Mushishi S2 2

Amazing episode. Having the mushy being more a portent of disaster than the bringer of the disaster was a great touch and let the simple tale about community and trust really shine. And yes that last shot with the mushy taking flight was absolutely breathtaking.

A diary - a simple and elegant solution for a simple and elegant show. Honesty is at the forefront, and I really loved the karaoke box sequence. A nice little show to have on Sundays.

Haikyuu 2:
That jump serve looked so amazing. It was definitely the big impact moment of the episode. I'm impressed with the visual flair which the first two episodes have had. There's definitely a lot of care being put into this adaptation.

Hinata and Kageyama's rivalry so far is pretty good. It's interesting to see the two main rivals having to work together because they're teammates. A lot of the scenes with them bickering were pretty funny, and towards the end of the episode we start to get a better understanding for Kageyama's motivations for playing the sport. I hope the two of them can work together well enough to at least prove themselves in this practice match.

A cute show, but it requires patience, as it's really slow-paced and laid back.
I do feel that we were robbed a bit by not getting to hear her sing.

Kind of bland, I guess. I hate the main character's design. I do like the concept though. Will watch at least a bit more.

Black Bullet 01

Some pretty neat concepts and liked the execution so far. Cringed a bit when sensei ate the purple sludge, what was even in that? I'm not sure I can handle two shows at once that have a female sidekick that wants to bang the protag but cannot for obvious moral reasons (this and Mahouka).

Bokura wa Minna Kawaisou 02

Still pretty funny and endearing. Not sure I like the newest character so far, her personality seems a bit confused. Maybe that'll clear up in the next bit.

Captain Earth 02

Fantastic! Mech design is cool, battle was about as good it could be with him not knowing how to pilot the thing. The regulators are assholes and I loved the protag's response. No whining, no inner turmoil, he just did what he felt needed to be done. So awesome.

Haikyuu!! 01

I was in awe while watching this. My only other experience with sports anime being Baby Steps (described earlier), this was much better than I was expecting. Animation was superb, characters were likable and I want to follow them more. Let's hope the rest is as good!

Hitsugi no Chaika 01

Unicorn creature was awesome, I loved it, same with the fight scene with it. Great opener. I like the girl's way of talking but it really annoyed my friend who was watching, haha. Main character's hair is god damn stupid, I was hoping it would at least get fixed with his transform. Cast is pretty likable and I enjoyed the first 'mission' being something other than your typical escort, fight brigands or villain blah blah.

Jojo 02

That opening was pure hype, as was the episode. I forgot how gruesome this series could get (also lol'd at Jotaro's "She'll be fine" for the nurse as she lay in a puddle of blood). Stand battles are crazy inventive already, which is a good sign for me. I like the sort of 'disconnect' between what the user and stand is doing, and that they're not just completely synced.

Mekaku City Actors 01

Weird but good in a crazy sort of way. A little reminded of watching Kyousogiga, so gonna see where this one leads.

Atelier Escha and Logy - 1

Wow, so this came out of nowhere!

I loved this. I've never played an Atelier game before, but I liked every minute of this. The atmosphere of this show felt really relaxing and calm all around. I can't remember the last time I saw a show in fantasy setting with that kind of atmosphere.

Escha is super adorable, and Logy looks like he just walked out of the character creator in Fire Emblem Awakening (seriously, what the hell).

I'm definetly going to continue this. I think I may have my show of the season that's not Fairy Tail.

Haikyuu - 02

Another great episode, a couple of scenes made me laugh which rarely happens for me in anime. The relationship of the main duo is pretty interesting, and it'll definitely be interesting to watch it evolve, plus the supporting cast seems great too, it already seem better than Yowamushi Pedal fir instance (which I like, but not this much).
The show also looks great, the character designs have a certain uniqueness to them, and the animation is pretty good, can't wait to see some games.

All these sport shows, god damn, shit's so addictive, it's hard to resist reading the manga.

Nope, I'm still lost on this show. It's get more confusing when they try to explain it but it gets worse when new convoluted nonsense pops up.

Daichi seems to be a clueless idiot to me and rubs me off in a wrong way. Am I watching the same show as you guys?

Are you saying you don't want to see the boomerang?

The worst part of this is that the butt shot doesn't even make sense since the characters don't see her from behind when they first meet her. So it's literally a male gaze shot for the audience. (Yet, this show is clearly for girls who want boys to fuck each other's brain's out, so I don't even know who that serves. Maybe it's like she's a reverse-harem protagonist?)

Anyway, I was wondering what this show would turn out to be and it's so obvious now after the fact:
6KvNjiKl.png

Having already watched OoFuri, I think I'm out. I suppose the show itself isn't bad per se, but it's your sportsy-ass sports show, and I don't think I care enough about volleyball to sit through the OoFuri arc again.

I have been watching Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood and I have to say I really like it. I saw the original show back in the day and it was good but this one is better in pretty much in every way possible. I especially like how much more they showing Amestris.

Despite the target is definitely fujoshi, these sport mangos always serialized on boys magazine, just connect the dots lol.

One Week Friends 2:
I'm surprised by how much things moved forward in this episode. Even despite everything, Fujimiya and Hase seem to be doing okay for themselves, and even came up with a potentially interesting situation, even if it doesn't work out quite as well as Hase had hoped. Despite Fujimiya's apparent coldness to others, she's actually a pretty kind person who somehow hasn't become bitter from everything she has to deal with.

I thought it was an interesting touch how
she suspected she might have become friendly with someone during the previous week because she couldn't remember eating lunch at all.
I'm really curious to see how the two of them continue to progress in this relationship. While this show can hit you with strong emotions, so far it's also managed the difficult task of balancing out sadness and happiness surprisingly well. It's simple and elegant, and the show has a nice sort of healing touch when you watch it. I hope they can continue putting out such a great show (not just in the writing department, but also both visually and with the music), because right now this is absolutely the standout show of the season, and probably the most heartfelt show since Bunny Drop.

It's really been ten years since Scrapped Princess? Oh dear, feeling old etc. etc. I suppose it reflects the prevailing trends of anime fetishism that instead of a relatively chesty whiny klutz as a lead, this show has a albino little girl who can barely speak...

With that said, I was quite surprised at how much I enjoyed this episode. It's standard fantasy stuff, yes, but I appreciated its slightly dry sense of humour and the generally well-animated action sequences. It has a very "no nonsense" feel to it thus far which I appreciated; it's obviously not humourless, but the show wastes no time on being dramatic and (sort of) exciting, with hints at something bigger going on in the background. If it wasn't for all the "anime-isms" - the bread scene, the sillly designs for the antagonistic minions etc. - I would have no reservations about sticking with this long-term.

Speaking of the bread scene, what impressed me up to the point that she slopped dough all over herself was that, even though the siblings were having a conversation designed entirely around exposition, the direction and animation kept things interesting. We didn't just get shots panning up and down them as they talked - they kept preparing for the battle ahead, or Chaika was making bread, etc. etc. It was a far better way to handle such a scene than most shows bother with.

One wonders why, when the evil lord can do magic by just waving his hands around, Chaika has to lug a bloody great gun everywhere with her. It was impractical enough when Suou in Darker Than Black 2 could materialise it out of thin air, but I guess without the gun we'd have no coffin to give the show its title...

The character designs in this show are so weird. Everyone just has a single strangely cartoony feature in otherwise typical anime art. Ei-chan's hair, bro's nose, Takuma's eyebrows. I dunno.

Anyway, fairly typical second episode, but it was enjoyable. Ei-chan's training and getting obsessive, and we've already got a romantic rival! Oh no! You got this Ei-chan, just slash him with your hair.

My biggest complaint, that rooster hair is the most awful hair that I seen, its even worse than Jotaro's hair in the 2000's OVA
Again, I briefly noted his hair at the start of the episode after being reminded of the short bit of discussion here about it, but forgot about it as the episode continued.

Just like Momo in OoFuri I suppose. Although at least her breasts played a small role in one of the games they played.

Yeah, I'm sure this is fine, but this is sort of the other standard sports story to complement Haikyuu. As such, I noticed pointless background details that probably don't matter to anyone but me:
dwzb6I6l.jpg

This just seems crazy. Forgetting the noise that would make, the fact that people have a clear view into your room is ripe for creating so much anxiety. Keep those curtains closed I guess. lol

cNTevcil.jpg

I imagine if this was in America, no one would care. But apparently in Japan, if you stand around and start talking on your phone, people give you dirty looks. lol

You know, as for the show itself, I'm not really sure why I didn't find either of the sports shows engaging. I mean, sticking to anime itself for the moment, I did enjoy Giant Killing for the most part (even if the best story was the reporter storyline) and I thought Ginga e Kickoff was fine as well (and not just for Kobayashi). And let's not bring in Adachi because that just isn't fair.

I'm just not getting the same kind of spark from these shows as I did from those ones for some intangible reason. At this point, I hope Ping Pong doesn't evoke the same apathy from me next week.

Haikyuu 2

Really enjoying the rivalry between the main duo and the senpai's look like they'll be pretty great as well. The animation was still top notch as well so it looks like the first episode wasn't a fluke! Sticking with this one.

The Kawai Complex Guide 2

I liked this one much more than episode one. The main MC wasn't as much of a creepy stalker and his interactions with the other tenants were fun. Even Nagato stand-in main girl had more of a personality this episode!

One Week Friends 2

The amnesia setup is still kind of dumb but I love the laid back atmosphere of this and the two of them are adorable together. Will stick around for more.

Firehawk, buddy, pal, you're a great person, but if you're going to keep using multiple larger screencaps for episode impressions, do you know if you could enclose them in quotes so they don't take up quite as much space? I know there's no hard and fast rule about it but it feels like it's becoming the norm.

Life and Hometown can't be contained by mere quotes.

I think he is getting the dirty looks because he's blocking the way, talking in his phone just outside of the starway of the station.

It should be expected that a diary isn't gonna help a person remember but as a reminder but I gotta give Fujimiya the credit to determine to carry on writing until she remembers. Hopefully Hase also have the detemination to carry on making friends for her every week when its rather difficult/strenous/soul crushing to continue week after week.

If he doesn't, you don't really have a show, do you? Unless they spend huge long story arcs pairing them up with different people until they find each other again at the end of the series. I'm not sure what else they can do with the premise - it seems like the kind of story that is ideally suited to them doing something different and fun each week before the memory reset.

Hnng, this show is really sweet. The interactions between the two leads are really well executed, makes it easy to get into it and makes it feel for them more when it resets every week. Or perhaps not! Diary isn't a perfect solution, but it's a start.

What can I say? Ef already done it lol This show is basically a retread minus the drama and stretching out the time spent together.

Not content with saving 2D mecha Bones sets out to save 2D Fighters.
This was better the second time round. Being able to actually SEE the sakuga certainly helped I reckon.

Really enjoying this so far. Silliness and all. I don't expect to fully understand what's going on any time soon though. Not impossible to follow so far though.
Also brown girl is best girl followed but that sneaky friend from ep 01.
I expect antics with those in the following episodes.
If anything him breaking the other kids from the facility is the setup for that.

Magical Girl Pretty Sammy TV 16

Best evil magical girl army ever. Pixy Misa just chilling on that heart bed while they did all the actual work fighting Sammy was great. As was her entrance, just laying in Sasami's bed waiting for her.

Things look bleak for Sammy. Either she'll get a power-up, or Rumiya will step in. Or both. Or something else.

Well, if you look at the wider shot, you see that there's A LOT of room around him that they could have used. Whether that's just bad art or not is another thing, I suppose. I just assumed people were mad at him for talking on his phone loudly. lol

No more amazeballs or other silly subbing from CR. Then again, when a girl literally
melts to death

But hey, there's Quadriplegic-moe for you sickos who are into that. lol

One Week Friends 2
I guess I'm starting to think about this too much, because the rules of the world are starting to break down for me. Like if she has fun in a class, but her classmates aren't necessarily her "friends", does she still remember what happened? What defines a friend that allows her brain to erase them from her memory? Why does her mother just accept this as normal? In the age of youtube diaries, why didn't she think to record herself, let alone write a diary? Why isn't a medical professional involved?
Hopefully they address some of this stuff, because I'm working hard to suspend by disbelief. lol

That said, this was neat:
A visual metaphor for losing memories of her lunches. She's literally washing away the last week of lunches after all, and a clean lunch box also means a clean slate in terms of her memory. I'm glad the director is thinking about these things at the very least.

I already scale them with imgur, so I'm not sure if quoting will make them that much smaller. But let me see how that goes.

Hapiness Charge Precure - 11
My face during this episode :

Ah precure , you really nailed it ...It's really on par to be a great season . 11 episode and it's still strong . i have no idea if they will manage to keep this up , but damn .. at this rate heartcatch will be surpassed.
If you think about it, it has already easily done more in 11 episodes than any other Precure. Simply putting out more of what it's been doing leaves us with a consistently enjoyable show in every episode, and it hasn't even really developed the plot threads it has started yet, something the director has shown himself perfectly capable of.

To me, it's no longer about how high this show can go in the Precure rankings, but how high it can go among all magical girl shows.
