Xbox One Tour - Highly disappointed in system and graphics

The best summation of Gaf I have ever seen

Looser, not loose. And I only held the controller, I didn't play a game. People that have played games with it say it allows for more precision and less of a dead zone.

I'll take the word of people that have actually held the thing then. I've always liked the resistance but if the new looser sticks genuinely improve precision while eliminating deadzone then thanks for the heads up.

I would imagine anyone disappointed in Xbox One visuals will also be disappointed with PS4 visuals.

Hey, lets be thankful this next gen will likely be free from sub-HD games that are below native 720p.

I'll be buying a PS4 first and Xbox One when it's $399. I almost never side with one console over the other. I end up owning them all. For me it's only a matter of when I buy a console and what games I get for any given platform.

Both have games I want and both will have games I'll want down the road.

Again, it's totally possible. I've had similar all negative experiences on events such as this.

Events such as this are really poor places to get a great feel for the console. It's not particularly intimate, the conditions aren't always great, you're not necessarily playing the games you want. You don't really get the feel for the depth of things like the UI or Kinect functionality.

In all, the takeaway is simply events like this can foster extreme opinions in one direction or the other. That's always been true. Because of this, it's totally likely one can walk away from such an event with little if anything positive to say.

That you cannot conceive of this just says you have a very limited imagination since it's not even a particularly rare event.

I guess I'd ask this: Do you personally think the original post here was well-rounded?

If you do, that's interesting in its own way, but simply means you disagree with some here (like the person you're having the exchange with). If not, then to be honest, that would mean you do understand where that person is coming from, which is at odds with your comments in reaction.

I like to think your comments are well conceived, but this exchange has come off as being obtuse to no meaningful end (again, coming from my point of view that the write-up isn't particularly insightful or well-rounded). If you really think this was a good write-up, then disregard that reaction.

No, I don't think the impressions were particularly good at all. But like in your response a little bit ago, you described why you felt they were inadequate and acknowledged he added better detail later on. You described your feelings better about the quality of the impressions themselves.

I chose to focus on a pet peeve of mine only because I feel that is actually a persistent problem, not one set of bad impressions. Because even bad impressions, if the guy is at least attempting to explain himself, deserve fair consideration and not automatic rejection.

Maybe you already made up your mind when you play test.

They've used that technique to give the movement snap. You'll see it in the fighting sequences too. They've removed frames between preparing to slice/stab and the actual act of slicing/stabbing to give it impact. ND used the same technique in TLOU. Of course it also helps to maintain a decent framerate in fighting sequences.

So I'm guessing it is something else not being able to make it to launch that would be available as an accessory. The Play and Charge Kit?

how would that be negative news? who cares about a charge kit, people can use Eneloops and regular AA batteries. It's not like this will cripple the system.

I don't see why it would be the play and charge kit. I assume that's a very simple piece of kit.

Also, he says it's coming in the box, which kinda cancels that out. I think that it's related to headsets and that current headsets won't work with the X1. Or something similar.

The problems with the XBO remain persistent, and were not merely related to the DRM and such. They have remained since the 180s constant delays, changes to plans, alterations to promised features, significantly reduction in launch plans (to 13 countries), everything remains behind a paywall unlike its competitors, it still is forcing people to pay $100 extra for a device most don't want (and which is in no way justified by the launch content in any event, their Kinect flagship title being delayed to 2014), the constant misleading FUD regarding its power and PS4's. I can seriously write a book on the amount of PR fudge ups since the 180s. There is still PLENTY to hold Microsoft to task for.

And, for emphasis, even if none of that happened, they still would deserve the lack of trust. It's important to note that after Sony's 2006, it took them years to fully recover in the community and they nearly lost it all with the hacking scandal. What Microsoft attempted was infinitely worse than anything from Sony regarding consumer rights, and they continue to claim it was a problem with messaging, not intent. So now everyone buying the system has to be skeptical that they'd be lining their pockets so that they can fuck consumers with the next Xbox.

But the point is: Like Sony, it's going to take years to fully recover the trust they gained ovr the years. And it's only right. You can't say "its been months, get over it." Nobody should. When consumers get complacent, they get taken advantage of. Microsoft will deserve the extra scrutiny for some time and you should probably accept that and respond to why you disagree with any criticisms rather than get annoyed by "excessive hate."

In the end, it's up to you - I'm simply suggesting a path that might contribute to a healthier conversation when you're involved. And maybe we'd get somewhere, no?

Yeah, I agree with what you say. It might take years for some people. But im a simpler person. When the stuff doesn't do the things i want or need them to do, i just don't buy it anymore. But that's me. I vent about it and thats it. The thing i just don't understand (and does bother me) is why people insist on continuously disliking and hate on a product that they say they wont ever support when there's already another option out there that convinced them and they feel is already better and has been better ever since E3. You expect me to believe that NeoGaf is doing this for the better of the company? They have the greater good in mind? lol I dont buy that one bit.

Edit: Going to try it now. Will leave impressions lol.

jk

But not if they don't pack in a headset? Which they are by the way.

When I meant "done", I never meant not getting the system at some point. Just the bad news after bad news gets to a certain point where you can't even be sad/happy anymore. It just feels neutral, like it is expected.

It's totally cool for you to have got past the events from May 21. I'm not at all judging that, I think there is plenty of reasonable argument that the system deserves real consideration now. I am seriously getting more sold on getting it earlier rather than later due to a few key games, for example.

"NeoGAF" is not a hivemind, but if you are discussing on a case by case basis, of course the initial motivation is never 'the greater good.' It's always very selfish. My motivations for what I want out of my systems is also very selfish. But just because it's selfish doesn't mean those feelings don't coincide with a greater good, or aren't synonymous with a fight for certain types of consumer rights.

But I don't want earbuds. Earbuds are bad.

In one of his posts it looks like he was referring to the controller, though.

They're connected after all :)

And yes earbuds would be horrible, I love them on my bike or while I'm in the city, but not while I'm playing.
PS4 is already a big letdown for me there, still better then nothing.

I guess I'd ask this: Do you personally think the original post here was well-rounded?

.

What does well rounded even mean?
Does he have to find something nice to say to balance out every negative to not hurt the big corporations' (or their more loyal worshippers') feelings?

Some kind of reverse tsundere , "it's not like I hated it or anything."

It's not his job to do damage control, leave that to astroturfers, PR representatives and overinvested fanboys/fangirls:p

I'm kind of expecting this sort of response from most console gamers going into either next gen console. Law of diminishing returns, or whatever it is that shows how the better tech gets the less apparent the improvement is. PC gamers have been seeing tech get better slowly over the last 5 years. PCs today are running current gen games at next gen(-ish) performance and IQ. The improvements going into next gen aren't going to be as stark as going from SD to HD last gen. It'll be better FPS, better stability, slightly higher resolutions, improved dynamic effects, etc. I don't expect anyone will be very blown away the first time they fire up their Xbone or PS4.

Ah, totally. I understand you now. Honestly, well-executed reactions from people I disagree with overall tend to be the ones I find most useful. Without meaning to sound snide, I sort of hope the OP is taking notes, overall. I'd definitely check out a follow-up thread if he gets hands on time with PS4 (or more time with the XB1).

*wink wink, OP*

I also have a perverse need to protect those who share negative opinions on anything. I have been called negative on occasion ;)

But yeah, you get what I'm saying. It's not that the impressions were good (they weren't), it's that more people spent time focusing on the poster himself rather than describing why they weren't good.

In this situation, it means being willing to consider different points of view, rather than actively searching for ways to justify an existing viewpoint. That sort of thing comes across in the tone of the writing itself, as well.

The poster drew attention to his post history in the OP, it is fair game in that case.

7 pages. Amazing. At least we had a few hours where people got a chance to discuss the merits of a new Ryse trailer. Welp, back to normal I guess.
