From what I've heard, there is some very real shit on it.

Ive seen a few posts from this forum, and it takes the cake as the strangest and most sickening thing I've seen on the internet. The FBI apparently shutting it down a few years ago helps make it feel legit

Most of Tornet is kind of dull to me, at least what you can get to from the Hidden Wiki. The hitmen stuff is basically all trolling, the drug sites tend to be overpriced, the BBS forums hold discussions that aren't too far off from what you can find on the regular internet (in fact any illuminati discussion tends to link to regular ol youtube videos as "sources"), and the one black market site that loaded for me had such incredible items as "jpg of Rainbow Dash" and "Moby Dick in formatted txt file" for a few bitcoins each. Most BBS forums are long dead too, feels like everything linked on HW more or less died around 2010.

The child porn sites probably lives up to the "Dark Sinister Underbelly" image that people like to prop up, but I have zero interest at looking at those so who knows.

Hey man, those jpgs of Rainbow Dash go for big money up here on the clearnet.

Hm, some new things are cropping up. The creators of SR recently tested out a weapons market place. It was removed after a while, but for a month or two you could purchase all sorts of weapons in the US. Right down to ex-MOD Land Rovers with blast protected undersides 'perfect for a getaway vehicle'. The worrying thing is this is just on the surface. The wiki won't take you anywhere too interesting, but you can follow a few trails to get to some places. Mostly you have to ask, though, on forums via PM.

Thats kind of what I was getting at. I imagine most people who get on Tor to see what the whole deal is probably just get on Hidden Wiki, which isn't that interesting. I think for the majority of people who want to jump in, see something crazy for no effort and then jump out its just not worth it.

I've always meant to put more time into it, and try to find IRC channels to talk in but I haven't gotten around to it yet. I do find the idea of tornet, and some of the more general BBS forums pretty interesting. But like I said most of the forums are dead, and the few that are active I'm not too interested in.

Ya the active ones (if many) are pretty well hidden from most users. You have to get lucky, or dig really hard to find one, or get invitied.

I went to the wiki and found a lot of shit, but didn't really bother to follow the links so I'll just ask... what kind of places? What can you find on them? Drugs/CP/weapons/hitmen kinda stuff? Sounds legit

Lots and lots of CP and some drugs. I've seen some weapons being sold on there but idk how legit that is.

I figured. Some of the links on the wiki I found kinda interesting... books and music stuff (and some political forums) but, again, didn't really bothered to follow the links. Kinda coward-ish of me :p

Better to be safe than sorry. Its hard to get to a lot of the areas unless you are given an access point. There are legit reasons why people or groups use the deep web, not just illegal things.

The Offended page of Encyclopedia Dramatica. Oh, god.
I knew a guy back in the day who fiended on shock shit, pretty much all of the above. He's at work on his phone like, "Hey man, hey man look at this, haha, look at this, c'mon man just look".

Lots of CP, it seems - obviously never been there, but avoided a lot of it. Some drugs sites. Only a few I can name off the top of my head. Hitmen, I guess - but it's not as straight forward as you'd think. A lot of it is 'trolling' - except it's not, it's just fake posting.
Weapons, not so much, not from my experience anyway. If you go very deep down, you can get to some serious stuff regarding ex-military equipment and tools - never been there myself, however.
Other things yo'll start to uncover are little pockets of communities, focused on certain things - wikileaks style programs, people looking for certain withheld documents, larger scale fraudulent activities... lots of research papers, and banned material too - some worth more attention than others, mind - books on cooking with marijuana aren't exactly riveting to discover.
Then beyond that, it gets difficult to get any further in my experience - down to the point where nothing's indexed anymore, no-one's willing to talk about it or there's no trace of it's existence. You have to go ahead and down right ask people, root around - but it's always worthless, to be honest.

You can get further - it's just how you do it that's the problem. Someone of my knowledge and skill can only get so far. Let's call it the clear dark net!

These kinds of people have serious problems in their own self security, to the extent they feel the need to force their interests on others to validate their beliefs. It's like they're not sure what they're doing, but all they know is that they feel alone.

No problem man. For such an easy place to find, it's subject to a lot of mysticism and rumour, so I like to clarify the details a little more.

Let me say a few closing things - the surface of the Deep Web is pretty much what you'd expect - trashy forums, child pornography and some illicit trade.
Then there's a kind of middle, a place where it kinda mellows out - documents, books, media of usefulness - some personal works etc.
After that you have a kinda thin layer of the darker parts of the DW - not dark in nature but dark in legality, dark as in reaaaally shifty, and some leads to more serious programs, like people trafficking.
But then it fails to pick up again, and you hit a wall. A dark, impenetrable wall, of sorts.
I've just found at this point, there's only a few people that talk about where else you can go, but it just sounds like they're making it up.

I think you rarely get people that hop from one side of the curtain to the other - they're too smart.

www.something.com

It's the fact someone is paying a monthly server for who knows how long now to maintain this domain is what makes it so strange for me.

But jesus those are some weird ass links you guys are posting.

See, these are the things that interest me the most - dormant servers, hosting a single site, or a network of information. Public domains that display seemingly useless data, random strings of numbers, but remain active. Even better, government or unknown subdomains, that aren't indexed but have content - but again, indecipherable or confusing... I love it.

Uber, thanks for the replies, I love to read these kind of things, however, I do want you to be careful, last thing anyone would want is you getting arrested or something because of this. I know I might be paranoid, but you never know.

This.

I suppose on some level it can be informative and even educational, but some of the stuff out there just blows my mind on why anyone would want to see it.

It's the same when you, for example, feel immense satisfaction after slicing enemies off in a video game--the same feeling. Some people crave that kind of feeling.

I don't think anything could beat this..

Given the responses to this I'm glad I clicked out of that video almost as soon as I started watching. I already made the mistake of going into that sub reddit about watching people die.

Aside from that, some of this stuff is pretty interesting.

Incredibly Naive
This thread is really scary... I googled a ton of the stuff from that image and while I know a lot of it is bullshit, some of even the earlier stuff I found was awful... how the hell is that bunny tube shit even legal? How can peole get away with this stuff?

One of the creepiest is this one where this guy found an old picture hidden in his room. It was from the 60s or 70s and showed a boy dressed in womens clothes looking scared. i think it was from a poster on GAF. IIRC, the story that the poster dug up was that a neighbors kid went missing years ago. Its probably still in the Creepy Story thread but i dont have time to search for it right now.

People have been talking about this throughout the thread and no one has produced anything. I would like to read the original.
Great thread btw, interesting stuff.

The FYAD board on Something Awful. It makes absolutely no sense at times.

Oh, and I believe it's only SA members (which I am) who can view that board.

i second this..i find browsing 4 chan makes more sense than some of the stuff that pops up there....they had an offshoot a few years back called BYOB and it was having a virtual lobotomy as none of it made sense

Yeah :(

Edit: Don't think it was The Lamonster, searched the creepy thread for his username, he posted a few times but nothing about that story. Unless he deleted it.

It's Lamonster. I'm positive of it. There's more than one creepy thread. I still have the link to the pic in my inbox and its from Lamonster. I'll search for his post and link to it when I find it

And man, Funky Forest has a killer cast. Tadanobu Asano? Hell yeah. And one of the directors is behind Evangelion 1.0 lol
