No Miiverse screenshots allowed for Smash Bros. 3DS on regular 3DS, works on New 3DS

It's actually not necessary. All that does is post the pics from your SD card to the internet, you could take the card out and put it in your computer for the same effect.
Are they unencrypted with Smash 4 though? In Brawl, they were compressed JPEGs and used some random encryption. I helped make a tool to decrypt those ages ago, but it would be different if a new encryption scheme is used.

Is it eating into the OS' RAM?

Yeah as posted on the previous page, the 3DS has 64 meg of RAM for games and 44 meg for multitasking programs like Miiverse and the web browser. They decided to consume that extra 44 megs as well so the game has more to work with.

For comparison, the Wii had 88 megs of RAM for Brawl, I can understand why they'd need more than 64 for this game.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
It's basically similar to Ocarina of Time 3D. Remember, guys? When playing that game, Online functions were completely disactivated on the platform.

I'm OK with this since it appears they are trying to get all they can out of the 3DS hardware. Dat 60fps 3D makes it worth it.

Also now I want my New 3DS even more! 2015 is some bull shit.

I can't complain, I won't miss posting screenshots on Miiverse if it means a better game overall. Plus there's still the Wii U version which presumably won't have this problem.

Oh wow, that's some shit. Hopefully this gets patched or something.

It's not going to get patched. This is a tradeoff for performance, and it's highly unlikely that this game can get significantly more optimized than it is now to make OS functions available again.

Fair enough then. Miiverse was borderline unusable on it anyway.

Is it normal that Miiverse can't run when a game is running? Never have used it on my 3DS as far as I remember. Also, what about Twitter?

If they are viewable in the 3DS album, independent of the Smash Bros program, they should be in the same format as photos taken by the 3DS camera and screenshots of other games like Animal Crossing New Leaf. If I remember correctly they are just jpgs/mpos (mpo is the standard 3D jpg format, it contains 2 jpgs, one for each eye).

They did, they just chose to steal the ram from the web browser and miiverse and give us a better game

I honestly think this is the way to go . Cut some non-vital features for the sake of a better game (how many % more RAM are we talking about ?).

It sucks for those who wanted to post a lot of screenshots on Miiverse on their o3DS though.

Lame. Sacrifices had to be made to maintain optimal performance, I suppose.

Annoying, but I'm starting to feel confident that n3DS is going to be the bridge to a proper account system with cross buy across the consoles.

Ultra-non issue.

The 3DS retroactively got a gimped but functional version of Miiverse placed into it anyway, due to low memory. The machine just doesn't have the oomph to do the game, online, Miiverse/photo sharing and NFC/Amiibo at the same time.

I'm sure there'll be plenty of photos of Wii U Smash, and there'll be plenty of photos of 3DS Smash once the new 3DS comes out.

I'd rather have a smooth game than some extra feature that I'll rarely ever use, so I'm fine with devoting that previous memory to the game. Blame the original 3DS release for having way too little RAM.

Future-proofing is a silly concept, you don't know what you need until you need it. Miiverse wasn't even a thing when 3DS came out.

this is no excuse man, you can ask a company to think a few years ahead and save you the need for many hardware upgrades

unless Nintendo wants to give us a new hardware every year they should at least try to think ahead a bit.

Miiverse had to be in the works, Amiibo had to have been a thought

when they finally merge portable with home console I would hope they think a few years ahead or bring back those hidden upgrade ram ports they use to have in hardware.

It's like Sony allowing developers to use 333mhz for the old psp at the expense of battery life. Hope more game will make use of this, hopefully most just disabling the Internet browser but not miiverse.

Ask me about the GAF Notebook
Still say this just shows how long in the tooth the OG 3DS hardware is and the need for a real successor say next fall vs this stupid 3DSi half step.

Man Smash Bros 3DS is going to push my launch model 3DS to the limit.

Anyway not being able to use Miiverse or the web browser while Smash Bros 3DS is running doesn't bother me, they were too slow in the first place.

Just as long I can somehow post the pictures onto the Twitter I am fine.

Now Game Freak blocking pictures for Pokémon X and Y is stupid and I don't get why they did that.

Why don't program a custom screenshot code that you can run in pause mode? I mean, just dump the framebuffer, can't be that hard and omg can't eat that much ram. Nintendo smh.

About 70% extra ram

Wow. Then prefering Miiverse over the additional RAM is absolute madness.

Why don't program a custom screenshot code that you can run in pause mode? I mean, just dump the framebuffer, can't be that hard and omg can't eat that much ram. Nintendo smh.

From what I've read, exactly this is the case with Smash 3ds. Oh, I think I misunderstood your post.

Well you can post the screenshots captured in-game to twitter or other image sites no problem: https://twitter.com/VOOK64/status/510454588764213248

Also, this.

So you would rather have the game being gimped by using 64MB of ram instead of 108MB? And by doing that they would have to delay the game a bit just to try it out
