reboot? dont you think thats a bit ridiculous considering ASM2 was released a couple a years ago? like sis. they seriously could have casted garfield again and nothing would have changed. this is a boring casting decision

This time...no I don't think its ridiculous to start over. All things considered a new studio is taking over the character....so why not wash your hands of previous failure? If I'm not mistaken Spidey won't get his own film until 2017, so that's about 4 years in between solo films while they prop him up with appearances in other, more successful, superhero films in between.

No Donald Glover no sale. Another kinda nerdy-looking white dude seems like it'll just lead the franchise on the exact same path. Boring movies with bland actors.

I'll give it a shot though, I guess. I always do.

The most interesting part of the Ultimate Spider-Man series with Peter around was his spider-man life constantly interrupting his high school life. There was no divide between the two, they kept running over each other. That's never been done in a movie before, and would be great.

The movies always have him at high school age but never do anything with it. He either graduates really quick or they have one fight scene in the school and that's that

Ehh, going to disagree there. I like the plots Miles has been involved in and his supporting cast has been top notch. It's Miles himself who is the problem, he's either written as a blank slate reacting to everything or as Peter Parker.
Agree to disagree then.

I have struggled to finish #6-8 and haven't read since because it's such a chore.

It does seem hilariously cruel to not only replace Garfield with someone who looks basically just like him, but also bring back JK Simmons while simultaneously insisting that Garfield has to be recast in order to sever ties with the past movies.

Eh but t doesn't always have to be the earliest incarnation of comic characters that get portrayed though.

Hell, Heath Ledger's Joker is a far cry from the guy who genetically engineered smiling fish and kept talking about Batman's "biggest boner".

I wasn't disagreeing with you. I think portraying Parker as attractive is just peachy. <3

That'd be me. Love him.

Me, too! I've only read the first three trades, or the first eighteen issues, of his story, but I thought they did a great job with him. I was surprised to hear all the negativity about Miles in some of the recent topics we had, because I'd thought he'd been well-received.

The Donald Glover thing was always fantasy even if Spidey was black. Dude is 31. One of the reason's Marvel didn't like Garfield was his age. He's 31.

They want a young actor

I honestly believe it's future-proofing rather than anything. They want high-school Parker, which Garfield is getting steadily and steadily less believable at being.

Donald Glover is 31 years old. In short, he's too old to be Peter & definitely too old to be Miles. And don't forget who's mostly running the show this time (hint, Sony's mainly signing off on the creative decisions of the correct answer).

I think you have a point if you look at older Spider-Man comics - Ditko's Peter Parker doesn't look like he's supposed to be attractive:
:

Chances are the new movie is going to, again, revisit Spider-Man's origin.

The point of Spider-Man is that Peter Parker is a kid who's awkward and shy and bullied by his peers. He's given power and becomes a hero.

It's a different story when skateboarding male model Andrew Garfield is given superpowers.

I understand in the comics Peter Parker gets to date Mary Jane and Betty Brant and Spider-Man gets entangled with Black Cat. Part of that is confidence and part of that is growing into himself. None of that is he's a gorgeous superhunk to begin with.

Andrew Garfield must be pissed off they recast his role for no real reason

I think people forget that glover isn't actually 16 or they forget what he actually looks like

it's not this

Batman and Spider-Man are two different things though. Lots of people will tell you that Spider-Man peaked early. A lot of people will even say that it was all downhill after Ditko left. Batman, not so much. There are obviously some people who like Batman in his earliest incarnation the best but not nearly as many as Spider-Man. Spider-Man also more or less started fully formed and it took Batman many decades of creators adding on to get the Batman we know.

Also, Laughing Fish Joker and Boner Joker are far from the earliest incarnation of the Joker.

No real reason?

1.) They want someone younger to carry the franchise for awhile as they consider RDJ and the other originals leaving.
2.) Amazing Spiderman 2 was so fucking bad that everyone wants to get as far as possible from that shit heap.

Didn't Peter join The Avengers a bit after college? A 31 year old could pull that off. Unless they are doing the origin story...again.

You don't "actually look like" yourself in a movie though.

I'll give you that. Take away his unique supporting cast dynamics and he feels a lot like Peter.

Me, too! I've only read the first three trades, or the first eighteen issues, of his story, but I thought they did a great job with him. I was surprised to hear all the negativity about Miles in some of the recent topics we had, because I'd thought he'd been well-received.

Yeah, I've enjoyed the stories. Especially the situations involving his family.

Make-up and shave the beard and he'll look like a 20 year old.

I'm fine with O'Brian. He has the looks down but I have never seen him act so I can't judge whether or not he's good. Although, I have faith in Marvel's casting (Cumberbatch is iffy though)

Yeah but if they plan on making this long term like at least 3 movies, cross over stuff and probably more avengers (assuming the marvel/sony relationship last) you are probably looking for a guy to play peter over the course of the next 6-8 years at the very least. Do you want someone who is 23 or 31 for that?

Marvel Studios' Peter Parker will be a high school student, though the origin itself (Uncle Ben & all) will be skipped.
