Not that big a deal to me personally. Destiny and Call of Duty along with Watch Dogs should tide me over the rest of the year.

I think the underlying point that's being ignored here is that Sony's first party studios are currently struggling to produce full-scale content. Better (compared to XONE at least) versions of multiplatform games (many of which are still available on 360/PS3 as well) certainly haven't sold me on the platform just yet.

Killzone
Knack
inFAMOUS
MLB

All within the first six months. You were saying?

Now that I think about it they both are kind of on a even playing field when it comes to delaying shit.

Sony cancelled SSM New IP
Microsoft cancelled new Black Tusk IP
Halo 5 delayed a year
DriveClub delayed a year
Quantum Break delayed to early 15
The Order 1888 delayed to early 15

No new games for holiday 2014? Halo HD!
No new games for holiday 2014? TLOU HD!

Halo was never delayed it was always coming in 2015. And I thought the black tusk IP was just a demo?

Maybe Sony is quiet because they just don't have many games for 2014 after all, not because they had a master plan.

The positive side of this is that there has to be some good news coming tomorrow if they are feeding the delay to us.

Sony doesn't exactly have the kind of cash to throw around that they used to on first party games. It's very possible they are scaling back on first party output and focusing more on third party games (with co-marketing type deals) and indie/DD titles that might come cheaper than developing AAA games in house or paying for outright exclusivity like say Microsoft with Titanfall. I'm a fan of Sony's first party stuff and their output was legendary in the PS2 and PS3 days, but a lot of those bigger budget games did not perform well sales-wise so it's not surprising that, especially in Sony's current financial state, they might try a new strategy.

It's a reality of the modern games industry. Leaks are common, and consistent enough that they're an accurate barometer of the future. Everything leaking out of Sony is that their internal development is in upheaval. Sony Santa Monica's thing may have been scheduled for Fall 2014 - but that's dead. Uncharted 4 was probably set for this Fall - no way that's happening now.
If Sony can surprise me with two more AAA games that are near-completion, yet they've just declined to mention up to this point - I'd be equal parts thrilled and annoyed. Thrilled because I want software, but annoyed because it shows a remarkable blindness to their customer base. People just spent $400 on their machine, and are left believing that it's devoid of worthwhile exclusive content for the immediate future?
If you've already spent it, what do your expectations matter if they surprise and deliver in the fall?

I think Sony should stop publishing games in the fall. They mostly can't compete so their games kinda just get stomped.

I want Uncharted 4 to come this year for 2 reasons:

1: I love uncharted and a PS4 uncharted would be amazing.

2: the amount of crow served would be amazing.

I think this delay benefits The Order more than just adding polish. It gets this new IP away from a crowded holiday release and into a slot that is much less crowded.

I do think Sony has another holiday title to date though. If it is not Uncharted, it would be amazing if it was The Last Guardian.

Most of that entire list is coming to PS3 or Xbox 360. Gosh, upgrading to a new console this year makes little sense.

Who are you to tell anyone that wants better and faster HW what games to play? I have a PS3 and 360 and have absolutely no plans on getting any of those games on older platforms. Games are games, get over it.

So what if most of those games are cross-gen? Those games are all a *far* better experience on the PS4 than the PS3 or X360. It made total sense to me to upgrade.

Going off the bombcast, 2014 is the year of 2015.

Although that's from a guy that doesn't really care for Evolve, AC Unity, Shadow of Mordor, Alien Isolation, Dragon Age or Arkham Knight.
So from his standpoint sure why not.

I couldn't justify buying $60 360/PS3 versions of games if I know I can a far superior version with a $400 upgrade with a X1 or PS4 console that will last for years and years.

Its better that Sony comes with a pretty damn good show on E3 with bunch of new titles, even if its not for this year. I mean, theyre losing their lineup advantage with those delays, specially if MS really brings what people want (MC Collection, Halo 2 Anniversary and Forza Horizon 2).

I prefer to see this game being delayed but releasing the way they intend to, once its looking awesome. But for the sake of the console marketing they need something to fill their consumers hype. The Last Guardian would do it good! :p

Thankfully for senisible people, we realize Sony has a fantastic track record in this area.

Sony heard that Microsoft has basically Sunset Overdrive and Halo ports to carry Holidays 2014, and is willing to be a bit more lenient towards struggling developers.

Hey, at least they've got Drive Club to go up against Forza Horizon 2. *shrug*

MLB is cross platform though. PS4 exclusive is what's needed.

MLB The Show is exclusive. MLB 2k, the crossplatform game you're thinking of, is dead.

It really amazes me that people kill the Xbox One but praises the PS4 still. I have a hard time turning my PS4 on because of the lack of games. Great system, but I am going to need more than The Last of Us and Driveclub as exclusives this year.

Was really looking forward to The Order too :(
Oh well

What games from Sony's first party studio in the last gen would be considered large flops?

This makes no sense. How are Evolution "unproven"?

And seriously, Sunset Overdrive is "proven" and an "established brand"?

Drive Club, as an IP, is not proven.

I never claimed Sunset Overdrive was proven or established. I think there's a lot more room for new IP in the world of shooters than there is in the world of racers, of course.

Well have Microsoft indicated that they are? We were in the dark about both console's winter lineup weren't we? Did we have any firm dates for anything at all?

If The Order had launched in October, been shit or sold shit then I'd imagine the ire from one side or another would be a total headache. If the game has been delayed to improve it and/or improve its chances at good sales then why not?

I understand though - looks like developers are struggling a little bit, and not just first party.

That was basically my motivation for buying at launch. I'm going to spend the money anyway, maybe I save £50 if I wait two years, but I also get worse versions of every game I play for that two years, I'd rather just upgrade.

I find it incredible, ridiculous and hilarious that Nintendo has the best 1st party output for the rest of the year:

Hyrule Warriors
Bayonetta 2
Super Smash Bros. for Wii U
X

That's console only, they'll put out stuff for the 3DS as well. Also they're probably going to release some unannounced game, just like they did with 3D World last year.
Yup. But kind of expected. This is Wii U's second full year. I'm glad I got one to entertain me for 2014 but it did get a head start.

I think the problem comes from the 1st party output for the PS3/PSV in 2013. Several major studios just released a game. That wasn't quite the case for the PS2 IIRC.

Yeah, pretty much- all of their big guns either had a big PS3/PSV release in 2013 (Naughty Dog, Sony Santa Monica, Media Molecule) or already had their first big PS4 release (Sucker Punch, Guerrilla.)

I still don't believe that a higher resolution/frame rate are more compelling than exclusive software for the mass audience. For hardcore fans - sure. It's why the PC is booming - those people want the best. But the average consumer just wants games. If you tell them "Here are all these great new titles for the Fall - most of both consoles, but XBox has one or two more that you may like"... The ONE wins that conversation 9 times out of 10. Combined with price parity, XBox is in a position to win this holiday season and earn back a solid deal of the lead.

Dont be delusional, ps4 will win this holiday no matter what. They will be advertising most of the big third party games this holiday. That will sell more consoles than any of the new ips between ms and sony this holiday.

Damn, that's a shame. But might be good for Sony, maybe they'll use it again Quantum Break next year.

The continued performance of PS4 over One takes away credibility from your statement. The average consumer knows more than you give them credit for. Anyone willing to spend $400 on a console probably did a little research. Also, people fucking love buzzwords. It's the reason you can sell them on a 22 inch 1080P 3D smart TV for their garage. If and when they find out that PS4 almost always performs better, they're going to take note. Add to that the lower price and better word of mouth (currently) and you have a situation in which third-party titles will be a driving force.
