I wouldn't get hyped for a revamped UI in iOS 6 because the new Maps is specially themed. Virtually every app is specially themed.

UI revamp is exactly what I wanted. iOS was a revelation five years ago, but WP7 blew me away just from an aesthetic and ease of use standpoint.

At this point, there is only so much more Apple can do with the hardware - bigger screen, better cameras, NFC, haptic touch, etc. - and those enhancements won't change the way you use the phone all that much.

A better user experience on the software end is 100x more important IMO than the physical casing that becomes more and more invisible once the sexy hardware honeymoon has passed.

I don't really think the core UI will change all that much.

iOS could use a bit of a visual refresh, but I'm not expecting a complete overhaul. Just some smaller tweaks to modernize it a bit like removing the "pinstripes" background in settings, switching the toolbar color from blue to gray, stuff like that.

They have to be really careful, because of all the apps that are designed around the core assets. Some devs may have gotten "creative", and any drastic change to the visual elements of the UI may clash. Badly.

Maps is one of my top five apps in terms of use on my iPhone. There a huge amount of progress that could be brought to the maps app, and it would have a major impact on me if done right.

iPad 1 surely too old to be getting another update, sigh. At least I'll take iPhone 3GS users with me. Sucks that someone who bought a touch today would be in the same place.

I can't wait for the meltdowns when there isn't a total iOS revamp.... i'm calling it people.

Yeah, chronic talking about UI revamp seems to be just talking about some minor changes. Kind of like how the "slider" switch changed from iOS 3 to iOS 4 (or was it 4 to 5?).

I don't know, given his statement "REALLY nice UI revamp" I think he's expecting something a bit more substantial than a slider swithcharoo.

I mean, I'm not expecting nor do I want a significant revamping of UI conventions or whatever; a nice little touch-up and paint job in a lot of areas would go a long way.

Pinstripes thankfully went away long ago in OSX. Maybe Apple can make up for bringing them back by making them go away again!

Apple needs to compete with Google on their navigation app. Googles turn by turn stuff is beyond amazing. It can tell me what bus-stop I need to get off of, how long it will take, what the bus is called and everything I could ever need.

Apple needs to meet thatpppp and make it work with Siri.

Photo sharing, videos, and web apps for notes and reminders in iCloud.

The maker of the iPhone and iPad is preparing a big upgrade to its online service iCloud that includes new photo-sharing features, according to people familiar with the matter.

The new features, likely to be announced at Apple's world-wide developer conference beginning June 11, will allow iCloud users to share sets of photos with other iCloud users and to comment on them, these people said. Currently, users can only store one set of photos in iCloud through a feature called Photo Stream, which is designed to sync those photos to other Apple devices, not share them.

Apple is trying to better compete in the red-hot market for photo sharing, dominated by fast-growing online services such as Facebook Inc. and mobile apps like Instagram—which Facebook has agreed to acquire for $1 billion.

The Cupertino, Calif., company is also working on a new feature that will allow iCloud users to sync their personal videos via iCloud, these people said, adding that Apple also plans to allow users to access "Notes" and "Reminders"—two of its apps for jotting down quick thoughts—through iCloud.com. Currently, those items have to be accessed via apps for those features.

These features are also expected in Apple's next mobile-phone operating system, iOS 6, which Apple is planning to preview to developers in June, the people said.

They used to have some type of Photosharing with MobileMe, right?

Video sync would be pretty useful for watching recorded video on iPad and AppleTV, I guess. They might as well put up a video sharing service, which they could also add to iMovie. And an iWork sharing service.

Ping.

I'm really hoping they re-do the way App Updating works - it's currently by far the biggest frustration I have with iOS.

Specifically, the way in which any update causes the entire application to be re-downloaded rather than having a patch applied. It's especially fun when you have the likes of Infinity Blade and Chaos Rings installed, as my iPhone often complains it doesn't have enough room to download updates.

I'd like to see background updating/installation of apps too...

Background downloading would be the god damn best thing ever, that and turn by turn navigation for apps.

The dream would be Windows 8 splitting of windows allowing for side by side views.

It's too easy to turn Photo Stream on on my Apple TV. I don't want random guests to be able to look at cock pics from Grindr :(

iOS 6 is codenamed 'Sundance,' Siri for iPad is reasonably likely, as well as the big enhancements to iCloud and Maps that everyone's been talking about. Also, iTunes 11 might finally be a full rewrite of the program.
We're talking desktop, right? Just making sure, because that would be absolutely fucking killer if they finally made iTunes NOT shit.

It's probably always going to be shit on Windows because on Windows they pretty much absolutely need to pack all of those functions into a single program. The Mac OS X version, though, can and should separate itself into multiple applications, and syncing services should become something that runs entirely within the OS and doesn't require any application to be open (with legacy iTunes support retained for Windows and older versions of Mac OS, of course). iCloud is a huge step forward in this regard, but goddamn iTunes is so insanely bloated.

Saw that post on the verge, and I liked it up until a point. First of all, it lacks continuity in being something we would realistically see from Apple. Specifically the spotlight bar not always being present up top. Secondly, having to pass the music section under there to get to settings? And not to mention segregated options/toggles above and below? Yeah, no. Apart from that and the excessive page dots, everything else seems pretty nice.

iOS needs to start diverging depending on the device, namely iPad. I want exposé/mission control NAO. I could totally see it in my mind's eye, too. Switcher is so stupid on such a large screen; wasted potential.
I was devastated when the iPad was revealed without Dashboard. It makes ridiculous sense, and counters Android's widgeting funtime.

It won't happen. We will get more iteration and fine-tuning.

[edit] Blue was a great choice because it worked with the OS X of the time and looked a lot better than Windows Mobile's garish color schemes. However, it doesn't really match the black-and-silver decour of Apple devices. I welcome the gray!

Apple Inc. (AAPL) is preparing a new lineup of thinner MacBook laptops running on more powerful chips made by Intel Corp. (INTC), people with knowledge of the plans said.

The MacBook Pro machines, to be unveiled at Apple’s annual developers conference starting June 11, also will feature high- definition screens like those on the iPhone and iPad, as well as flash memory to cut startup times and extend battery life, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the plans haven’t been made public.

Apple’s Mac sales are growing faster than the personal- computer market, benefiting from the popularity of its mobile devices. Since 2007, when the iPhone was introduced, Apple’s Mac sales have more than doubled, reaching $21.8 billion last year. As Apple’s share has grown, competitors such as Hewlett-Packard Co. (HPQ), Dell Inc. (DELL) and Samsung Electronics Co. have followed suit in making thinner, aluminum laptops that start up more quickly.

Apple’s new laptops will run on Intel’s new processors, code-named Ivy Bridge, and will have a slimmed-down body design from the current 0.95-inch thickness, the people said.

Bill Evans, a spokesman for Cupertino, California-based Apple, declined to comment, while Chuck Mulloy, a spokesman for Intel, referred questions to Apple.

Apple shares fell 1.5 percent to $558.22 at the close in New York. The stock has risen 38 percent this year.

Thought I should cross-post this, but it's already been turned into a Jailbreak. That was fast! The turnaround time from concept to actuality in the JB community is awesome, lol. Anyway;

I think I might buy it.[/QUOTE]

It's not a bad idea. However I don't like the order of the app history. It should be like this

5 6 7 8
1 2 3 4

Not

1 2 3 4
5 6 7 8

Most recent should be bottom left corner, like it is currently.

disagree. While it might be closest to your left thumb, the top-left one is closest to the real iphone screen, therefore seems to me to be the most recent one that got 'pushed down' into the dock

I want
- stop auto-layout of icons on the homescreens. Let me put icons wherever I like, I might want some space between them thanks.
- widgets that all apps can use (apps can make them a multiple of the icon grid like in android). I can put these wherever I want like with icons - homescreens, notification screen or lockscreen
Those two above would basically let me set up a custom homescreen when I'm at work, and one for when I'm at home etc.

- auto updating apps (selectable per app like notifications, so I can ignore apps I don't use that often or are data hogs).
- change updates to incremental patches rather than redownload the entire app again (helps with auto-updates)
- analog bluetooth game pad support. Official game controller API. Whether apple also bring out their own controller or just let 3rd parties do it, I don't care.
- let me share my icloud info with at least other icloud users (so eg I can see my wife's photo stream)
- on/off toggles for data (bluetooth/wifi/cell) from the multitasking screen or notifications menu - somewhere
- more a computer than ios thing, but let me airprint via a computer, like they had but removed. I'm using an OSX app to let me do this, but official support would be good.
- likewise, official ability to airplay to a computer -bring out OSX and Win7 clients. Let us play videos on our computers. Again, I'm using an OSX app for this but built in support would be good.

oh and a way to delete default apps (just put something in Settings to restore, kind of like how you can install Twitter from Settings), I'm so sick of voice notes and stocks taking up space
