Mario Kart 8 sells (to consumers) ~2 million units in 1 month WW

I don't know why you're posting it either, not sure why an exclusive to 3rd party ratio has any bearing on anything.

Well, that's good for you, but I'm still not sure why those games not being on those platforms is a good thing. What about for consumers who like everything in one place, which there is arguably a lot of?

The very premise of this being a bad thing is saddening, really.

Those games being on there is not a bad thing, them not having enough exclusives is.

It won't do so overnight, but it's on the right track.imo

No way. And I don think Wii U is going to build a Gamecube like library by barely selling and by having major releases severely few and far between, and by having nothing like a Resident Evil Remake, or, 4, something third party and huge.

Bayonetta 2 + Bayonetta 1 remake is the closest thing you'll get from RE4/Remake. 101 to Viewtiful Joe. Wii U is still missing Wave Race, FZero, 1080°, Excite. Who knows if some of these won't be announced at some point? Apart from that, Wii U is definitely on its way to build a fantastic library. Nintendo games are quite stellar so far, and those coming are just as promising.

I will be very delighted if the WiiU turns out to be GameCube 2.0. I loved the GC. I just hope there comes an equivalent to PSO. If someone did a Rouge Squadron 2 HD remake I would literally poop my pants.

Not even close to being anything as awesome as the Gamecube. I know, I had one. Also had NES, SNES, Gameboy, N64, DS, Wii. So I can say with confidence the Wii U is it's own unique thing, very much so not like anything that came before.

It is making a name for itself, whether or not it will be better than GC has yet to be seen, but it's on track to be as good if not better. It won't blow us away on the sale charts, but the games are nothing but quality which is what matters to me most as a consumer.

It has the best Pikmin, a better 3D Mario, and probably what will be the biggest update to Zelda since OoT. Donkey Kong was phenomenal and it has a nice little catalog of indie games, along with the best Mario Kart ever. Smash Bros. will be great and Kirby, Yoshi, and Platoon look promising.

If it gets a proper Metroid or StarFox I have no doubt it will be great. I don't have much faith for a new F-Zero, though. I cannot count one of the GOATS RE4, because it has been released on other consoles since. Even though the GC version will always have a special place in my heart.

I dunno man. So far every Major Release for the Console has seen Critical Acclaim(3DW, WW, Pikmin, DKTF, MK8, Rayman) and nearly every Third Party Exclusive has developed a Cult Following(W101, Zombie U, Lego CIty) and the indie scene is booming. The only games not gaining critical or cult acclaim are Third Party Multiplats.

The Wii U, despite it's sales and lack of Third Party games, has the most games rated 8+ by almost double in the Gen.

I agree with this. The Wii U library is shaping up to be something truly special. The GameCube is one of my favorite consoles of all time, and the Wii U could easily end up being up there with it.

I see it charting high everywhere, gotta give credit where due. Nintendo knows how to push their own software.

Way.

RE4 sold more on PS2.. there were great games on GC, but the Wii U's library as young as it is, seems on track to eclipse it.

Lol, outside of a handful of titles, I don't think the GC is remembered particularly because of 3rd parties.

Pretty sure the GameCube is rather notorious for it's lack of Third Parties.

I don't see a big marketing though. Some TV ads, but no huge ads à la Watch_Dogs.

I am quite happy the game sells well, I really enjoy it. Now keep it alive with some good DLC!

Yeah, I remember the Cube losing RE4 exclusivity was a big story back then.

It is funny, because nowadays it is expected.

At least you can talk. Who are you?
There aren't even 2 million Wii Us out there. Wow.

I don't understand why this is a pie chart.. so out of 590million somethings sold (what exactly?) 490 are hardware and 100 are Mario Kart? Why is this a pie chart? Not to mention that there needs to be one hardware sold for every Mario Kart sold. Someone please enlighten me why they did this lol.

Edit: It's impossible (under normal circumstances) for the Mario Kart segment to take up more than 50% of the pie. The more I look at it the more interesting and bizarre it gets.

Wii hardware sales is the entire pie. It just shows how much millions of software of Mario Kart is sold and how big the attach rate is therefore. It's not meant for business statistics, just a funny graphic.

So, MK8 sold faster than the biggest exclusive of Xbox One (so far) TITANFALL and sold faster than the biggest exclusive of PS4 (so far) Infamous...

Now I think Smash Brother Wii U will smash all exclusives of Xbox One & PS4 in this coming holiday season.

Wii U is saved~

Business statistics or funny statistics, trust me, that "graph" doesn't classify as statistics at all....

Game is selling well but it isn't moving much Wii U hardware.

Too bad it will be outsold by single SKU of Destiny, Cod, AC, Battlefield etc.

I know you were being sarcastic but still :)

Really glad to see it doing well. I'm having more fun with it than any kart racer I've ever played.

Just kind of sad that other quality Wii U games like Tropical Freeze couldn't see the same success.

Honestly, I am not sarcastic. From MK8, I really see there are chances that Smash Brother will sell faster than any exclusive of Xbox One and PS4 in this holiday season.

Well, Mario games are the main reason the majority of Wii U owners bought the console in all likelihood, so it stands to reason the biggest Mario series would be successful.

Even so, impressive numbers considering the small install base... but a shame it's done so little for the hardware itself.

Depends on how you define moving much WiiU hardware. The bundle seems to move more hardware than expected in USA, at least for the first weeks. It is seems that the shipment was not very regular, indicating that the hardware bundle seems to do better than expected. What that means in actual hardware numbers is another question.

The thing is it may sell faster to existing user base but will it move a lot consoles that's the big question. For example MK8 won't make WiiU outsell PS4 and Xbone in May+June.

We only know that for Japan so far. It still managed to double sales there, but the whole market is collapsing. Head of Nintendo France, Stephane Bole, confirmed this morning in Lepoint.fr Wii U sales are 4X what they used to be since MK8, with Wii U now selling 20% of all systems sold, placing it still below PS4 but above xBox One.

What makes you think it had little effect in other countries?

Yeah. From a first party standpoint it could get there (probably will since most the titles are one a generation thing).

However from a third party standpoint GC seems to have wiped the floor with WiiU. I don't expect WiiU to beat GC in that front.

Might as well ask it here.

Say I register MK8 to get the free game, do I need a Wii U to activate the free code or can I activate it online through a browser?

Regarding the GameCube comparisons, it really depends on what you want from a console. Wii U is well positioned to eclipse GameCube in exclusive games (even if of course not all franchises will get a big successor-game, still, keep in mind GameCube also was the home for the worst 3D Mario and the worst 3D Zelda), thanks to Nintendo's own games and their effort in securing exclusive games from Sega, Platinum and Valhalla. However, you could (I know that I did) only own the GameCube and get most games released on it. On Wii U that is definitely not the case and most players, including me, will probably need at least one of the other two consoles as a supplement, too.

I hope other WiiU software get a surge from this. I wasn't even going to get a WiiU until Bayonetta 2 was released. But MK changed that. And then I picked up the Wonderful 101.
