Warner Brothers Studios put out a press release this morning amid major complaints over Batgirl's character profile, and the revisions made to it. In a stunning and brave display of awareness and acknowledgement of their privilege, studio heads had this to say about their planned re-revisions:
"We're human. We mess up. We are fortunate to be white, rich, and able bodied. We've listened to the outpouring of concern on Twitter, and we've felt the vibrations from the thousands that have been literally shaking. Our original revision was to make it apparent that Batgirl had lots of struggles in her road to physical recovery, and it took intensive physical therapy and several surgeries. We felt initially that this was implied through context, but we've since realized that Arkham games are enjoyed by everyone, including those lacking reading comprehension and the clinically mentally retarded.
In light of this, we've made the following changes. This is a list of what's on the table so far, and is in no way complete. We shoot for the finish line at WB, and that's wherever our mob of fans decides to shift the goal post
-Batgirl profile now reflects that she had the intense therapy and surgeries, but decided to break her own back nae-naeing in solidarity with the disabled community. New gameplay features include a grappling hook and taser mounted combat wheelchair.
-We realized that a lot of people don't know how to read, so we hired the smooth voiced narrator from the Mass Effect Codex to read everything very slowly.
-We realize some of our fans don't have hands, so we've included a full 100% video playthrough with commentary by Markiplier.
We hope these changes make our next product in this storied IP more enjoyable for the diverse net of fans we've managed to catch over the years. WB, and Batman both acknowledge our advantageous place in society, and we prostrate ourselves before the ones that really matter: everyone else,"
