Always-online killed any interest that I had in this game.
I genuinely don't understand the always online gripes for a smartphone game. Unless you're commute takes you through a deadzone or something, I don't see that as a concern for the overwhelming majority who will play this game.
The same people relentlessly slagging off this game are exactly the same people who, in every single thread about Nintendo, drone on about how they should go third party and should just make mobile games instead of 3DS games etc etc.
Nintendo just bring out absolute hate in people. It's partially a reaction to the occasionally bewildering things Nintendo do, partially hate at Nintendo for not being as sycophantically faux-'consumer friendly' as Sony and Microsoft (that is, I think all major hardware companies are just as profit driven as each other), and partially just total xenophobia because Nintendo are probably the biggest consumer goods company in the world to be SO non-Western in the way they operate.
This is paranoid nonsense. You have no proof as to who these people are.

But yeah, nobody likes it, and Miitomo had a better buzz.

Could the posters who are saying "there are loads of quality premium mobile games like this" please actually name some, which aren't ports?
What are you talking about?
So; the rayman ios games or super mario run?
Oh boy here we go
Chaos Rings 1, 2, 3 and Omega
Implosion Never Lose Hope
Crashlands
Deemo
Cytus
Reigns
Sorcery 3 and 4
Sword and Sworcery
Siralim 2
Riptide GP: Renegade
Gemini a story of two stars
That was perhaps the best line in the thread. The insanity and salt is kind of off the chart. It's doing worse than a free radio app though. Think about it.
Aren't 1-2 and Omega not working on iOS 9 and above? (could be 8). Also, none of those are a platformer.List, from the very beginning, invalidated with Chaos Rings 1

People on here say the same thing as an argument as to why dedicated handheld gaming is dying out but... I just don't see it.
For bonus points- they have to be linear games with levels and steady progression, rather than 'go for the high score' puzzlers and endless runners like Threes or Canabalt.
And they have to be something other than Around the World in 80 Days, Monument Valley and the GO series.

I'l take that challenge.

(Gonna edit with more, just want to get the post in)
And that's just confirming to your very narrow criteria. That dorsn't include RPGs like Ember, a slew of roguelikes, board games with rich campaigns, a lot of 4x strategy games, sims like the Kairosoft games, whatever the hell Crashlands and Drylands are, etc.
I'd fucking kill if it meant getting a Captiain Toad Treasure Tracker type game on mobile.... Isometric puzzle design propelled Hitman and Tomb Raider to big success on portable devices, so I hope something along those lines is in the cards for Nintendo.
I'm sure IGN reviewed things like Infinity Blade or Angry Birds. One things for certain, why do these big review game sites like gamespot and IGN are quick to review Mario Run but not other quality premium mobile games?
Where are there reviews for at least some of them? No where to be found.
There's some decent stuff there, also some poor stuff (Sword and Sworcery was truly crap imo), but they're still all pretty slight indie games, sort of low level Steam stuff (and most of these have released on Steam too).
Yeeaahhhhh ok, I agree up to a point. A lot of this stuff really feels cheap though, like somewhere between Facebook games and free flash games, even if the gameplay is innovative or fun. Shame we don't see stuff like Stardew Valley or Undertale on mobile- games like that would convince me to take the format a bit more seriously.
A premium game is a premium game no matter how much is it's production value, some of the games I listed could be released full price on the 3DS or Vita and no one would bat any eye
I think people would definitely bat an eye if Sword and Sworcery (or any of those games) was released at retail for £35. For £5 on the eShop probably not, although it would pale compared to similarly priced games such as Fairune and BoxBoy
The reason they have that style is because they're designed for a tiny screen that you interact with with your fingers. Thick lines and big sprites work best on the platform.Yeeaahhhhh ok, I agree up to a point. This game seems to have better replay ability of the levels with different characters (all Raymans different characters play the same if I remember right they're just skins), different coin placement, and ghost trials. So; the rayman ios games or super mario run?

Kingdom Rush series
This game seems to have better replay ability of the levels with different characters (all Raymans different characters play the same if I remember right they're just skins), different coin placement, and ghost trials.
BUT in Rayman Jungle Run, and Fiesta Run especially, you collect all the things in a level and unlock a whole new harder level, so there are a TON of levels (at least in Fiesta, I forget how many Jungle has).
I've been playing Fiesta Run casually for ages so it was a great value for me (you can get both games for the price of Mario with extra to), but they are more fast paced reactionary Runners compared to Mario's slower pace.
I'm willing to bet you've never taken a train to work on the east coast
It is basically impossible to get a stable internet connection on NJTransit, PATH or the NY subway
I remember trying to play Miitomo on my commute and I literally couldn't because it would sometimes take upwards of ten minutes for the game to get a connection it could run on. And I'm far from "the boonies," I live in suburban NJ right next to NYC.
I typically leave my data off unless I need to use it, and in theory there is no reason I should need to use the internet for SMR.I genuinely don't understand the always online gripes for a smartphone game. Unless you're commute takes you through a deadzone or something, I don't see that as a concern for the overwhelming majority who will play this game.
Please list some good mobile Roguelikes. I have no idea where I would start looking and would love a game or two like that on my phone. And that's just conforming to your very narrow criteria. That doesn't include RPGs like Ember, a slew of roguelikes, board games with rich campaigns, a lot of 4x strategy games, sims like the Kairosoft games, whatever the hell Crashlands and Drylands are, and, yes, lots of indies that can also be played on PC. etc.
Of course, there are lots of ports. You can get games like Legends of Grimrock, XCOM EW, FTL, Dungeons of the Endless, KOTOR, Baldur's Gate, Jade Empire, Titan Quest, Rome Total War, This War of Mine, Desktop Dungeons, Severed, Steamworld Heist, Papers, Please, and tons more for $10 or less.
Kingdom Rush and Kingdom Rush Frontiers are both on Steam (which is actually how I first played the series).
How many have you played them? Your previous comment seemed like it was asking what games are there, but this sounds like you already know of themThere's some decent stuff there, also some poor stuff (Sword and Sworcery was truly crap imo), but they're still all pretty slight indie games, sort of low level Steam stuff (and most of these have released on Steam too).

What does that even mean? What qualifications does one need or to review a Mario auto runner?I don't think traditional gaming websites are qualified to be reviewing something like super mario run. Gamers are going to be too biased in their expectations when really SMR was designed to grab the attention of new or lapsed mario fans

For both games, the two versions were developed together, releasing a few weeks apartDid Siralim 1 and 2 come out on phones before PC?
WiFi only iPads and iPod touches, means someone like my brother can't play on our iPad while in the car, stuff like that.

That tired schtick...A 7 from Gamespot? Yikes. I guess Miyamoto and Tezuka's designing skills have waned after all these decades. :/

What schtick? It's a 7! When's the last time a proper, EAD developed Mario platformer got anything less than a 9?

He's not talking about those gamesI don't think there is a need for reviews for games like Angry Birds or Magic Alchemist. Everyone can try them for free. Furthermore there is no reward in reviewing mobile game number 16547843, no one will read the review anyway. Many want to read about Mario Run, obviously.
Actually, the funny thing is that the big sites that will mention mobile games are PC sites. Which makes sense since mobile and PC are quite similar platforms, and the majority of ports on mobile are PC games. RockPaperShotgun praised Device 6, Hoplite, Dream Quest, The Room, 80 Days, Sorcery, and othersOne things for certain, why do these big review game sites like gamespot and IGN are quick to review Mario Run but not other quality premium mobile games?

Well if you cherry pick for reviews like you did to continue your weird shtick, all of them. What schtick? It's a 7! When's the last time a proper, EAD developed Mario platformer got anything less than a 9?
