Again, the President of Finland

rubbing a ginger's head for luck, ay?

I tried it out, really disappointing. It was basically as if I was sitting front row in a movie theater and had to move my head to see other parts of the screen. If I went too far for any one direction I got the black borders etc. It was kinda cool how the women looked 20 feet tall though.

Jaded? Nah. Completely pragmatic.

FFXV's showing on the later days at E3 impressed me enough to get on board. I'm definitely interested. But it's pragmatic to keep ones expectations below the map, especially for a game that is being touted as Japan's Duke Nukem Forever, in the off chance that you don't get burned.

I feel the same way about The Last Guardian. It could be good but it could also be a stinker based off its troubled development history.

Detroit looks fascinating to me. Something truly new, and is my third game of the show after Zelda and FFXV.

God of War, Horizon;etc I've played enough of those type of games to know I won't like those.

The best stuff on Sony's block weren't even showed at their conference. Stuff like Nier Automata.

The older you get, the more frugal and pragmatic you get with your buying choices. But a lot of gaf is BUY, BUY, BUY, where you have to like every single type of game. Despite my hand waving of Kojima's game for instance, I'm actually interested in it. But a boring CGI concept trailer of a naked man on a beach doesn't do much for me beyond giving me some man eye candy (which I admittedly liked a lot).

My initial post was a response to the idea that Sony unanimously "won" E3. For my tastes, I found Nintendo's lineup more enticing and will be using my 3ds a lot in the next year. That doesn't make me jaded. It makes me capable of separating what I like from what everyone else is hyping and not wasting my money. Wasting my money, now that's what makes me jaded.

Uh, you're buying Monster Hunter and Zelda and FFXV but you don't think you'll like Horizon... even though Horizon takes heavy inspiration from MH and inspiration from the same open world RPGs that Zelda and FFXV are inspired by.

You never watched the E3 demo, did you?

I mean, I liked the Horizon demo from what I played but saying someone should like something because it's derivative of other games isn't a strong point in its favour.

I have been a sony fan since ps1, sony is so dear to me so im going to be biased.

Because i grew up with sony, i associate most old franchises with sony, to me metal gear solid, final fantasy, resident evil are sony games.

Same thing with nintendo

So to me xbox lost but here is why, and here is what i would like them to do, because i would really like to buy a xbox.

-xbox slim is cool but i think it makes more sense to drop one if your console is selling well like the ps4, your main focus should be on games, not console or ui improvement.

-for the past couple of e3 xbox keeps bringing their main 3 (halo-forza-gears) while they are good it becomes redundant and they lose their value.

Sony doesnt show god of war or uncharted yearly, they keep mixing things up.

-make your own exclusives dont make known franchises exclusive to ur console, (sony is guilty of that with stv)

-invest in japanese games, america is still a big market for them.

-build trust with customera by delivering on games promised or hyped. Xbox showed trailers of phantom dust and fable legends on the big staged and ended up canceling them, i got hyped for recore last e3 only to be let down by how under funded and rough it looked this year. Killer instinct quality went down when it was passed to another studio to continue working on it after release.

-i dont know but project scorpio feels like a (look here we got one too) kind of announcement. Because not long ago phil Spencer said he is against the idea of a mid generation stronger console release, he said he would rather make a brand new console for next gen yet here he is announcing the scorpio a year and a half before, thats the problem with Microsoft, they just dont seem genuine and thats why its hard for people to trust them.

Horizon Zero Dawn won E3 for me personally once again, two years in a row. Game looks more amazing every time I see it, seriously stoked to play it next February. It's gonna be rough trying to split time between Horizon & Persona 5 for me, but I'll make it work somehow.

Except he said:

Monster Hunter is a game series where there's little dialogue. Your reasoning for taking down monsters is to skin them, get loot, make new armor, take on new monsters with said armor, repeat. It's to take on new challenges with about a dozen different move sets and style of play as possible. It also has a friend component.

Horizon from what I saw is a guided open world game. It has Monster Hunter inspired large monsters to fight but it's not Monster Hunter in terms of design or loop. From what I saw it's another open world game placing emphasis on things that no longer interest me. Its Mass Effect styled dialogue wheel doesn't appeal to me in the least.

Comparing MH to Horizon doesn't stick with me, and saying that I should like Horizon because it has big dinosaur mechs to fight makes no sense and completely disregards why I like Monster Hunter (combat depth, slow and methodical controls where every hit matters, loot, customization, co-op).

For me it was Nintendo with Zelda, and I did not expect to say that a week ago. I knew they had been talking Zelda up, but I just couldn't believe they would change things so drastically. After 4 straight days of watching all the footage I can, I'm still finding new things to do in that game, and this is only 2% of the world. I still can't believe Nintendo did it. Yes, if you look at each individual mechanic, there's nothing that truly has never been done before. But all of it mixed together, working so fluidly, and with seemingly no bugs is staggering. I can see how this game might not grab everyone, but holy shit I cannot wait for it. It looks like my dream.

As for Sony, they did have a really good conference, but not everything grabbed me. Horizon looks sick as fuck, and it's kinda cool that this and Zelda will probably come out within a month or so of each other. Horizon looks like it has a similar base with Zelda, and then went the RPG route where Zelda went action-adventure. Which is great, really excited for Horizon. God of War looked cool too, but didn't completely sell me. It made me more interested in GoW than I have ever been before, and I'll keep an eye on it. TLG just got a teaser, but a teaser with a release date is about the only thing they really could've done. They needed to just say this game is coming out on this date, and they did.

Kojima shit was weird but interesting. RE7 didn't really grab me. I need to see more of Farpoint before I say anything. Maybe Days Gone has a good floor demo, but that conference demo completely unsold me on that game. I'm not big on David Cage games, and then there's FFXV. I've seen cool shit of FFXV and I'm gonna get it, but that demo was probably the worst E3 demo I've ever seen. At least other trainwrecks are sometimes funny, this one was just boring.

So I get why people say Sony won, they had a great lineup, just didn't really grab me. I have a PC, so I thought most of MS stuff was cool. Sea of Thieves looks great. But I have to give it to Zelda, that game is still blowing my mind

That’s a bit dismissive. God of War and Horizon both have incredible potential. Definitely part of the new wave of gaming, but I dunno, I embrace the narrative driven story telling aspects of games just as much as the gameplay focused stuff from Nintendo. Been playing since Sega master system, and I really appreciate both. Horizon in particularly is getting praised for it’s fun gameplay though, looks like it’s going to deliver a fun experience to me.

But yeah, it might not be your taste, but I think it’s easy to see how Sony entertained a wide variety of people. Outside of Zelda, they probably have the most talked about games from E3. I think its easy to see why many would say they won.

I was pretty impressed by a slew of games across various consoles. I've been gaming for a good while (20+ years), so I don't dismiss games just because they're on a console that isn't my preference, thats petty. If a game looks good, it looks good.

Nioh I liked a lot, Reminds me of Onimusha.

Zelda, as I've said before, looks fantastic. Hope its like MM.

ReCore is going to be a sleeper hit.

Sea of Thieves, while I'm not sure what its larger objective is, looks to an authentic recreation of a pirate's life.

Days Gone, I hoped it was in the same universe as The Last Of Us, but I'm happy it is it's own thing.

Scalebound, man. I was disappointed. I didn't know what I expected, maybe a DMC-lite ARPG. Not like that, though.

SMT4 (I just checked the trailer), thats an early Persona game, reminds me a lot of DDS, which I was enchanted by. Beastly.

GoW4, jeez. That was something else. The dialog, the personality and relationship between father and son. I can't wait to see how it ties into the previous games.

Nier: Automata, just hand it over, you already know.

Spider-Man, at first I thought it was SP* developed, but it intrigues me none-the-less.

As previously stated, Death Stranding gave me feels, not only because of the absolutely gorgeous Norman Reedus (Hubba Hubba), but bond between man and baby, so close to Father's Day. I can't wait.

Horizon, of course, needs no explanation. Exceptional.

Persona 5. It making me forget about FFXV. Thank you, Atlus.

FH3, looks to continue with their excellence.

Haven't watched The Last Guardian yet, but I expect to be disappointed, based on previews. I hope I'm wrong.

Detroit: Become Human, even though I haven't played (much) of Heavy Rain, I trust David Cage, especially now that he has hired actual writers.

Resident Evil 7, thank goodness PT lives on through someone. Thank goodness.

Theres much, much more, but I think that's enough.

The winner was definitely
the Guy Eating A Turkey Leg
. Best in show, for sure.

Sony hands down, they had everything this year, the pacing, the games, great exclusives and Kojima + Spiderman.

Microsoft did a better job than last year but the pacing of their conference was awful, Gears of War 4 and FH3 looks to be the only good games they shown too.

Zelda was mind blowing though but I won't buy a console for only one game, hope the NX will deliver.

So you think you don't loot the mechs for parts to make new items/weapons/armors in Horizon even though it's clear in the demo that you do. You also think there isn't variety in ways to take enemies in Horizon even though we've already seen different types of arrows as well as traps for enemies (e.g. exploding rope and the item that exploded when shot).

Yeah, I'm going with my gut instinct on you.

I went to sleep Monday night after Sony's incredible conference, thinking "I can't wait for Zelda tomorrow, but there's absolutely no way Nintendo can top what I just saw."

I couldn't have been more wrong. It's only been within the last 24 hours or so that I've even thought about another game, because Zelda completely took over my entire E3 week.

So, for me, Nintendo won and it's not even close.

I don't think Microsoft is getting any credit because they pretty much announced they have no exclusives anymore. So, if you vote for Microsoft for getting all these cool games coming out on PC, why wouldn't that vote go towards PC instead? PC has a better showing than Microsoft because they kept winning after their conference. I don't really even see the point in buying an Xbox, if they really have the plan to come out with a new console every other year BS. Just build a PC and upgrade through time, it would be more cost effective that way. I know the argument is that consoles are plug and play and in PC you have to download X and install whatever it is, but man, I'm not going to dish out $500 every 2 years when I can buy the game elsewhere.

I don't even own a PC, have no idea what TFLOP, TERAFLOP (Triceratops belly flop?), or whatever the fuck it's called is, but looks like I'll have to learn to play Microsoft games.

LOL

Not every game is going to be for everybody, but acting like games that don't interest you are garbage tier or beneath you is incredibly stupid.

I'm not a Gears of War fan, but those games are pretty awesome (I've only played the first 3, and while they aren't my cup of tea in most areas, they are wonderful third person shooters, and Horde mode is a blast to play).

Just because a game exists doesn't mean you have to love it. Maybe it's me getting older, but I know what genres interest me, and what don't. I'll always try a game that looks intriguing, but I'm not going to shit on someone else's enjoyment of a game or series that I don't enjoy.

Zelda is one game. It looks amazing, but I learned a long time ago to not buy a console for just one game. I'm going to hold out until Nintendo shows me more games I'm interested in before I take that plunge. I grew up on the NES in the 80's, so I have a special place in my heart for the company. But at 36, I'm interested in other types of experiences, and PlayStation and PC have given me experiences that Nintendo haven't. Sony has always tried to appeal to an older crowd. It was really the only recourse they had to combat the juggernaut that was Nintendo in the 90's.

In the 20+ years Sony has been in the industry, they've come into their own in that respect. They know their audience, and they know the types of games their audience is interested in playing. Their E3 press conference focused almost exclusively on that audience. They have titles for all ages, but they know who butters their bread, as does Nintendo. Both companies have strong Japanese support, but Sony edges Nintendo out when it comes to western developers.

I always like to have both a Nintendo and Sony platform in my home, but the Wii U didn't appeal to me. I'm hoping their new system does. In the meantime, I get my Ninty fix from my 3DS, and it complements my Vita. Basically, what I'm trying to say is don't be an asshole because somebody is enjoying something you aren't, or vice versa. It's just video games.

For me, Sony showed more games that appealed to me, but that doesn't mean the other companies titles were trash.

Servers stayed up during the whole period, so obviously everything was shit
