfy KB&M setup. To be honest, I can't really be arsed to find a comfy setup, I prefer using my PC as a sort of 'Super-Console' with pad control wherever possible.
I know it's been nearly 3 years since this thread has been created but seeing as how it's the first google result for "Witcher gamepad" I thought I'd share my solution.
First, download XPadder:
http://www.xpadder.com/
Then, go through the controller settings and set up your gamepad. You can also download a controller image here (note: if you have one of the major 3 gamepads such as 360, ps3, or logitech rumblepad just download the settings file in the zip at the bottom of this post):
http://xpadder.com/gcdb.php?command=...=Rumblepad 2
Finally, download this file into XPadder to set up the witcher (works on 360 gamepad, logitech gamepads, ps3, and others with the same layout):
http://cloudstew.com/files/XPadder Witcher.zip
The zip file also contains controller settings for the 360 controller, PS3 controller, and Rumblepad controllers so you don't have to set them up individually.
Have fun!
Aah cheers man!Chinner said:I don't think so, but I found this post for you:

Don't pre-judge the original based on what you played of DA2.The Lamonster said:But maybe I'll give the original a chance someday.

The combat does get kinda better, I mean, adding in new skills and shit. Might be worth playing on hard so alchemy is worth while. When I first played the game I stopped playing, but if you break through the prologue/chapter 1 it develops into something brilliant.Brazil said:I'm two hours into The Witcher... Yeah, I still cant get past the combat. Hoping to find a mod that makes it better.Brazil said:I'm two hours into The Witcher... And I don't think I wanna keep playing this. I can't believe how crap the combat is.
Gvaz said:Just get past chapter 1.
Prologue is cool, chapter 1 just fucking drones on, Chapter 2 owns, Chapter 3 owns less, Chapter 4 is the best, chapter 5 owns less than 3, and the epilogue is about like chapter 3.
Yeah, I'm gonna have to say I like the combat. It's simplistic but it's easy in the mechanics and what you can do in the game.
I never said anything was wrong with 2? I'm just waiting for that update now since it's so close. Seems silly not to.Gvaz said:What's wrong with 2? Oh the controller? It seems to work fine, though it feels too clunky to me compared to using the keyboard.

They already have sound notifications in the design.bloodydrake said:I didn't hate the combat as much as some. I just wish there was a mod that made the combo notification better(bigger brighter maybe with a sound notification as well) and it shouldn't be so pixel hunter happy, you shouldn't have to make sure your curser doesn't slip off your target.

Also I never thought it was a pixel hunt and never had any issues with that. Then again, I'm an arms length (shoulder to knuckles) from my monitor
ZZMitch said:I just beat Half Life 2 Episode One in one sitting yesterday. It was completely amazing. I really liked Half Life 2, but I can't help but fall in love with short, expertly paced games. I think a great short campaign is the best type of single player experience and that is what the episodes seem to provide. I am so excited to play through Episode 2 in one sitting sometime as well!
I wish I had known about that one bullet achievement before I started though, it would have been fun to try to do that.

JaseC said:Episode Two, being the best FPS this generation, is going to... hell, I don't know. I don't think I've ever seen anybody label Episode One as "amazing".I think it was StuBurns, though, who described it as a continuation of the best bits of Half-Life 2, which is a description I can agree with.
Derrick01 said:Those loot based games shouldn't be as long as normal rpgs. I would estimate DS3 took me about the same amount of time, maybe 20 hours, but I can tell you by the end I was really ready for it to finish. I was bored to tears using the same 3 useful abilities by then.
Ep 2 encourages one sitting, almost. It's one great road trip.ZZMitch said:Hey, if Episode 2 is even better, awesome! I wish more games had episodic content like this. I love games where I can power through in one sitting and have a great time doing it.
I have said that yeah. I do see EP1 as HL2's epilogue, and EP2 more as HL3 part one. And I do think it's the best shooter I've ever played. I don't want to over hype it for anyone going in the first time, but it's such a different game in it's focus. It's amazing Valve managed to change directions so radically without missing a beat. There are even things in EP2 that I would swear were bad game design choices, the tunnels+lights for example, but in the context of the story it's about as intense as anything I've played.JaseC said:Episode Two, being the best FPS this generation, is going to... hell, I don't know. They went from isolation, to partnership, to camaraderie. HL3 will need to have Gordon leading an army to keep the elevation going.
(Although the tunnel+lights thing is kind of a take on the motion detector from Aliens, which was a genius design decision for a film)
