Watch_Dogs original graphical effects (E3 2012/13) found in game files [PC]

Nothing amazing, but a few Bokeh screens.

Makes the game kinda hard to play, honestly.

Jesus christ, this looks like an entirely different game. Has it been mentioned whether these textures are on the console game discs as well?

It addresses stutter, yes. MaLDo posted earlier saying that the way the game approaches textures is really odd, loading textures twice and some algorithms altering fidelity based on the screen resolution you're playing at.

If it only blows past 2GB on ultra due to double loading of textures that is LOL.

You said they spent time polishing the console versions over PC, which is why they didn't bother fixing advanced effects on the PC version; that implies that consoles couldn't handle those effects because they lacked the power to pull them off, which means that maliciously or not the PC version still got screwed because of the console versions.
I don't know how work this engine. But I don't think they have intentionally downgraded the engine on pc because console suck in comparison. Probably they haven't the time to refine better the pc version & they have preferred to use the same assets.

Glad I didn't purchase this game if they are going to pull this kind of bullshit. Props to the modder though. Will make this a more tempting $2.99 steam sale purchase in 2 years.

I understand you totally, however you appear to be struggling to understand me.

We're not talking about assets, we're talking about shaders. They didn't create them just for the PC version, they created them when they expected the PS4 and Xbone would be more capable than they ultimately turned out to be. When they discovered they couldn't pull off the effects on consoles, they chose to remove them entirely despite them clearly being possible on PC, rather than doing the work needed to fix artefacts and bugs they caused. Hence, the PC version did suffer because of the console versions.

The army of devs from Ubi put to shame by by one single guy.

They couldn't bother optimizing the game for PC and probably not even for consoles.

Here are a few videos with the new settings..

Everything at Ultra (including textures) on a GTX 690 (sli disabled so basically a 680 2GB card, that's right....2gb with ULTRA textures) 1920x1080 res with TXAA 2 capped at 30fps using NVCP...

Now it does dip below 30 using Ultra textures but I can say for sure right now that if they manage to fix SLI on this game the 690 would handle this game with 30+ fps using Ultra textures for sure using these tweaks.

What this MOD/patch proves is that this game does NOT need 2gb+ VRAM for ultra textures and I hope UBI are rectifying that with an official patch.

The stuttering is gone for me, especially when using high textures, its non existent now (with SLI disabled)

The DoF is tooooooo strong for playable, its like the Photo mode in Second Son, great for photos but that's all.

Plus the Shader on the headlights is freaking out and dithering like hell, so KINDA proves that the biggest reason these are not in was time, versions and parity across multitude of PC hardware and no time left on any other version.

That's a more reasonable spin on some of the crazy claims in this thread.

It's already been fixed for the next version of the mod. 1 guy did this remember.. vs. however many hundred people worked on this at Ubisoft.

The DoF effect is just unrefined at the moment. Seems like the main issue is it's taking too long to adjust from near to far, which (theoretically) should be an easy fix.

I know right now that everyone is looking everywhere so I post this known thing even here -
standing directly in the cars headlights causes this.

I feel noticable FPS drop, but that may be due to me having some xml already setup and that it clashes together. (also sweetFX)

Best of luck to TheWorse.

The DOF is a neat effect in screenshots, but I never did get why that was appealing in a game. It's like simulating a camera focused on the character, and we're not staring at the main character when playing.

we can agree that ubisoft made the game playable

Seems perfectly playable to me now.

Apparently there isn't even a significant change in performance. Dunno if it would work as well on the consoles though.

Also of course we know that Ubisoft didn't downgrade the game just for the hell for it.

who says anything about performance im talking about the damn blur

EDIT:performance wise the only issue with watch dogs is that i cant do ultra textures with anything above fxaa without stutter problems with 3GB 780

Yeah but they've could add a "Screenshot" or "PhotoApp" to Aidens Smartphone - to at least take screenshots like these - but to totally blend it out is a no go..... why did ubi do this :< ?

Sure, it's playable. Just like GTA IV on PC was playable when it released.

Still to this day though, it's an unoptimised pile of shite.

Cool, thanks.

Glad I haven't shelled out money for this yet. Half assed products deserve half the money.

My thoughts exactly. I'll get this next year at half price or less after I have updated my graphics card, and use a mod to improve everything. Win all around.

So the lesson learned, wait an extra month on the PC version of Ubisoft games so the modders can have time to extract the additional effects the game was supposed to have and use the already available assets in the game files to do it, while they also fix the bloated usage of VRAM?

Pathetic.

Yeah. I always turn off Depth of Field whenever it's possible to do so. Same for Motion Blur and other filmic effects.

Eh, the amount of blur can be configured*even turned off). Some of the particle effects and dynamic shadows when light is casted from headlights though still improve the game. As well, this mod makes Ultra playable on cards with 2GB without compromising visual quality.

Awful. Just awful. It's like he has eye sight problems. I like seeing more than 4 feet in front.

I really hope people are aware you can apply this mod and then disable DOF in the in game menus, like I stated earlier. DOF looks nice for screenshots but I can't imagine trying to play the game with it looking like this.

SweetFX through RadeoPro kills performance like -10FPS, without it, the game runs as wth sFX and without this mod.

Pretty sad that Ubisoft has lied about the game being downgraded, now that evidence in the game exists to show they took out graphical features...

What's strange is they were just left there. It only continues to show Ubisoft doesn't really give a shit about the PC audience and tries as little as it can.

As for the gaffers saying 'omg ubiz iz so lazy'; it was probably a decision taken by managers; they just left that stuff in. It happens. L2gamedev pls

It was probably removed simply because consoles could not run it at the time and they wanted to have similar looking editions on pc and consoles. That's it. The fact that it was almost a first wave title didn't help and give time to the team to work things out.

And to be honest, while those screenshots are 'neat', they all look like photos taken by new camera owners once they discover Adobe Lightroom
