The reason that almost everyone loves the original is how the moral dilemma was presented in the end. Perhaps because I am 100% believer of killing one person for the sacrifice of others is wrong and evil deed, that one person's life is just as important as millions - while the resolution of the game was not clear cut, at least it was told such way - that left players to think for themselves the result, in a perfectly respectful manner - albeit I do think the choice was somewhat narrow and arbitrary for the sake of presenting such dilemma.

TLOU2 though, has this arrogant & condescending tone of trying to teach the players it's own theme - how bad the cycle of vengeance is, especially by forcing the player to play as certain character in later 10 hrs of the game - that many people were feeling okay all the way upto that point, then suddenly just got turned off by playing that character. Personally I have no issues with character's sexual orientation or whatnot - but while I see what the creator's intention was to see the both sides - if it didn't work for the mass, the storyteller has failed to deliver it's message, period.

There's no one to blame on this except the storyteller's own arrogance. The ones who can enjoy the message of the game as its presented in current form - I am genuinely happy for you - but that doesn't make the common folks opinion wrong. That's just a shallow elitism - and perhaps that's why there's so much gap between the reaction of the mass and educated Journalists.

one bad thing was too less arrows for me. i would just kill everyone with arrow if i could , sadly after you use 6 of them , even after looting everything around i couldnt find stuff for them to craft so then no more arrows for some time until you can again use couple shots. i would need like arrows all time .

The prologue part is definitely tame (it's more of tutorial really) with the snow and all it doesn't pop out immediately but you can definitely see its better than 1, when I got to Seattle damn can't stop taking photos and it starting to open up gameplay wise and I'm still in the initial part of Seatlle so I'm definitely enjoying it better than TLOU so far.
It sure looks great is Seattle... But there are big stretches of nothing and 3 building You can scavange. That Seattle part is extremely slow imo. I prefer when they stay on track and thing keep moving. The open parts were well done in uc4 but I did not like how they opened the hub in uc4 and similarly in this so far.
I can't see how it's 10 so far with so little slow gameplay and new characters forced on You in this weird condescending way... The message seems kinda pointless. And yet souls games do not score 10s... What a weird world.
Anyway - after about 7 hours I like it in 8 kinda way. One was better. Simpler, faster and more focused so far

So you have not played it, yet you are talking about gameplay being on par with previous one, has pacing problems and it falls short. Really? Are you not the same poster who said you did not like the 1st game yet you preordered TLoU2 and you cancelled because of that one review by SkillUp
Yes, because I've seen enough of it to make that judgement. Though obviously I know playing it will FEEL better. Much like going to a concert, as opposed to watching a video of said concert. I am, yes, because for the first time that I could remember someone I respected as a reviewer shared the same opinions as mine on a game that I personally felt was overrated, but I did enjoy. I also said that I'd be buying it at some point, but that I'm also not rushing. That is not changing. Because while I thought the previous game was pretty good, I feel like the core gameplay here will be no different for me. Which is good/great for some, but I'm unsure of how I feel about it considering TLOU's gameplay and mechanics didn't wow me in the slightest. It was the story, writing, and characters that kept me going. The final package was something that I thought felt like a solid title, but not perfect or a masterpiece by any means. I feel, and am sure I'll feel the same way about TLOU2, if not slightly worse. Or maybe not, but we'll see. I can say it does contain some of their best work yet in terms of design and intricacies.

Not sure what you're trying to prove other than "burn me" because I don't own the game therefore I can't come up with a firm observation? Right. Regardless, it's just an observation and opinion of mine. 🤷‍♂️

It really makes you wonder though. For a game that's gotten so much backlash, how does it get such a high Metacritic score?
Last Jedi was praised by critics. Appealing to critics is a real thing and critics are pressured to be less crucial on things that have a lot of hype behind them.

True
It's, probably, one of the most interesting Star Wars games recently made

Notice the audience scores are much closer. Comparing it to TPM and AOTC is also not really the point those were in a different era when reviews were handled much differently.

The hype for Rise of Skywalker was very different as well compared to TLJ. TLJ was following a most successful movie even to most of the fans where as ROS was coming after whats considered by most to be a complete and utter disaster for the franchise. People had already turned their backs on the franchise by the time ROS was hitting so completely different scenarios.

I’m about 12 hours in. So far I’d give it a 6/10. It’s an average game with nice tech and decent combat, but everything else is bad.

Man, I could cite t-meter scores for ages, even Joker didn't fare that well and that's like... legitimately a great film. This idea that hype affects movie critics just doesn't wash, it certainly didn't stop them from tarring and feathering Batman V Superman.

Batman V Superman was beaten up by critics and fans of the medium and brand.

As someone who used to review games for a living, there is not direct incentive from a publisher to review a game well, but you better believe access is granted to some reviewers over others when they think someone will give them a better score. They keep track of what websites give what scores. It's a real thing.

BvS has a very strong cult following. It's revered as a masterpiece by the ReleasetheSnyderCut people, and it's kinda hard to deny their size and power at this point.

It's grown over time that's for sure but they are still pretty small. Isn't the official snyder cut Twitter fanbase like 30k followers?

Even though I disagree with the agenda the game panders to, TLOU2 has some tragic scenes in the game that resonated with me as it was emotional and brutal at the same time. It was very well done, and I was thinking about those scenes even when I was not playing the game. I won't deny the quality of the game, and there are definitely moments in the game that I liked and applaud.

so I just beat the game. I’d give it an 8. Not as good as the first. It coulda used some cuts honestly. I wasn’t nearly as emotionally affected as other people apparently have been - I think part of that is that the story is just gonna go along the way it goes no matter what you do when you’re interacting with it. It’s like a C-B movie with gameplay interspersed (and the gameplay is great btw) - it’s weird this is kinda the reverse of the first game where the story was better ultimately than the gameplay itself - this its reversed.

The ambitious narrative structure the game aims for is smart and worthy of praise. I was constantly saying to myself as I was playing “this is so good, how do people hate this?” and then I realized that most people who aggressively hate it have never even played or seen a minute of the fucking thing, and if they did they’d honestly probably change their mind on it. They just read a few plot points as leaks and decided they didn’t like the story threads. The writing and directing is really masterful and the gameplay is fun as fuck.

It's not like your hate can change anything (which ironically seems to be one of the major themes of the story itself by the way, had you played the game).

The game was among the top rated ever, the sales are among the best ever, nothing you can say will change that now so you should focus your hate on something else or go for a walk lol. It's not like a few haters can change anything, who cares outside of this board ?

I agree with the critics by the way, the game is a 10/10 in my book. Story is great, characters are interesting, graphics are great (animations are unmatched and make the game a joy to play), gameplay is great with a lot of tension.

Killing so many people is a bit at odds with the characters personalities though, but it's always the same problem in this kind of games.

Oh fuck off with that dude.
There are so many people who have streamed the whole game and reviewers that don't work for large outlets that didn't like the game.
Even the TLOU reddit page which is otherwise a big hugbox and echochamber is a big mix and has a ton of people who didn't like it either.

If you read the spoiler threads on the reddit you can see how people in the early chapters start out with a positive impression and then the longer the game goes on and the further in they get the more negative their opinion becomes.

People need to grow the hell up, the game is divisive and even the game devs were fully aware of this and outright said that it was going to be themselves.
There's no conspiracy here.
Yeah there's people review bombing the game and being stupid, but the game has 49924 ratings right now. When review bombings happen we're usually talking about a couple of hundred at most.
The truth is that the game is divisive and a lot of people don't like it, and it was totally expected.

Edit: Also a lot of people I see saying what you just said and defend the game like that also go on to say that they're '' 2-6 hours in '' in the very next breath.
I've seen so many people doing that not realizing that they're being hypocrites because they haven't even finished it themselves and yet praise the game and criticize others for not liking it and accusing them of not having finished it.
People just need to get over themselves.

I finished the game. I understand it's divisiveness, a lot of people cannot handle this game and do not accept what it asks of the player. Is it a good thing? I think for a medium of gaming it's a good thing overall, you can't make truly great stuff without pushing boundaries and it's divisive for a good reason like TLJ was.

And no it's not SJW pandering it's the conflict between fan-service and mildly safe entertainment and pushing new uncomfortable ideas on modern society. While TLJ is part of what most people see as entertainment franchiese, TLOU was supposed to be dark and gritty so doubling down on that instead of making a safe story is genius. TLJ was vindicated plenty by the milquetoast safe pandering of the sequel and so will this once enough distance is made.

Games rarely challenge people to this extent and it's very uncomfortable. For what it's worth the further I went, the MORE I liked the game because I was seeing how difficult this narrative is and how it forces me to feel these emotions successfully and subverts them. A lot of headcanon and emotional walls are being triggered and I think ND wanted it judging by the game narrative so in having a vitriolic polarized response, bizarrely I see it as a win for artistic intent of this work.

This..., just this.
I'm not that far into the game but thanks (sarcastically) to 9Gag, Twitter and other social media it's been spoiled for me.
Besides that, I really don't get the hate. So far it's gritty, brutal, haunting but also beautiful and humbling.
My thoughts that people don't want anything bad to happen in their games with their characters. But, suprise! That's life.

And also, finish the damn game first. I haven't and all I can say is what I think about the game up till now.
This can change, but I doubt it really will....

Oh and for people that say that ND has a SJW-agenda. Have you people never heard about inclusiveness.
There are gay and trans person on this planet, deal with it...

I understand what you want to convey but I still find it hilarious that you focused it so much as a game, and not solely based on the story.

Remember, to the anti-anti-woke D. Quixote the only possible reason not to gush over TLoU2 is that you're an incel, homophobe, a console warrior . a retard, or all of the above.

But the anti-anti-woke D. Quixote sees himself as a centrist, a moderate, a very reasonable impartial philosopher king who's willing to educate the plebs on what to like.

Please, I urge you to be grateful the anti-anti-woke D. Quixote is here everyday, on TLoU2 threads, telling it like it is for the benefit of all of mankind.

Why do we have to make this a fight against a single person?
How about posting your own opinion, adding some valid arguments to it and call it a day - why isn't that enough?

No, I'm not calling out poor behaviour.
I'd just care to click on a review thread and see some reviews or a discussion about those.
What I see is you attacking one guy - I don't care if you see that as a right, I just think it's sad because I'd much rather read about your own opinion than your "Take that"-post.

That's the coward's way out and would go against my wish to have a fair and honest discussion.
It's just sad to see how some people still tend to go the "Well, I'm gonna throw that hate around, care about your own business" route.

You're right. Those thousands of scores that went up after the game had been available for sale for 15 minutes were totally honest opinions.

You guys are so desperate here. Look how much you're reaching. You are willing to throw away common sense and now claim that Metacritic user scores are a legitimate thing.

If anyone is reading this post and considering buying this game...BUY IT! I just finished it, i'm impressed with both gameplay and story. I don't know why it has so bad user reviews on metacritics but the story is excellent, it gets better the more you play it. You actually get to see 2 sides of the story..
Last time i was that in impressed with a game was RDR2.

The game is an absolute masterpiece.
The reality is so simple... But is funny seeing the haters trying to make think the people they are the majority lol Tlou2 is a cherry on top of a fantastic generation. I can't imagine how hard is in "other places" looking over the competition and seeing how good and how much they have thmo offer lol

I think put good hours in to this game, but I haven’t figured out what part of the story that got so many people “offended”.
They were offended since the E3 kiss and it just snowballed from there... now get ready because people will say "I wasn't offended by that" and "the problem isn't women kissing the problem is the focus on it" or some other thing. But none of it changes that the general outcry began right then.

A certain segment early in the game but in general people have made this game into some avatar for everything they hate about mainstream gaming. They think that by raging against this game that they are somehow fighting the good fight against god knows what.

It's not the first time, and regrettably it probably won't be the last, where you grace TLoU2 threads with truly bizarre logic. Your best comeback is that because the outcry begun around E3 then that's supposed to prove the current outcry must also be motivated by homophobia. And even if people come in here and explain that's not their reason, still you won't buy it. The coincidence is just too obvious and you know better than the posters themselves.

It's been explained to you why this logic is fundamentally flawed, but still you want to hold on to it. You have your private salt mine, so much salt to expedite and not nearly enough TLoU2 threads to expedite it to.

I've put 22 hours so far into The Last of Us Part II. All I got to say is that the game is deserving of the 10's its receiving. It's the best game I've played so far. I can't say much without spoiling but I'm so glad that they put certain stuff into cutscenes. And that gameplay is so satisfying. I haven't read why people are so negative about the game(because I'm afraid of spoilers) but if I had to guess it has to do with the fact that Ellie is a lesbian. It's a shame that people are so homophobic that they can't enjoy this masterpiece.

This might do more harm than good and his review will probably be dismissed as "Campea? He's been an SJW shill for years so of course he's gonna love it". But, i think is important to note that he didn't play the game. He just watched a 10 hour cut of the story on YouTube. No spoilers btw, just some imagery already used in promotional trailers.

Come back after you finish it because you are very far off to why people don't like it.

You're right. Those thousands of scores that went up after the game had been available for sale for 15 minutes were totally honest opinions.

You guys are so desperate here. Look how much you're reaching. You are willing to throw away common sense and now claim that Metacritic user scores are a legitimate thing.
I never claimed that Metacritic is legitimate, I think that Metacritic is a joke.
But no one should be surprised that TLOU2 of all games is getting way more reviews than other games and to say that out ofalmost 60k reviews now the review bombing is really that significant I think is laughable.
If anything the negative review bombing probably honestly gets pretty cancelled out by positive review bombings.

3 people whining about SJW's on metacritic isn't why the game has a low score.
