i really hope it isn't blanka. i feel like him showing himself wearing a blanka shirt is just misdirection. i realize he loves blanka. but i don't think he will be in the first 16.

He mostly just wears that costume because he wore it once, and knows that people expect it now. I think he wears it because he's the "Blanka" guy, and not as a hint.

Also, I think Claw's somewhat popular, but I agree that, whereas he has a universal appeal, the rabid fans that want, say, Q or Mika, are more likely to pay for them as DLC than they/casual players would for Claw.

Haggar. Believe.

You know what? With Claw in, squashing Siliconera, I'm less inclined to believe Alex is in, if only somewhat. I'm gonna do it. I'm gonna board the Haggar hype train and ride it all the way to Metro City!

With Vega revealed, I'm getting more and more of a sense that the rest of the veterans will be SF4 characters just because they're more marketable to a casual crowd. They'll probably save guys like Urien and R.Mika for DLC. They know we'll eat them up.

So I'm betting on the rest of the vets being:
-Balrog (Boxer)
-'Gief
-'Sim
-Juri

"Look forward to a new character reveal at Brazil Game Show"

That's about infinity percent more stuff we have going for Blanka over Juri, btw. Just felt like I should point that out.

That means nothing, Ono wears that to formal parties all the time.

I definitely think it's just as likely that it's the new Brazillian newcomer, but I feel like the fake outs are a bit subtler, if that makes sense.

I just don't put any stock into the BornFree/merchandising theories anymore, BTW. Didn't even see that Dark Sakura thing until now. As much as I'd like her in, there's way too much, different merchandise supposedly giving credence to different characters that it's just way too obtuse to imply anything IMO.

No it doesn't. Siliconera leaked 4 characters. We still have 4 slots left for returning characters and 2 of them are most likely alpha characters considering charlie and birdie(alpha design) are in the blue box.

Man, I remember when Nash was revealed and all I thought was 'Wow, this means anyone can come back!' and now I'm sitting here honestly debating whether or not I can be bothered with this series anymore if all we're going to get is the same characters re-hashed.

This is 100% true, the more rabid the fan base, the more $$$$ capcom sees.

Let's be honest here guys, if claw shows up majority of you guys will probably just grind it out and buy him with Fight money.

But Karin? Or Alex? Yea we are going to see those wallets open up. You aren't going to wait until you save up currency and just outright buy them.

After the Vega reveal, the only character I feel like is a lock is Guile, and the remaining slots are totally grab bag, with 1 other from SF2 and 2 not.

Yeah, I feel like following the releases and rumors so closely has opened me up to be very disappointed.

Replace Juri with Blanka and I agree.
Juri if anything will be in the 4 pack of "other".

Vega looks anything but rehashed

Please be true. Blanka is my favorite Street Fighter character. I'll settle for Balrog. /selfish reasoning

Streetfighter always has pointless (story-wise) characters though. In most of them Zangief, Dhalsim, E Honda and co are just kind of 'there' for whatever the heck. I imagine Birdie will be much like that so I doubt it's much of a point against the green goofball, no matter how much Capcom tries to tell us it's taking the story much more seriously this time :p

Sure, but I think Birdie fits into the out-there pick kinda set aside for such a character, and not necessarily cannibalizing a classic protagonist spot.

Totally. People have forgotten that the colors were just added by some dude.

edit: those colors are from the Evo panel slide:

I remember people had this format after it was first shown off but the coloured boxes are there for a reason and they distinctly have 8 in the green, 4 in the purple and 4 in the blue. Now what those colours stand for is anyone's guess but with 90% of the green box filled with SF2 characters it certainly looks like 50% of the roster are returning SF2 characters with the blue box just returning characters. Purple is obviously newcomers.

Totally. People have forgotten that the colors were just added by some dude.

No, I'm fairly certain the colours were visible on the Evo panel.

I guess you weren't there when I pointed out that the colours are actually on the official capcom slide?

Until you posted this I didn't realise the background actually has coloured squares on it. I coincidentally just got to that part in the video just as I was typing this response so it's the first time I've had a good HD look at it
Ick... I was happy with where we were going with Ryce's idea. The actual sections hinted by the coloured squares in Capcom's slide? Do not want -.-

edit: for those who haven't seen it yet: https://youtu.be/VW8OhG9GB8Y?t=12m15s Check the background 'boxes'

Non-trolling, honesty question here. Why do people seem to want R Mika so badly?

I just don't get it. Is it to add more diversity to the roster? If so, there are plenty of other female characters to choose from.

In general, the population rarely gravitates toward grapplers and her design is pretty clownish overall. Does her being a more agile grappler make people consider her more of a contender than a more traditional grapple character?

Light hearted design
Female
Only female grappler in the series
Hasn't been in a game for a long time
Alpha characters are a good fit for the game's systems
People actually like her

Pick one

I'll admit I've never used her because of her clownish design. I love slim grapplers though and if she is in and actually looks cool, I'd love to give her a shot.

I feel like this game will balloon from 16 characters to 25 pretty quickly. Within the first year or something. Then eventually it'll balloon back up to 40. I'm not really sweating the details of the cast it launches with. As long as it's solid enough.

Pick up guy and Cody along the way

Simple. She's bubbly, a grappler and female. She's literally the only Streetfighter who even qualifies for the last two categories because all the rest of the grapplers are muscle boys.

Also:
there are plenty of other female characters to choose from.

Revealed character so far: 9

I didn't notice that the original image had the colors. But I'm still going to belive and think that colors for Nash and Birdie mean they're returning remake characters. They said Birdie could be considered a new character and I feel the same way with Nash. So I want to stick with that (Don't talk about Ken, please :( )

Wow, I can't believe I missed this. I liked Ken's redesign, his face was a little funky. But, Vega looks flat-out ugly. Given his personality, I hope Capcom can tweak it a bit before launch. The new costume would be more appreciated if it wasn't his SF4 alt. His gameplay looks a tiny bit different, so that's good I guess.

This roster is starting to worry me. Only 4 more vets to reveal, and not a single 3S character so far. My dream roster is officially dead. At least my optimism was killed early. Now, to await TGS.

I guess? My mistake then.

Yeah I was wrong, sorry.
No worries, as you might gather from the post I quoted, I had no idea either until I watched the HD video, at which point everything clicked ^.^;

Keep in mind though folkies: We actually have no idea what the colours mean. We can speculate but we don't know for sure :3
I'd be interesting if we could see an updated version of that from Capcom with Vega and Necali on them... their placement might just confirm our suspicions or it might even make us just go 'whaaaaaaaaaat?' XD

snip, mocking gif

Karin, Maki, Sakura, Ibuki, Elena, Makoto, Juri etc. From Ex even: Pullum, Hokuto, Sharon.

Out of the entire Street Fighter roster there are a number of other female characters deserve a spot. Yes, there are a ton more male characters, but it's not like SF is devoid of females that we have to throw in the clownish character.

I'm dubious that if Mika was in the game, Ono being Ono would make her a troll character like Dan.

Wouldn't be at all surprised to see 10 SF2 veterans make it to the launch roster now. Juri might sneak in though.

I think the colors could easily be a red herring. The placement of the characters within the specific rectangles are too deliberate to ignore.

Seriously man, where are the female fighters? At this point the 3 remaining new fighters would have to be females to have any semblance of a decent gender ratio

Based on those colors, unfortunately, it does seem like they are going to omit the SF3 cast entirely at launch.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised at this rate. I said it earlier in the thread, but I only expect a quater of the SF3 characters to come back in future games and even then it'll be the same characters like Dudley, Makoto, Ibuki ect. Characters like Q, Necro, Oro, Twelve, Remy and others will probably never return again and that fucking infuriates me when we get the same damn SF2 characters in every game.

You and I both know there's no point in even thinking about EX characters because they're owned by Arika and Capcom has been rather stubborn in never paying the fees to use them :p
That aside, I guess I agree that there's a selection of female characters, there's just not many by comparison.

You keep calling Mika a clown but she's actually based pretty well off the strain of women's wrestling that you see in japan and from tournies like Shimmer, which feature flamboyant costumes and masks and whatnot :3

As someone who likes mindgames and detests memorising long combo sequences, grapplers appeal to me a lot because it means minimal input from me on my reads to turn them into damage, plus being close to my opponent is more fun to me than the range game. Sadly, capcom's designs for grapplers is about as far away from my tastes as you could humanly get so Mika being a bubbly, fun character instead of sweaty swole guy in a jockstrap makes her a more valuable addition for me personally than a lot of other characters, outside of maybe a new character that's also a female grappler :p

I still don't know if she's going to make it in the core or if she's DLC but I'm glad she's in if what I've been told is correct :3

Gameplaywise, the most interesting thing about this reveal is that V-Trigger can also just be a move. That makes the system even more variable.
