What about gaming in 2017 would blow someone from 2007's mind?

If you would show people the latest U4 DLC gameplay trailer they would call bullshit and think it's pre rendered and another lie by Sony just like the Killzone 2 CGI, the same goes for God of War 4.

They'd probably say that about every big-budget game made in 2016/2017.

This is a real image from a video game

You just won this thread. Pretty graphics would be believable in 10 years. Microtransactions would disappoint people. Mobile gaming is a good call, though cell phone gaming was rudimentary smartphones were gearing up so you might get a "wow, neat" for that. But this? They'd laugh at you and say "no way. Never."

Reviewers last decade were such cynics, they would probally have called the game beautiful graphically but the oldschool design dated and backwards.

Depends on which part of last gen. There was a time where if you were shooting things in first person view you could guarantee yourself a near 90 Metacritic.

That Call of Duty far surpassed the sales and mainstream impact of any other shooter franchise ever. Before MW, it was a well-received but sort of quiet Medal of Honor clone.

No, thats what console players from console forums like neogaf think. Just like how they think Fallout didnt matter until 3 or Elder Scrools until Oblivion. Call of Duty wasnt a quiet game, it was an anticipated shooter that blew everyones minds when they played it, won multiple game of the year awards and sold in the millions and was one of the best games ever made at that point. The visceral nature of the game, the fury, spectacle, spielberg movie nature of the game - it was an incredible feat of gaming that every PC gamer played, was impressed by and talked about.

Just like how Medal of Honor Allied Assault is one of the best and most important games in history and the founder of this highly scripted and cinematic style of gaming that COD employs to this day, but again forgotten by history and gamers.

Stop talking like console gamers are different than PC gamers. This isn't a console forum.

Up until around 2010 the only think PC's and console had in common was that they all played games. Pretty much everything else evolved in a different direction. Different games, different genres, different input schemes, etc.

Is nothing an acceptable answer? I mean looking back at 2007, we saw gems like Super Mario Galaxy, Halo 3, Assassin's Creed, Uncharted and Civ 4. There really hasn't been anything done so amazingly spectacular that tops these games, let alone something that would blow someone's mind. This thread actually makes me cringe and think to myself, "man that's all the industry has done in 10 years?"
Exactly. Especially the mobile responses. We've had ten years of the iPhone and mobile is in a horrible state.

It may not be for you but mobile gaming has made leaps and bounds since 2007. Remember the App Store didn't launch until 2008. The biggest games on Mobile in 2007 were games such as Bush Vs Kerru boxing and the like. In the last decade we have seen multiple mobile titles that have become cultural phenomenons to the point where some even got ad placement on the Super Bowl.

This is to say nothing of ports of old console and arcade games. There was a thread yesterday announcing that Double Switch, a Sega CD game, was now being sold in the App Store. That just wouldn't of been possible ten years ago.

Damn didn't remember BF looking so poorly and this is with bullshot IQ (or PC), this is a great example.
That map Gibraltar looks poor as is because of the piss filter. Otherwise it looks pretty ok even today. It was a transitional game in terms of tech, had bits and pieces of 6th gen and some bits from 7th gen.

BF 2142 had a LOT of jank though, getting stuck because your character encountered a surface that's 5 inches higher than the surface you are on, can only run straight, jerky animations. Some of it still exists today in BF1 but most of it is gone and it's so much better to play it, then there are the advancements made in terms of UI and playability.

Gears of War is similar, you play Gears 1 and then play Gears 4 and tell me if you can honestly say it's just the same game with better graphics. Refinements in playbility, removing jank, making the flow smoother, options in game modes all of these matter and are gameplay advancements because they all work together to make a game thst plays better and fells better while building around the additional features.

Which is why to say we only have better graphics compared to games those days is an ignorant comment.
