Test Drive Unlimited 2 |OT|

Does it really have all the details that a real world has though? Like 1000's of kms of Road & tons of buildings? Remember that TDU games are based off of real world maps, they can't sculpt a map that can have everything spaced out like it was in a game like Red Dead Redemption.
It has civilians, buildings, traffic, road signs, etc, but is meant to take liberties. While I fell in love with the Oahu in TDU1, Ibiza just isn't singing to me. I'd rather have a fictional locale with more varied roads and environments (snow, mud, cliffside racing, and more).

Well then, this game was made just for you.

Completely. After two months of GT5 I want something completely escapist. I'm going to play it as cheesily as possible.

Yep. I'm still playing GT5 but I'll have TDU2 as an escapist game. In no way is it a replacement for GT5.

Is there any place to buy non-douche bag clothes? I nearly vomited when I saw v-neck shirts and skinny jeans.

I will now definitely be buying this game tomorrow. Have any Gaffers set up a car club yet?

I'm getting tons of lockups on the 360 and it's pissing me off. Even more when I turn it back on and find the auto save didn't keep up with my driving unless you pull up the map or go into a location.

Yeah, it seems you can only have one character. Kind of a bummer, along with not being able to sell cars or even move them to new garages.

If its because you want to use online on a non-gold account, I think you can sign in your gold GT into the second controller, then on the first controller you can use another profile (I'm not sure if it has to be an offline only profile or if it can be an Xbox Live Silver GT)

Anyone ever have a problem with their game not loading? I am seeing endless screens of backgrounds and music. I wonder if my save got corrupted or something.

Edit: looked on their official forum, saw it's a problem with the servers. Disconnected my wireless adapter and now I'm in, just not online. Fix your shit, Atari.

Man, I just made the 40mile drive across Oahu only to discover that the secret teleport to Manana island isn't there any more :/
I had fun going/getting to that island :(

Is there any secret places like that in this one? I haven't found anything yet.

yeah I've had like 10 fucking lockups today where I had to turn off the 360 and it's obviously a problem on their server end. Now it just sits at the intro screen after you select a storage device.

I still haven't been able to even step into the casino, but at least they let me download it. Goddamn what a botched release of this game.

What is runs great? To me that is a solid 60fps.

To me "runs great" means i'm not seeing the fps jump around. Everything runs very smooth.

I haven't looked at what fps i'm getting. It's running well so I wasn't even curious.

Spent a few hours playing this with my friend using a G25. I'm glad I didn't spend any money on this game, it's terrible. FFB is still non-existent and the only way to get something that resembles ffb is to use the logitech profiler but that won't help much and basically just adds the centering spring. The douche-factor and attempts at jokes were funny for a while though.

I saw some people say the handling is the same as TDU1....yeeeeah, not so much (maybe with a gamepad but not with a wheel). We had TDU1 installed on that pc and it's definitely not the same (I'm not talking about the hardcore mode in TDU1). I'll go give the game another chance if they actually do something about the handling and ffb.

Also, there's some other problems with the game physics, doing 110km/h in a Koenigsegg CCXR-Edition in 5th or 6th gear and stepping on the throttle does nothing...seriously, it takes forever to pick up any speed. I should've tried it with some other cars too like a Veyron and such.

All those missions where you have to follow some dudes girlfriend to see if she's cheating? I wouldn't have thought any of them had girlfriends if they hadn't said so.

Haha, we got a good laugh from doing one of those, at the end when the guy was nearly crying and walked away your character had a big shit eating grin on his face and waved him goodbye.

maintaining 60fps with maxed out/high settings is impossible in this game ... even if you have a NASA gaming PC

I rather have a game locked at 30fps than a game that fluctuate in the range of 60fps. Consistency in framerate is definitely more important because human eye detects changes better than anything else. Believe it or not, 60fps dropping to 40fps will look choppier than a game maintaining a constant 30fps.

that's why I activate Vsync almost everytime (and to stop tearing)

I only let it deactivated in very old games where I get about 200 fps (average) with max settings like Half Life 2 (even with the FakeFactory HD mods)

I found out something extremely useful regarding the PC SKU:

If you find that your sound is crappy and muted, it's because Windows7 creates it's own volume slider for TDU2 when you boot the game. To get around this, alt-tab out of the game, and click on the speaker icon in the bottom right tray. You'll see a specific "Test Drive" volume slider. Move this back up to max and your sounds will be restored to normal levels.

It makes a world of difference.

If you thought the road races were easy, wait till you try the offroad races, lol. I'm pretty sure they gave the AI the exact same model as the road races so they don't drift or anything. You can beat them by 10+ seconds easily.

That said, I just got the Spyker D8 Peking-to-Paris! It's soooo awesome, but where do I tune it? I also traded in my Audi for a Subaru, and I think for the A3 competition I'll go for the Nissan. I <3 Asian cars -- Dat Tokyo Drift!

What's the co-op like in this game? Can you do any of the story stuff, or is it just the follow-the-leader races? This game kind of seems like Saints Row without the violence, and that was one of my favorite games for co-op.

This and a thousand other things in the game leads me to believe that Eden is completely mocking the entire lifestyle they're forced to present through this game. Which is pretty awesome.

Another great example is when you complete a license test, and it cuts to your avatar who says "Thanks Jim... I couldn't have done it without you". It's so cheesy and deadpan that I can't believe it's not supposed to be a joke.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's the case. And did no-one else pick up on the fact that the name of the first mechanic you meet is Jude and they guy you're with says "Hey Jude"? I'm beginning to thing this is a Turquoise Jeep-level of parody which is fucking awesome. The party intro, the dream, the plastic surgery... it's all *too* camp to be accidental.

Bought it and like it so far, the only time I notice the controls being too twitchy is from the cockpit view.

Are the servers not up for PS3? I tried to redeem a code for the DB9 carbon and it wouldn't let me.

I like how the fucking AI controlled cars barely budge when you perform a pit maneuver, but they touch you once and you're gone.

Wow, I just got a draw on 1st place with another racer. Same exact time, down to milliseconds.

Yep, twice. First time I was caught by a helicopter, second time by a regular patrol unit. It aint that easy to run away in this game, cops spawn everywhere.

The cops don't chase you. If you break enough laws, players in your vicinity will be informed and given the option to chase you down. They then become cop cars and you have to outrun them.

I've never seen this happen, however.

EDIT: Oh, I guess there are AI cops too. But players also get the opportunity to join in.

It's DOAX with cars, and in my book there is nothing disparaging about that statement.

I think it's far more like Playstation Home with cars. Anyway, there is a sports clothing store near the northern coast of the island (near the A6 races) for those who don't wanna look like a hipster douche (and rather look like a sports douche lol).

Is it me or does everyone think that something is off with the on-line servers in this game? It seems that half the time, it says that the TDU Servers are not available and when coming across MP Icons, there is hardly every anyone racing. I see people playing on-line, but the MP races are like a ghost town.

TDU can really sink its hooks into you, especially on the discovery aspect. If somebody makes an interesting open world I'm compelled to explore every last nook and cranny of it.

When I first booted up TDU1 I spent hours upon hours just revisiting areas I've been to in Oahu to see how the game presented them.

Now if only I could manage to toggle and switch settings to get a decent handling model.

just completed the around the island timeattack with traffic race on ibiza (last race on the ibiza island cup or whatever it's called). holeeeee shit. just driving around on the island outside races I never expected the drive around the island race to be this awesome. :O it's fucking fantastic. the roads in this worked extremely well as a single lap. the improved physics/handling and traffic shines particularly well in this race. I did crash a couple of times, came in at 45mins. so there's plenty of time to dick around in this one as well. the time limit was 54mins or something. damn, I love this game. pure joy from start to finish there. :O

those super long around the island races were easily my favourite ones in tdu1 as well, and I can't fucking wait to get back to hawaii and do them over again in tdu2 now.

So I have run into incredibly frustrating things. First was when I reached 99% of roads found and had to find the tiny bits left by slooooowly scanning at full zoom because there is no way to highlight missed roads and no border between Area 1 & 2 on the map. I think these are massive, glaring oversights. In addition to this, I have 315 points before I level up in Area 2 and unlock the final clothes and tuning levels. How can I get those points? Uhhh... well there is basically nothing left to do except wait around for single player challenges to show up in Area 2. That is sooo stupid.

So...you know when you are in that groove where you try to get the perfect run on a track/event and you keep trying and trying and finally, all the planets align, the wind is perfect, pigs fly and shit like that and you nail the best time and you sit back and say to yourself, "fuck yeah"....well that was the feeling I had tonight playing some of the Community Events.

I tried and tried and I finally got the #1 time and by a decent margin, figured my time would be good enough being that this particular event had over 250 entries and I am #1. So feeling pretty good about this being that I tried several, several times to be so close and I finally did it.

Now imagine that feeling of accomplishment and then on that final run that you finally beat everyone else that has come before you and the fucking servers go down and it did not record your run! I swear to everything that is holy that this game has more server downtime than any game i played before.

I would not be as pissed if it did it on the runs where I did not do well, but fuck, I tried this event 10 times, costing about 100 or so credits to attempt it each time and finally it pays off and on that 10th time the servers go down.

I would say over the last 8-10 months or so, it is begining to feel like we should not buy new games that have on-line components and even offline games anymore. There have been so many issues as of late with alot of games that waiting a month or two might be worth it so they can sort shit out. I miss the days where games were released that were properly tested...Fallout Vegas anyone? Fable 3? Test Drive Unlimited?

Only Nintendo seems to still care about shipping games as bug-free as possible. But then again, the Wii can't really apply patches can it?
