So German PC gaming magazine Gamestar has released a FAQ on Homeworld Remastered.
There is also some pretty comparison pictures and a picture showing the HW1 mothership in bright pink.
Soooo there is some good things and bad things, heres a translated summary (more info about each subject in the link):

-It seems like they implanted the dynamic difficulty level from HW2 into HW1, so the more ships you have, the more difficult it gets. But they have to play it longer to verify that.

-Fighters in HW1 don't need to refuel anymore.

-Ships have to dock for repairs instead of using a repair beam.

-There is still no timelapse feature at the end of the missions in HW1, so you still have to collect all the resources in real time after a mission *EDIT: You can apparently enable it in a config file, however it is unstable*.
While in HW2 there is still no possbility to end the mission yourself like in HW1.

-The controls in HW1 are now like in HW2 so you don't have to press "m" for example to give a move order.

-DoF can be turned off in the graphic options. There are the setting "on", "off" or "in cutscenes only"

-The preview version still has some bugs such as: Harvesters that won't dock correctly at the mothership. Some voice output is overlapping, subtitles disappear to fast. AI switches to idle mode sometimes. If you build a single fighter in HW1 you will hear the message "interceptor squadron complete" from HW2 when buildung is finished. The HUD is scalable in 4 steps, but in standard mode it's far to small and the next bigger mode is far to big, while the biggest is almost covering the entire screen.

-You can change the color of your ships in HW1 but there is no more possibility to play as the Taiidan.

-There will be modding tools, but they won't be available when the game is released.

-The game is released in an english version only, but the HUD and subtitles are avaiable in other languages too.

-Formations from HW1 were implanted into HW2.
I shamefully stole that summary from Karl1984 from Gearbox Forum
Also keep in mind this is still the preview version of the game. The final version may be different (however doubtful considering it releases in a couple of weeks.)

Terrible Thing... Hope it's just translated incorrectly.
Understandable Thing... Don't forget about this though. Mods can do great things for future sales.

If you go on Homeworld 2 Moddb and look through a lot of the mods, a lot of teams are waiting on the Remastered version and are gearing up for that.
Great Thing*

I LOVE that DOF option. ..the bit about dynamic difficulty is pretty lousy but I guess it all depends on how it's tuned.

edit: Wait, the HUD isn't scalable to any size? You have to pick one? It's nice that they're providing options but Blizzard's HUD scaling is the gold standard* and this just doesn't match up.

*By default, Blizzard's HUD will scale to the same relative size regardless of resolution but you also have the option of overriding this and manually setting the scale with a slider.

They better balance the difficulty better than in HW2. Otherwise that's a huge negative.
THe HW2 campaign wasn't enjoyable at all to me. Way to hard.

Refueling strike craft was cool :(

Yeah, I always enjoyed watching a trailing support frigate being a focus point for the fighters and corvettes. Plus it was neat watching them dock with it on the sides and the arms on the bottom (granted they still will dock it just won't be a cool knowing they aren't getting refueled.

So the lack of fuel brings the question of how do the Kadeshi units work since part of their pros/cons were the swarmers and the fuel ships. It was a tactic to go for the fuel ships so will there be some way to implement fuel usage just on those ships? Otherwise I'm having horror images of the garden missions being crazy hard due to unlimited fuel.

Hmmm the diffculty change will be interesting to see in the original. Makes me wonder if for example you go into the third mission with some salvage corvettes will there be more than 3 assault frigates? I can see it making the Taiidan seem overpowered (compared to what we're used to seeing for "outlying forces" during some of the early mission if you have a large fleet from saving up funds . I guess I'll just have to wait and see how it is but that's more fuel (heh) for my playthrough to be classic then remastered.

Now they're just taunting us! Unboxing of the CE by Game Informer.

Also I just got an e-mail from Amazon that my CE delivery date is Wednesday so I'm guessing everyone who has it ordered will be getting it then or Tuesday if we're lucky.

I can honestly say I don't like how the mothership looks. I think I'll cancel my CE pre-order and stick with the digital version.

Yeah waiting from them myself.

Always tend to work when it comes to amazon.ca, some times one can get screwed over.

The LED lights seems so unnecessary to me. I'm going to keep mine unpowered.

Also, nice.

Perhaps see if someone here is interested in taking it off your hands? Would be better than some scalper getting it.

I might've considered doing that, but I cancelled the order shortly after my post. Going through the process of selling it to another gaffer and hoping the CE didn't get damaged by Amazon or UPS somewhere along the way would be a pretty big hassle to go through though.

Depends if he tried to flip it for extra money.

I don't think it's helping that those images are awful.

Between not having a space in my current apartment to prominently feature the box and not wanting to display the 13" resin LED mothership, they would have just collected dust in my closet.

Video of the game looks pretty good though.

Video's set to private.

Edit: Alternate video.

Double edit: And it's beautiful.

This only means one thing.

Unless they really believe it's worthy of a "surprise" announcement.

Yeah that makes me think they either didn't renew the licensing or couldn't. Sucks too since Yes is one of my favorite groups so it made the credites super awesome the first time I saw them. But I can always dig out The Ladder and sync up Track 1 with the credits if I have too!

That doesn't sound promising :/ why add stuff from HW2 to HW1? That just plain sucks -_-

Amazon.ca has sent out notifications for when the game will arrive.

I'll get mine in the first week of March.

Yep, same. Even though they have me at priority shipping, still March 3rd. They're doing the release date shipping for other titles, why not this one? Also, priority shipping is 1-2 bizness days. March 3rd is double that.

"Homeworld Remastered Collector's Edition"
Estimated arrival date: March 03, 2015 - March 04, 2015

Oh well.

I played some Cataclysm to get my fix in and I remember why I never played much of it. Can't wait for Remasters.

Good to see a detailed overview of the game and the way the trailer was produced to seem like a briefing in universe.

I wonder if we will see any more developer diary trailers or if those 2 will be the only ones? I was expecting more details or perhaps a post-mortem of the whole remaster process after the release since they have shared a bit about it and it sounds rather involving.

I really really hope what I saw there was a crappy shot and not Karan with "enhanced" breasts because I will not only cancel the preorder I'll kill someone.

If you're talking about what I think you're talking about, they've redrawn the entire shot as well as all of the other cutscenes. They will all be intact in the original.

Yeah I'm re watching old teasers and the new redrawn scene isn't that different, that last trailer gave me the wrong impression

At the rate they're going a launch trailer is bound to happen although I don't know what they could show. They've done a great job giving overviews of the game and showing off excellent footage.

never played homeworld, not sure if I should lol

If you have any interest in RTS or scifi/space opera, they're well worth checking out. Fantastic games with an engaging and nicely presented story. And if the remaster gets the attention it deserves, there should be a nice multiplayer community too.
