TITANFALL 2 |G2.1| "Whatever The Fuck That Means"

I really hope they ditch source and go with something a bit beefier for TF|3. I would imagine 4K will be standard and maybe even 60FPS? Who knows. If anything, the lore and the art has made me want a movie more than anything. I kinda want Neil Blomkamp to direct but of course that would be neigh impossible given the rights, timing and everything else aligning.

I can't believe how bad some people are at this. FD losing nearly all the health within a few waves even on Easy/Normal and not spending cash for defenses. Saw some people with over $1800.

I don't always use coms, but when I do, it's to tell people to deposit their cash in Frontier Defense.

The movement mechanics literally relies on Source to work. I doubt they'll ditch Source anytime soon. Moving to something like UE4 means they might face the risk of not getting the movement right. Yes you can do bunnyhops and air strafes in other engines but to this day no other non id tech variant engine have made these feel more natural. Id Tech 6 maybe?

So does anyone else think Frontier Defense on War Games is harder than the other maps no matter the difficulty? Even on regular it feels like sometimes my team just gets stomped, can't imagine it on hard and above.

Yeah, for sure. I think it's because of the time it takes to get from one end of the map to the other. The big hole in the middle of the map makes it hard to get from the right to the left to take on mortar titans on either side, or the scorches/legions that come in droves from the left.

War Games has:

four actual lanes to defend, compared to other maps 3;

the harvester being placed at an elevated location, meaning ranged enemies are able to hit it from a farther distance, it doesn't help that the map spawns A LOT of reapers and monarchs;

the same number of reapers and their high tendency of jumping to rooftops spamming ticks means you have more actual threat, plus the ticks and low light situation are huge threats to pilots, it doesn't help that ticks like to amass at the exact location you respawn from death.

mortar titans spawning at the airbase side of the map and then start to attack the harvest immediately, rather than marching forward for a while like on other maps, and on the other side of the same map, meaning players need to get through a sea of other hostiles to reach them.

This game does everything in its power to make me hate it. Shit maps coming up frequently, shit lag, shit meta, and shit matchmaking.

These are the type of people Im being matched with

I don't know man, that gif is kind of hilarious.

Also, people are not very good at FD. Droz keeps saying there are mortar titans on the map, and the fucking Ronin on my team just keeps running around going after the non-mortar titans. I'm in a Legion, I can't rush to the other side of the map! Then there's the other guy in a Monarch who thinks he can push too far out then realize he can't out-DPS the titans coming in. So frustrating.

How long's the current double XP going to be active for?

Also I can't help but feel it's a missed opportunity not having customizable helmets/masks for the pilots. I look at Ash and here I am as a goofy looking stim with a lunchbox for a head.

I feel robbed. I bought my Monarch last week, just generated and now its locked again. Shouldn't it be unlocked since I bought it?

Play another game then. Matchmaking is perfect - I get games in seconds. Some people won't be good, it's not the end of the world.

Games that attempt to find balanced matches take ages to do so and are almost never actually balanced. Take a look at Overwatch. That game supposedly has skill based matchmaking. It takes minutes to find a game and it's almost never balanced.

Just give me fast matchmaking instead if it's not going to be balanced anyways.

Anybody on PS4 interested in doing Master or Insane difficulty tonight or later this week? Matchmaking isn't letting me find a Master game, and I'm not sure I want to attempt Insane with complete randos.

I'm currently at 4 upgrades with Legion and all upgrades with Monarch. I should probably have Legion at 5 upgrades, maybe 6, later today.

Okay, so why is this not one of the most popular online FPS? I've been playing this the last few days and it's super addicitve (the campaign was cool too and had some creative level design). This is basically the first time I'm really playing something online this much. The movement is amazing. I'm feeling like a ninja zipping through these maps and today I've even been in the Top 3 almost constantly in Attrition and PvP :D I'm no shooter expert, but what does COD, for example, do better than this? I can't see myself going back to a FPS without this kind of movement.

My least favorite part are actually controlling the titans. It's so slow and clunky in comparison. I never jump into them in MP.

Yes, skilled based matchmaking is cancerous to most games. They should either have ranked play or nothing.

EA did a HORRIBLE job with the timing of the release.

Frothy just posted a pretty lengthy video putting together the gripes/complaints regarding Titanfall 2 from competitive Titanfall players.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Tq6UqnJlYA

I never played the original Titanfall, and I don't ever intend to play competitively so it's tough for me to agree/disagree with a lot of the points made so far (I'm only 8 minutes in). Honestly though, with the exception of very minor frustrating things, I absolutely love Titanfall 2. I don't think I've put in this many hours in a multiplayer game, like ever.

Are there any party modes in this game at this point? By this i mean crazy chaotic modes like knife only and stuff.

An hour long vid and Im 10 minutes in... its like most problems in TF2 were solved in TF1. If only there were people who brought this up sooner and not a year in of the game's life. Oh, wait! Many did! And not just in this thread, but on reddit and all other places that discussed the beta, launch, and the game's current state.

I don't know, I don't particularly agree with a number of their criticisms. I never expected anyone would say that the slide-hopping mechanic is problematic, but they're looking at it from a competitive standpoint. It's like they don't like that advanced movement is a lot more accessible and no longer reserved for "movement specialists."

Or the hero-style Titans. I really like that they are characters with different roles. Their complaints are very much subjective as players who played the original Titanfall.

I agree with the slide hopping and advance movement and feel they were improved for the better. Its a nudge for the inexperienced and not something thats pretty much handed to them like say the A-wall. They had a solution for those players in Hard Cover, but they swung too far in one direction and decided to add amp damage to the pilot ability instead of making it a Boost. You would think something that provided protection and increased damage would be a thing you earned.

I dislike the hero-style Titans. A lot. Monarch helped a bit but its nothing compared to TF1s customization. I get bored with one loadout and I can switch not only the weapons/kits, but the Titan as well. With TF2 you have to play a certain way. Get bored? Switch to another Titan that you can only play a certain way.

Slide hopping is an issue for a number of reasons. Why does it even need to be there? Why should you even have to hold a button to hop? It wasn't needed in Titanfall 1.

If there needs to be a hopping mechanic, why does it have to be this? It does not make sense to bounce around on your knees. It looks dumb.

I've said it before, it looks like a bug or an oversight of the sliding mechanic that wasn't dealt with.

I know I wanted a progression system in FD but locking us out of difficulties was a monkey paw solution that makes me never play it.

;(

and yes, slide-hopping is poob

lol Frothy is just saying all the shit people complained about with the beta, that he CLAIMED wasn't a problem prior to release when he played with Respawn.

Frothy is just a narrator in the video, he did not write any of the script.

A lot of these problems are too competitive centric but as a whole it has a lot of good points. They broke A LOT of the great things from TF1, and this is from a casual player. The maps and Titan combat are the biggest problems. At least you can see Respawn knows they fucked up when you look at the DLC maps.

Something not mentioned in the video is not being able to use Titan abilities like rocket salvo while performing actions like reloading or shooting. So frustrating. Did 2 have different lead designers to 1? Like really? I remember watching a panel from Titanfall 1 and they literally commented on how mechanics they ended up implementing in TF2 didn't work, like the Titan health/shield.

Putting 90 fov clips against 110 fov clips makes me wish I could make the 90 ones 110. When the 90 ones come on the feeling of speed goes kaput.

Did anyone else notice that FrothyOmen used Jet Set Radio music when talking about pilot movement in the hour long video?

I love him.

From what I remember (and I could very well be wrong), the MP design teams were different between the two games because the SP campaign in TF2 required a lot of resources.

Also, my understanding of health/shield panel was that they wanted to test out different mechanics and that neither TF1 and TF2 were perfect but more or less worked. I would need to watch it again.

I did and I don't love him.

He has been fake since the beginning. There was never any need to pretend to love R2 changes and I called him out on all the bullshit as soon as he made Technical Alpha videos.

Agree with most of the points. I personally love the addition of sliding. It provides another layer to the movement and feels great. Bring back b-hopping by all means but not at the expense of the slide hop, which still requires skill with air strafing. They could introduce another speed tier to separate the two styles if necessary.

The changes to ADS firing are a good thing on balance too. Let's face it, the r101 had no right to take people out from halfway across the map with laserpoint precision, and did little to encourage the run/jump and gun style of gameplay that Titanfall so excels at. Not sure randomising the spread was the way to go about it though.

This, and having limited ammunition. I enjoyed having to run with a pistol and scramble for dropped weapons when I ran out of ammo. There was depth and a skill ceiling in the first that was smothered into the ground with TF2.

I only love him because of the JSR music. Never watched any other videos. Also, this one wasn't his thoughts.

It was said prior, the video's script and editing is by another group that requested Frothy to narrate. Though I should bring up he is a fan of JSR and plays JSR music regularly on his stream.

Titanfall Assault was released today and I don't think there's any discussion on GAF about it, obviously. Even though I love the Titanfall lore, this seems like a weird game to make.

With all this talk about TF1 being better, I feel like it's October 2016 all over again. Stupid Frothy for posting that video and stupid me for posting it here.

Also, you guys are crazy, slide hopping is awesome.
