That's cool, I get where you're coming from. I think (hope) that most in this thread are evaluating the designs based on their own merit rather than some Gen. 1 > All bias. But perhaps I'm giving too much benefit of the doubt.

Thats what many are sadly doing though.

I mean at the end of the day it's still their opinion and they can do whatever they want, but it does become heavily annoying if those opinions are treated as facts and as proof that the quality of the designs are declining when most of the more popular criticisms (inanimate object for example) can be applied to some of their favorites too.

It annoys me that many Pokémon discussions have gone to the gutter because of the derail with "OMG all generations after the one I played last suck"...

Magnezone is a pretty damn unlikable creation. The only thing that ruins it's unknown-ness is its appearance on the Stadium-stage in Smash Bros.

I was really pissed when I learned this was an evolution of Magneton.... Just a couple months ago.

IMO, that one is on par with Magneton.

People actually like Magneton? At least with Magnezone they tried.

That's what I meant last page when I was getting into my whole 'unmerited opinion' schtick. I don't think it's wrong or bad to think that Barbaracle's design is ugly as sin, or even that it's a bad design because it's ugly (although I love him for it). but it's a whole nother thing to insinuate that a design is lazy, or uninspired, or straight up stupid, when it turns out you're not even aware of that Pokemon's design inspirations or its realworld/folkloric basis to begin with. which happens often.
Like if someone who had somehow never seen a duck before, trashed Psyduck's design because "it's pikachu with a ping pong paddle for a face! runnin out of ideas m8"... Personally I think that Barbaracle is one of the more clever Gen VI Pokemon. It's just a loose coalition of goose barnacles that aren't even neurologically linked. They all just take orders from the big one in the middle because it's the toughest. When this design first leaked I sure as hell didn't like it but I gained an appreciation for it after seeing its goofy ass animations and after coming to understand what it was.

Is Tynamo really less well known than Eelektrik? I think it's really cool because it looks different from its two evolutions (Eelektross is Eelektrik with dumb arms) while also making a decent amount of sense, because lancelets and lampreys are both on the "primal" end of the chordatas, although obviously lampreys are appropriately farther down the line for an evolution.

I think Eelektrik is a top candidate for least popular though, since it's a middle evo in an unpopular line that evolves into something similar looking. That whole line would be so cool if it didn't end with such an ugly final form. We need more Pokemon based on weirdo animals! Sea squirt Pokemon that loses its brain as it evolves when?

Honestly surprised so many people are saying Huntail and Gorebyss though. I guess because they were pretty well hidden? But that's what makes them so cool...

Gen 6 was awesome, it only had like 2-3 designs i didn't like unlike gen 5 which had many bad designs in my opinion. XY is ranking very high design-wise for me.

And this is kind of the type of thread where people will cherrypick the least appealing designs out of a given set anyway. Don't know why people see fit to let the worst in a gen represent entire gens, but it's certainly nothing new.

Every generation's got perceived stinkers but I'd say it's especially unfair to act as though they're representative of any given gen... when they're the only frame of reference you've got for said gens in the first place. I think that I could make Gen 4 and before look like complete ass to the uninitiated just by selectively picking images of those Pokemon I listed and erroneously making the case that they are par for the gen.

Simisear seems pretty obvious in retrospect with the way folks here really dislike the trio, but I kind of figured they were more appreciated in Japan. Funnily enough he's my favourite of the three and I went out of my way to use it in my first playthrough

You do know that each generation's Pokédex isn't every single Pokémon. Usually there's ~200 Pokémon missing overall in each game.

Removing forever is just ridiculous and having designs altered is silly too. There is absolutely no reason to permanently remove any Pokémon.

Honestly OP is probably pretty close. Even the total losers like Sunkern (worst BST period) and bidoof have ironic fans and a few people who genuinely love them for being terrible (is that still ironic?). Yes, trash bag, ice cream, and gears too (well, gears are kinda cute anyway).

Ironically Klefki is OP so definitely not in the running here. Though it's probably one of the most hated (not necessarily the same as least popular--lots of people hate popular things)

I just started pokemon Y after not playing any pokemon games in a long time. I can't get over how ugly some of the new pokemons are like Binacle. Nearing grotesque. Also that Gurdurr, a clown on steroids that's actually holding a girder. That pokemon could kill anything if it swung that thing like a bat.

I feel like we're going as bit off course here considering the least known Pokemon, as opposed to 'least popular'. I reckon the least popular Pokemon needs to be somewhat forgettable, sure, but it needs to also have something about it that people would actually dislike too. And since most people dislike unnecessary evolutions and prevolutions of Pokemon, I'm going to offer own suggestion:

Rhyperior, the evolution of the middle-of-the-road first gen Pokemon Rhydon, who manages to not fit at all in to the previous evolution line, with a gaudy colour scheme and pointless hexagon pattern.

Close runner up:

Mantyke: The pointless 4th gen pre-evolution of the already pretty forgettable Mantine.
