Yeah, I know what you mean. I'm pretty hardy to a lot of things now - I've made accidental clicks in the past, stumbled into places I definitely shouldn't have been. Hell, even on the clear net. The deep web takes the biscuit though - anything goes, pretty much, and I hear a lot of stories about what you can find down there. It's basically a haven for psychopaths in some places. Luckily I've never found anything too bad - you just have to be vigilant when navigating around.
Yikes. That's already enough, I guess...
There's much worse out there...

Hm, I was kind of like that first time - well, I didn't download it 3 times haha, but I left it there on my desktop for ages before trying it out.
Don't worry about getting into trouble... I mean, USING TOR is legal - just depends what you do whilst you're on it. It's near enough anonymous too, and even if you get caught, the law isn't going to waste their time looking for someone who stumbled onto a drugs marketplace if he didn't buy anything, know what I mean?
Just have a look around - it's really interesting. Go visit SilkRoad - it's interesting, not just for the drugs, but for the other things people sell too. Then check out a forum somewhere, read the hidden wiki... just avoid the obvious things - they're usually pretty well advertised. Like I said earlier in the thread, I wouldn't click anything with 'chan' or 'CP' in the name, just as a heads up.

Noooo. Well, yes, if you look for that kind, but the ones you'll stumble upon will be legitimate scientific/mathematical documents, ranging form anything to everything.
Some research papers are on national history, others on the complex workings of scientific equipment... actually, the most interesting one I found was a document detailing components of a nuclear reactor.
Come to think of it, it might have been illegal or leaked or something... I dunno. But yeah, it all depends where you look. I'm sure there's gross stuff out there somewhere, describing autopsies or whatever.

Yeah I guess, some people just publish there work there, or collate that of others. Some are huge though - makes you wonder, again, if they're even available elsewhere.
Also, isn't chipsandsalad or saladandchips another one of those weird websites? I got linked it once.

It's legal to use, but may be against your ISP's terms of service, so check first (I'm gonna go ahead and say whatever, because they'll only give you a warning at first anyway).
It's a gateway to something... not sure if it's hell. It's really what you make of it. Sure, there are some horrible things on there - Child porn and murder? Combine the two and it's probably on there.
I seriously don't want to go into it though, because it's a foul subject, is probably against GAF's ToS and I've never seen it first hand, so couldn't paint a very accurate picture for you, but I've basically heard there's some terrible things on there, porn related, gore related, torture, abuse... anything, really, I guess, because nothing's regulated.
I've only ever seen adverts (links) for the middle level stuff, like child porn and murder videos. Never actually seen any of this myself, like I say, but it's there.
This said, there are some very interesting things on there - perhaps the word 'wonderful' might fit the description, but it depends how you get excited.
A wealth of knowledge, bizarre and interesting marketplaces, communities of hackers and seriously talented computer scientists etc, leaks of all descriptions - upcoming technology, governmental things on different levels...
I basically visited to find the weird, elusive and interesting, and you can find it if you look.
I remember some guy was advertising this document to download of 100+ pages, full of serials of some kind, or strings of numbers anyway, claiming it was highly important to a certain organisation, but "not in a way you'd imagine", or words to that effect.
That's just cool to witness, y'know? Cool to find.

This is a valid point - you're not gonna find a great deal of things just navigating certain 'surface' sites, so you should be fine and protected from some of the more gruesome things.
You have to be careful summing TOR up, because in one instance, it's home to a lot of strange people who post whatever they desire.
But on the other hand, it's not the height of anonymity or the definitive index of secretive/illegal behaviour - people that are truly concerned about concealing their identity, or wish to engage in other, more serious illegal activities (such as mass fraud, criminal networks, trafficking, digital attacks) will use far more sophisticated and 'professional' systems. TOR's like a middle ground - probably only a quarter of the way down, actually, if you think of the 'internet' like a deep lake.

I tried to, the formatting hurt, so I kinda left it. Plus it's worded in a way that tries to force you into accepting it as fact by attempting to prey on your conscience, and I don't like that.

The stuff accesible via TOR sounds really interesting but I dunno if I want to bother with it knowing what some of the portals can potentially lead to. Some of those links to gibberish websites just strikes me as stuff that someone made on a lark with the intention of weirding people out. I'm sure there's a pretty great NOSLEEP reddit story that can be fashioned out of the concept of Deep Web hmmmmmm

Trying not to ruin the spirit of the thread by getting derailed looking at these awesome links before posting my own, but any kind of description with your links is appreciated. Like, globalmove.us is an art project more or less, I had to research that a bit since the marker started in the South Pacific near Pitcairn and then went bananas.

Those poor girls. Getting called fat & ugly, before, during & after sex is obviously something that a few of them are clearly not expecting it, are deeply hurt by it, and may never get over it. Especially when you factor in the fact that women typically need at least some level of emotion connection before sex (sex wherein they're brutally skull fucked till they vomit, while being slapped etc, called fat, ugly, etc, as I said before). Maybe they love it. Maybe some do. Not all those girls though. And now those are all over the internet in a fairly famous series of videos. Quite honestly I wonder how the guys over there can step out of their offices and not have their faces pounded into lunch meat or worse. I feel terrible for those girls. Porn girls or not. That shit is awful and seriously not for the faint of heart because those videos really depress me. I don't know why but for some reason those hit me hard and I found them to be truly strange. I feel like that sort of stuff is horrible for the porn industry because if I can't stomach it, then fuck. I mean I'm an old hand at this and that stuff seriously smudged my soul.

I don't think what happened to your pal is what happens if you do the bitcoin thing + silk road. I have never done it but I don't think what you said there in bold is accurate.
I tried to make it all the way through, but it gave me a headache. It's pretty scary/sad how that makes perfect sense to someone out there. I found it years ago on crank.net, which is a collection of crazy personal webpages. A lot of the links there are dead, though.

But yea it's basically a bunch of horrible vids capturing terrible accidents and such. It's like when you hear about a women getting stoned to death or a man getting burned alive on the news. That site usually has the footage. Watched a video of a man burning alive once. Slowly. There was even a close up of him at the end.
See I don't get how people get a kick out of watching these - it's a bizarre obsession that I can't quite comprehend - whenever I see a similar video, I just feel a bit disgusted and move on.
