New GTA V Trailers "MICHAEL. FRANKLIN. TREVOR."

I can see both Michael and Trevor going into rage-induced killing sprees for no particular reason. I don't see it for Franklin, tho...

Franklin wants out, will probably team up to buy his way out or find himself stuck with them.
Michael wants the rush, knows Trevor the dealer, but may be in for more than expected.
Trevor is the wildcard, that will prove to be actually very smart.

And they'll still give it a 10/10 for it's "oscar worthy story". Gaming journalism 101, be as negative as possible "in the end it's a master piece 11/10".
People easily forget how profoundly impressive GTA IV was when it came out (and still is).
It wasn't until people played it for 100 or so hours that they started to see it's flaws.

Go through the IV thread if you don't believe me.

I know being cynical is hip right now but it's getting a little old.

I'm feeling all the teams. Trevor will awesome most likely first. I kinda want to go gangbang again though :lol Rockstar so gooood. PC day 0 for sure.

Now I got to go spend all my moneys on strippers in SA.

Seriously, what is this shit? Are you trying to wipe some racism agenda off on me because some guy 9 years ago preferred the Mafia setting too?

I prefer 'Mafia' type of games, movies and shows over the 'Gang related' . If that isn't a legitimate opinion without opinion without it being race / colour related, then it's 100% pure bullshit.
Holy shit. PLEASE tell me you are quoting someone from the GTA:SA reveal period as some sort of in-joke. Literally everything your just said was said a thousand times before when they revealed a single image of the main character in San Andreas.

But I liked GTA4. Oscar worthy story it was not.

I don't get this. I don't get this at all. What does this have to do with San Andreas? It was a discussion that now arose ( Again, apparently ) in the thread regarding the two organized crime types, preferring one of them makes you a racist apparently as it's an extremely touchy subject and saying you prefer one makes you dislike black people, except there's about 100 nationalities that are member of gangs around the world. I feel the same way about MC clubs and all that crap, oh god there's white people in those, I must hate white people too.

Apparently it's one of those things you shouldn't voice your opinion on in terms of preference when it comes to movies and games.

Cool. I'm assuming you said the same thing when The Lost and Damned was announced.

Team Trevor!

Michael seems a bit cliche Mafioso.

Franklin is gang-banger cliche.

But crazy old hilly-billy drug dealer? That seems interesting.

interesting how far we have come
GTA sure gets fans heated, I love the 3 characters thing sad to see that most people want to fall into camps for a single favorite and hate for another. We don't even know how the stories will play out yet smh

this game looks much more complex than I expected cannot wait to see more

I probably did. I had a hard time getting through the game, it improved on the gameplay and missions but the story and characters were cringeworthy.

But I doubt that changes anything, eh.

Too niche a pop culture reference. P90X would be the better choice. Either way though it's still just a graphical veneer for a QTE. You may as well be doing bench press or on the treadmill back in the Los Santos gym.

P90x, Insanity...All in the same boat. I'm imagining a room full of people getting ready for a course like shown before, with a spoof of the one of those guys leading the way. To me, that would be an awesome mini-game with the guy being the opposite of inspirational if you keep fucking up the buttons.

analyze this/sopranos flipped mafioso cliche on it's head when it introduced therapy and family issues to the scene.

and now that's become a cliche too. full circle

Yeah, but that was one of my problemas with GTA 4. His behaviour on story missions were often justified and tragic, but then, if you wanted to just murder people in the street to see if you could get away with it, the ludonarrative dissonance meter would blow off the scale.

Not that it is this huge complaint or anything, but Tommy Vercetti was still totally in character while throwing molotovs on crowded night-clubs for no reason and the San Andreas world was crazy enough to accept anything.

How do you want them to distance themselves from GTA4 in terms of gameplay? What can they do while still staying GTA?

I have a hard time seeing them doing anything that's not traditional open world third person action gameplay at this point. Steal car, drive across town, watch cutscene, take cover, shoot gun, drive back to where you came from, shoot some more, rinse repeat.

Nobody else is doing it. How many casino and bar themed mini games do you really need?

Its that euphoria engine they use. I never knew this was the reason why the game felt awful. The car handling was awful, player movement etc. Most use that for enemies for rag doll but they used it on the main character. All their games this gen, (not sure of la noire) have this similar gameplay. If it still exists no buy, i hate it. They would need to ditch it or really do alot of work to fix it.

Honestly, I think it looks just okay. It is rehashing a lot of the same archetypes and themes (and cities..) etc; I guess that's okay though I'd like to see something new one day. Also, I'm not getting duped by Rockstar trailers again like I did with GTA4. Cool scenes in them that I expect to be part of specific missions could just be random fucking around shot in a cinematic camera angle. For example, I remember in one GTA4 trailer there was a scene of a police car chase on an airport runway. I assumed it was part of a mission and there was no such mission. So yeah half the cool stuff I see in this, I'm not going to assume are things. I didn't even think it looked all that "krazy," considering its supposedly trying to bring that element back to the series. As always with current gen Rockstar though, the dealbreaker is going to be how it actually plays - good or like a current gen Rockstar game.

Also, it feels like Rockstar is on the verge of (or already in) Nintendo-territory, where they're always looking back to previous installments and trying to recapture that magic. Even this trailer setup, feels built like a series of callbacks to old games in the series." Here's the Boys in the Hood stuff, here's the kooky countryside stuff, like San Andreas. Remember San Andreas?!" "It's modern day LA, but hey, if we play this 80s song and show a couple of shots of sun soaked streets, it kinda reminds you of Vice City, doesn't it? Wasn't Vice City awesome?? Yeah *Grins*" GTA3, Vice City, and San Andreas were phenomenal game that felt nothing like the other and weren't trying to be like the other. Then again, Rockstar may have just reached the point where they've done all the American cities they ever care to do from here on.

Nope, the physics for vehicles ( land and air) are above and beyond ANY open world game for many reasons and I have listed them many times as to why they are in a more appropriate thread but why I like these physics are just a preference. You prefer the instant turning, 0 to full speed within 1 second, turning full speed, twitchy and no depth physics of SD/JC/SR I assume which is fine.

The physics are not bad in IV, you are bad at understanding the physics in IV, very simple.

IV driving physic are in depth, quite a lot and have a learning curve. Not perfect but are very close to it. From a 4x4 to a super car to a sedan, all feel different and how you expect in a sense.

Player movement is bad in IV yep but improved in RDR and pretty much perfect in MP3 so that is not as much of a problem, assuming R* use MP3 version.

Shooting people, running people over and hitting people in IV/RDR/MP3 is miles better, in terms of how it looks, how it feels, satisfaction and how real it is and is a step up and massive step forward over the crap we see in games currently ( how when you hit pedestrian, they become either jelly and have 0 animation to them like in skyrim or just stay still and have there animation frozen while they fly like 1000 feet into the air liek SR or SD. Yea, that is so much better right...)

In this case, I hope you are happy with WD or SR IV since R* are sticking to this.

I'm really wondering what club interiors will look like in this game. Hercules and Maisonette 9 were so awesome in IV. And the club level in Max Payne 3 was pretty astounding- here's hoping for some great dancing and nightlife vibes!

This.
Plus, you know, molotovs.

I'm pretty excited that a country station is returning (presumably from the music in Trevor's trailer). I don't generally like country music, but I admit that the country station in San Andreas was probably my favorite.

I don't think anything about that really looks next-gen or beyond the current consoles. Rockstar just has the money to obtain the proper talent and give that talent the amount of time they need to outclass anyone else when it comes to open-world games.
I don't believe it looks next gen either but but without getting ahead of myself, I can't wait to see what they will do when it's their time to give us GTA VI.

Ps3 version will be sub-hd with 20-25 FPS and reduced details...again....Am I right?
(I only have a Ps3...so I'll buy this game anyway)

Well the ps3 version of V was shown to the press during the first reveal according to the GI rep who went to the showing

Take what you will from that.

I don't think I understand the accusations, even by Bish?

I certainly prefer gang related crime games/movies over Mafia settings, does this qualify me as someone with a racist agenda too?

Yeah, I liked Franklin's trailer the best. And yes, I thought Jay Rock's song inclusion was the best choice, even amongst the others.

What is going on here? I'm happy that at least we've got GTA fans that can discuss in an open/safe/educated environment.

And Sethos has been a long standing GTA supporter, even in the deepest trenches and hate threads on the game. We've got the crime angle from every perspective, what's not to like?!

Looks like GTA V has the potential to be very good hopefully the driving and checkpoint system aren't the steaming pile of hot garbage GTA IV's was.

*shrug* I'm the complete opposite - my enjoyment of SA skyrocketed after you ditched the rest of the gangbangers and could dress CJ in a snazzy suit and work for people in highrises.

This has probably been said before, but I really hope R* is able to pull itself away from the mechanics of "drive to mission marker on mini-map, watch cutscene, kill dudes, watch another cutscene, rinse and repeat."

These trailers look great, but it's 98% cutscenes, it really doesn't give me any idea what the game is going to be like, apart from it looking decent.

I would love to see R* release some gameplay vids in the vein of what they did with RDR, those tutorial kinda vids, with a sweet voice-over telling you what you're able to do and explain new mechanics a bit more. Here's hoping.

Doesn't mean much as far as what we saw in this trailer.

My suspicion is that they just crammed the low-res current-gen assets onto the PC version's engine and spit out a demo, which would help explain why the lighting, shadows, fire effects, and blurring look far beyond what the current-gen consoles can achieve. The PC/next-gen version is probably on hold until they finish the 360/PS3 ones.

They'll release the current gen versions on Sept 19, then re-visit the PC version and next-gen versions (all x86, so shouldn't be too difficult) and re-release the game with higher-res assets and better effects in early 2014.

This is Rockstar and GTA: they always release this series on every viable platform which will have sales tho justify the effort.
