NASCAR's "excitement" comes from all the close proximity passing. What I am referring to is there is nothing like watching a Formula 1 car taking a corner like Eau Rouge, Casino Square, Wall of Champions, etc. That is where the sport, from a TV perspective, is at its best. They need to show Webber overtaking Alonso up Eau Rouge every time F1 is mentioned on US TV. All this KERS/DRS stuff is just going to fly right over the head of the average US motorsports (NASCAR) viewer. They need to show high speed and high drama.
...to an enthusiast. To everyone else, they're just more corners. You really need a certain level of appreciation for the finer points of the sport to pick up on things like that, they're not opening gambits.
The only thing that is going to sell F1 to a mass American audience is an American driver (that does well).
