Tecatito Corona is out for us due to personal reasons.

Still should be exciting to be back in this tournament after our mediocre showing in 2013

Can't see any team other than Germany winning it but I'd like to see Portugal lift the cup if only to enhance Ronaldo's legend. Group B looks considerably more difficult than Group A.

Germany are leaving their A team at home, they are only taking the reserves as they don't take the competition seriously.
I really think Portugal have a good shot at winning it.

Please, please, please Portugal, Russia and New Zealand, give your best an crush Mexico, so we can get rid of the puppet Osorio, we need a coach that won't throw away matches.

There are plenty of criticisms I would leverage against Osorio, but throwing away matches is not one of them. What the hell are you talking about?

By constantly moving players around and calling new players out of the blue? He had a functioning, organized team against Honduras. Then, against the US? A bunch of troncos their representatives really want to sell.

That's what I meant.

By constantly moving players around and calling new players out of the blue? He had a functioning, organized team against Honduras. Then, against the US? A bunch of troncos their representatives really want to sell.

That's what I meant.
Throwing a match is purposefully losing. His rotation system has nothing to do with that

By the way I agree that he shouldn't be doing that, but nominally, the team on Sunday was the A team.

I should had said "thrown away" then. Using official matches to "test" players? What's next, using amateur players during the world cup? Is quite close, maybe not intentionally, but still treats important matches as sparing games.

Far from A team, specially with manos de coladera Ochoa goalkeeping.

Ochoa had nothing to do on the goal last Sunday bruh. And who do you want there? I'd be happy with acota but I don't want my Chivas bias showing

C'mon now Mexico had a lot of chances to score against US. I think they will be a fine team in this Confederations Cup.

Mexico could have win, but the players and strategy were all pulled out of that joke of a coach a**, so much he made substitution HALF HOUR INTO THE MATCH. Second half? "Boys, just kick the ball real hard, maybe they make a stupid mistake like we did!"

Believe me, Mexico could look great and do a great match against Portugal (not expecting that at all, I will call it, the "strategy" will be to have someone, most likely the less skilled defenders, following CR all around the field and the others just practically loitering around), then be unrecognizable next match with players out of the zone they dominate and others playing positions that don't make use of their abilities, just because that mofo likes the idea (or the big suits want to show off some guy to European clubs).

The United States sat back after the goal and at no point in the match did they use the right wing to attack or even generate danger. The Alanís/Gallardo substitution was an acknowledgement from Osorio about the rival's intentions. That's the one tactical maneuver in the match that actually made sense. I would put more focus on Osorio piling up attacking players on the wings while generating no football in the middle if I were trying to criticise his performance on Sunday.

Jedinak is out for Jeggo in the Australia squad.

First match line up will be something like:

Ryan
Degenek, Sainsbury, Behich
Leckie, Luongo, Irvine, Smith
Mooy, Rogic
Juric

Vamos Chile mierrrrrr...

*points at avatar*

I want my team to win this. Let's complete 3 consecutive years (2015: Copa América; 2016: Copa América Centenario; 2017...) of winning cups after not winning anything for our entire football history. It'd be fucking epic.

Why is New Zealand in Oceania and Australia is in Asia? New Zealand is a shoe in for the Oceania title without competing against Australia.

Australia felt they don't have any challenge in the Oceania region (New Zealand being to only decent opponent), so they requested to be moved to the Asia region.

Fucken subscribed! Looking forward to this!

Do we know if they're going to be using replay tech for this tournament? Im hoping they'll use it for the WC!

Australia is gonna get destroyed. We have been playing so shit and our defence is pissweak.

Ayyyy we might get a draw against Cameroon...

Australia has been a member of the Asian Football Confederation since 2005(although we still had to qualify for the 2006 World Cup through Oceania). We were playing teams like Western Samoa and beating them 31-0, there was just no competition. So now we play in the Asian Cup, our club teams play in the Asian Champions League etc.
It basically means our national team plays a lot more games overall than we used to, and a lot more tougher games.

We needed to move to a harder confederation to get better at football.

In order to qualify for the world cup, we had to win Oceania Cup (which meant 1 tough-ish game against New Zealand) and then it was a two-leg playoff against another team from Sth America or Asia. So really only three tough games each world cup cycle and limited chances for mistakes.

Moving to Asia means we have to qualify for the Asian Cup and then qualify for the world cup, which means 6 or more competitive games each year for the national team. It also means that if we lose a game, we are not automatically out, unlike when we were at the end of world cup qualifying in Oceania.

Now Oceania has automatic qualification for the world cup, there has been some (not much) talk of us going back there. A lot of the Asian countries (particularly the West-Asian teams) don't like us as we take one of the qualifying spots from Asia.

There has been talk of West Asia and East Asia splitting up into two confederations because the oil rich West teams can hack that they spend billions on football and football infrastructure but can't qualify (Australia, South Korea and Japan have taken three of the four spots at the last two World Cups).

Oceania just needs to be folded into the Asian confederation. They can still compete in their own sub-tournaments (à la the Caribbean Cup) where one or two Oceania members can then advance to the Asian Cup and/or Asian WC qualifying. But having a separate federation that is made up mostly of teams outside of the top 100 is silly.

Interesting, I didn't know that happened 12 years ago. So now, New Zealand gets a defacto auto bid to confederations cup since those pacific island countries they compete against suck at soccer. And since Oceania gets a 1/2 bid to the world cup, they'll always have a due or die game against either a CONCACAF or CONMEBOL team for a world cup bid

Chile had 148 chances to score and Germany had 2. It ended 1-0.
Both teams used their main squad (Chile goalkeeper was the only exception, and it showed) it was a very fun match.

So German efficiency, nice

Also, goddamn @ 7:53 in your link. Sounds like the radio host is at a fast talking contest lol

Im pretty sure its still 0.5 tickets. However for the 48 team 2026 WC Oceania will get an automatic ticket though. But not yet.

Oceania now get two places at the U20 World Cup because New Zealand is so dominant.

Tell your team this time they'll need a bigger bag lelelelel.

No, seriously, while I think name by name and as a team, Chile is better than Mexico, that 7-0 was for sure an anomaly.

The thing is right now, Chile has not been playing great during the friendly matches, so... it's totally uncertain for us how good the performance will be in official games.

Another bad news for us is Claudio Bravo (goalkeeper) is still injured so he'll not be able to play against Cameroon. Damn it!!!

hah, that's pretty much standard football commentary speed here in Chile - at least on the radio. You can sorta understand it: as the listener cannot see what's happening on the pitch, the commentator has to describe pretty much everything that happens as soon as it happens so the listener can "get the full picture" so to speak.
The problem (for me) begins when the same people start commentating at that speed/level of detail when they're on TV. It's not needed - we're watching the damn thing. Just... slow down a little.

Can't see any team other than Germany winning it but I'd like to see Portugal lift the cup if only to enhance Ronaldo's legend. Group B looks considerably more difficult than Group A.

Never doubt on Chile. That's their mantra since 2015.
