After Ninjablade's comments in the Bayonetta thread, why are you guys still entertaining his bullshit?

It's both sad and fun to watch all the effort put into this. All the moving goalposts, all the search, all the Nintendo games videos that he has to watch.

so you mean we can not enjoy the Story and have a blast with the plot because it didn´t look like TLoU?

i think i missed the part where Nintendo and Monolith promised a Cinematic Experience.

Where in the world did I say that? I simply said that The Last of Us did well with its story because its characters weren't jarring and was state of the art. Their emotions and how they looked were never jarring and it aded to the story instead of taking away from it.

And seriously? You're doubting this is gonna be a cinematic game?

It's a Tetsuya Takahashi JRPG.

A lot of people dislike how Elma looks, but she is probably my favorite looking one of the cast so far. That one guy who kind of reminds me of Dunban is another one I like. I don't have a problem with the character designs in general though - they remind me of Xenosaga which I was totally okay with.

Jesus Christ I am catching up with thread and Ninjablade must be one of the most annoying posters I've seen here in eons. The tech analysis is nice and all but let people enjoy what they are seeing. We get it, the WiiU is weaksauce... Flash news: Most people know it and don't give a crap. Game looks more than good enough for me and I will enjoy every second of it, just like I enjoyed Xenoblade's blurry graphics, 480p, and uneven framerate.

Yes and i say not every Game needs to be like TloU to have a nice Story. If you can´t enjoy XBX Story than i´m sorry for you.

How convincing a character looks in a character story driven game in 2014 is very important.

Friend, I am not defending X look - I have no strong preferences. Re-read my comments in that light :)

I did, and you brushed away the context from the my comment.

Yes to you (im fine with your point), but other people live in 2014 too and never had a Problem with it ;)

Obviously not. I was talking about the people who are complaining about the faces. I'm saying why other people are complaining about character models.

They zoom in on the face of the characters during story cutscenes and it looks bad. That's a serious problem to a lot of people.

It's a sad state of affairs, but it matters to a quite a number of people. It's 2014.

I agree. Now, how about that Sawano music?

I have no problem with that, i just pointed out why i don't find it impressive, the whole argument is basically about dynamic lighting or static lighting, many people here seem not to be able to tell the difference, to me it's night and day.

Same here. I think the Xenosaga-style artwork translated quite well into 3D, personally...

Yeah I like it. Only person I've seen that looks bad is that other female character but honestly I think it might be she actually turns out to be an android or something. Something about her just gives me a robotic look.

a mixture of static and prebaked lighting can do those tricks, here a video that shows dynamic lighting properly, you don't see nothing like this in X, its like a night and day difference.

I don't know what we're still arguing about. The very GIF you quoted shows how the environment accurately casts shadows on characters, and the character shadows are clearly not blob shadows. They reflect the shape, movement and equipment the characters wear, and they change depending on the time of day. Where the light source is ultimately located is irrelevant, it's dynamic regardless. The light source used to calculate shadows doesn't have to be the light source actually lighting the environment, and neither of the two has to be the sun, despite the fact that you can clearly see it. In GTA and RDR, they appear to be the same. In X, they don't. And looking at the RDR footage, I think I can guess why. Both X and RDR use billboards for foliage, and those billboards don't work correctly with shadows in either game.

Maybe other people don't have such high standards and like what they are looking at.

Just like Xenoblade, whatever they have to sacrifice graphically to achieve the sense of scale that I'm after is fine by me, and it looks like they've gone above and beyond in terms of scale.

The game looks utterly gorgeous to me in every area bar character faces, which are admittedly pretty terrible. I can deal with that - the faces in the first one were pretty bad too, and it's only the women here who are garishly bad-looking with their anime eyes.

As for gameplay, I really hope there are a lot of new elements to the fighting system, because I didn't feel like there was enough development over the course of the game in Xenoblade - tactics that worked at the beginning of the game were largely the same as what you'd end up doing to enemies at the end. I'd like smarter enemies that force you to mix it up a bit. All of that stuff remains to be seen, but so far I think they are knocking this one out of the park. It looks stunning.

oh god this tec talk -_-

The game looks amazing as it is, if you don't like it that's ok, I don't like how a bunch of games look. The thing is I think dicussing my personal opinions as absolute truth is useless.

Monolith Soft just shoot themselves in the foot.

I don´t know how much the rest of you know about GAF culture (I´m an expert), but honor and shame are huge parts of it. It´s not like it is in gamefaqs where you can become successful by being an asshole. If you screw someone over in GAF, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is that GAF, after hearing about this game having static lighting, is not going to want to purchase Xenoblade Chronicles X, nor will they purchase any of Monolith´s games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Monolith has alienated an entire market with this move.

Monolith, publicly apologize and introduce dynamic lighting or you can kiss your business goodbye.

Yes, and Wal-Mart will sell more McDonald's burgers than will the awesome Filipino food truck in my town what uses grain fed organic beef and soft steamed rice buns.

Your point?
The worst comparison in the thread. Please let the childish JRPG battle die, like it was supposed to 3-4 pages ago.

Well, since I always check the back of the cover of the game I'm about to buy to make sure it has dynamic lighting, I guess I'll be forced to not buy this game any more.

So sorry. I just can't play a game with no dynamic lighting in this day and age. I'm not a corporate ball washer like the rest of you, making excuses for such a blatant flaw when it is almost 2015. Wake up, people. You are missing an entire industry that makes way more technological advanced games choosing to get stuck with this kind of practice nowadays.

I'm not feeling the hate for the faces. It's an unusual art style but I don't hate it. Much better than Star Ocean on PS3/360...

You know what? I really don't give a f***k about dynamic or static lightning. It is on the WiiU, of course it will be technically inferior to most AAA PS4/XBONE blockbusters. Yes faces are not really good. And why should I care? It is a spiritual successor to Xenoblade, made by Monolith soft. It's about exploring a strange world with giant beasts in a japanese science fiction setting. You can use mechs. That's all that matters for now.
Please stop trying to enlighten people with your science. If you are interested in this game or in anything WiiU related (and that, I can fully understand), there are plenty of other threads about things you will probably like.
Let just people enjoy what they saw yesterday. They are not hurting you by doing this.
Peace and Mechs.

I like the faces more than i did in the first Xenoblade. There. i said it.

I'm so damned hyped for this game I don't even care about what the faces look like. I just want this game. It looks fantastic, the premise is great, Monolith are freaking magicians.

who the fuck ever said it can't be a great game, i just don't find impressive graphically. i played zelda Altp a year or 2 ago, and it was one the best games i ever played, and it had super nes graphics, i just like discussing graphics, not trying to put the game down in any other regard.

This is probably the game I'm looking forward to the most in 2015, well that is if it manges to get released by 2015.

I remember NinjaBlade from another site, he got permanently banned there for doing the same lame stuff he is doing now. People just need to ignore the guy.

I agree, everything else looks pretty awesome. I can't wait for the JP release and more footage.

If this is online it could be a really good time with a few friends.

I love Kunihiko Tanaka's art style, but I'll be the first to admit it doesn't seem to translate to 3D very well. Or at the least Monolith Soft has difficulty with it. I think I recall them talking about it back during Xenosaga 1 even?

Xenoblade also had weird character modelling going on and do you know what?

I LOVE IT.

It's different in an era where everything's similar. We're hostage to our own expectations of how it should look, like I was judging Fiora's face and nose in the first hour of the previous game, something was different, I didn't like it, I assumed it was due to lack of polygons or something making it so that they couldn't do what I thought they should with it.

Then I've seen Sharla and Melia, and they were more nuanced between them when it came to features than 99% of the japanese games out there. Most last gen HD games re-used the same face model, changed hairdo and clothes, sometimes height and it's a wrap. One could say they are the lazy ones.

He hasn't even proven the game is using static lighting. So let's not "let him win" by telling him "okay you're right but who cares". He's still wrong. Most of us know he's a troll, but we don't need less knowledgeable people coming in here, seeing some of us "acknowledging he's right" about the lighting but saying we don't care, and then assuming he's right about the lighting. Because he's wrong.

Okay lets put things into perspective.

Your impression is comparing what? X1, PS4 and Wii U? That would be futile since the X1 and PS4 are better in hardware performance period. If a Wii U game comes even close to a PS4 game should impress gamers no matter what shortcuts they take. Every dev takes shortcuts.

Are you impressed when you compare other Wii U games to X? Yes or no? If no what is a better looking Wii U game?

I am sure many PC gamers are not impressed by PS4 and X1 games when they can 4k resolution etc. Does that mean the PS4/X1 games look like shit?

For argument sake someone made GTA 3 for the Atari 2600. Would you be impressed or would you say no it looks like an old PS3 game when we have far better graphics on the PS4?

Also is your impressions on the game's graphics based solely on the lighting? Why are you harping so much on it? Is that your baseline?

The point is the game's graphics service this type of game well.

The faces are, well, whatever

They're better than Xenoblade's in technical ways, I guess

I'll see how they work in the final game but I suspect this isn't going to be the same kind of game where there will be lots of close-ups on them

The faces themselves don't bother me in stills but they look odd in motion. They look really static, kind of like Dead or Alive's dollfaces circa 2000-2011. Just the human characters for that matter, Tatsu looks fine and the aliens from the previous trailers look great.
