(Not that I care, but just so I can get it clear in my mind...)

So if it's not a mod, then why is there a downloadable patch (or file of some sort) rather than just instructions on how to change the configurations? I thought things were being added back to the game that were in the source code, but not available through the game or a simple .ini change.

Because people are just playing the semantics game because the rest of the thread is too technical for them to play along at home.

I think I really like this guy and his attitude, and wish the conversation were focused more around the mod or tweak or whatever the fuck it is (performance on various rigs, comparison shots/webms in different settings, ideal in-game settings, etc.) and less about exactly how many puppies ubisoft has murdered.

That's fair enough, though this attitude comes as the culmination of many times in which Ubi acted all shady about their PC efforts, from the bullshit DRM, to the delayed PC releases, to the broken UPlay, to the weird ports.
I guess people have a sore spot, accumulated by all those past events.

In this sense, that (though irrelevant) comment in the Shader.dat, was fantastically ironic.

Though, personally, i found the Splinter Cell Blacklist port to be just fantastic, myself, so i can't complain too much.

How is this even possible?

Because the E3 2012 components were more thoroughly optimised than the existing engine components as they were taken out and forked in and worked on in less time. I have 2 theories to why this happens, but I don't want to cause too much trouble and just stay on topic with the tweak at hand.

Actually, there's a decrease in performance, particularly at night - about 5fps. But you're getting quite a lot for it, and it seems to be pretty smooth.

TheWorse just needs to fix the bloom at night and he really will have made the game look significantly more awesome. Argh, so close.

So if I modify the cfg to render at say 3890x2160 or if I modified the cfg to create a hotkey that hides the hud on press did I create a mod? D:

I think so yes.
Because does it really matter how the underlying implementation works?

What matters is that you modified the game beyond the original intentions of the game developer.

I see the game files as a black box: it doesn't matter how the inner working works, since as soon as you lay your hands on it, it is a modification. A mod.

I classify all alterations that aren't provided as options in the GUI to the user, as a mod.

My modification is not based on anyones work, only ubisoft's default files.

I don't claim performance improvements, I just EXPERIENCED them. Which doesn't mean It is the same for everyone so If you don't have any peformance improvements and it works "worse" for you, post your specs.

Uploaded the files to mediafire with the fix included, reposted mega upload with the fix included, normal camera dof now Working.

Also I seem to have missed the conversation regarding this file, but isn't this just defining the type of weather depending on the zone/area it is? It makes sense they would make their own separate areas for an E3 demo to me. I can't see stuff like "Warehouse" or "Jazzbar" being graphical settings... The others sound like weather presets for the open areas in general. Come on, some of the parameters are floats as well, they're not boolean flags.

Even the infamously quoted "fRain" is clearly a float based on some of the other presets.

I don't even own W_D but I've followed the game and its hanky release. If I was a owner then I'd be more pissed right now at Ubisoft then I've ever been to Capcom. Sloppy and unforgivable smh. If Capcom was On-Disc DLC 1.0 the this is like On-Disc DLC 8.9 smh.

I'm not indifferent to all that cumulative frustration, and I'm the first to proffer how much I loathe uplay, but I also personally don't really care about it while on the other hand I am really really interested in this... file, or whatever I should call it to avoid a secondary semantics mudfight.

I'd even say maybe once there are a few more iterations by TheWorse it could be appropriate to have a second thread? If you look at this thread title, okay, I concede it could/should be about the fact that the effects were found in the game files and how shitty that is of Ubisoft, rather than the resultant impact on our gaming. But I'd love to see the ratio of the latter versus former reversed, if being able to discuss the latter without the former isn't an option.

Since he may well be reading this thread, I want to personally express my gratitude to TheWorse, even not yet having tried this... re-enablement augmentation myself, I can tell he's putting a ton of effort into getting the most out of the game's graphics and seems really down-to-earth about the whole controversy, whether or not it's unavoidable. Thanks and please keep up the awesome work!

Still playing around with it right now, but so far it's way way way better than 0.6 and it's constantly shifting DoF, which was killing my eyes.

DF on (.7 fixed)

DF off

(edit) One with DF on and without the carlight in the way.
awesome shots, thank you. It's totally getting there... I think I tiny bit more toning down the DOF and a little less bloom on the headlights and he can move on to other effects :D

Thanks TheWorse for finding these and making files that utilize them in game, and thanks to Ubisoft for including them in the files and making them in the first place.

Really improves the game, except I think the current Bloom effects are a bit too heavy as my eyes are hurting from them right now. I'm also not entirely fond of the depth of field but I can disable that if I want.

For reference, I'm running on mostly low settings so I'm not getting the whole graphical package, but it certainly improves the game. Hopefully Ubisoft will release an official patch for PC and the rest of the consoles (or just PS4 and XB1), I feel like they will because of this coming out.

Is this really important to know if we need to call it a mod or a tweak ? I mean... Seems like a drama about nothing. The tweak/mod/shietwhatever is cool, TheWorse may just turn boolean from 0 to 1, he's still the only one which are actually doing it right now.

So lets enjoy the real PC version :D

Editing files is a mod in my eyes, because you modified the file to do something different.

I once adjusted the camera positions in Dirt 2 to make new camera angles, that's a mod, just like adjusting a value to make the lighting on a map look more realistic without adding my own lines of code.

I'm going to "mod" some posting privileges momentarily unless you guys stop navel gazing. Nobody bloody cares. Get back on topic.
