I rather have them do a direct in january next year, with a new concept and fresh games for 2016. Give them some more time.

If they have games planned for release next year I think it would be good to announce them soon. Unless they are all Q3-4, but I would hope they would have some stuff to release prior to that.

When is the next shareholders meeting? Next Wednesday (the 28th), right? I wouldn't be surprised if the next Direct was the 29th. Isn't that a thing that they've done?

I don't necessarily need a Direct but it'd be nice to see what Nintendo has in store for next year. The release list is pretty barren.

Fans are hungry for Nintendo to be relevant again.

I'm gonna have hope one last time with the NX, but if it turns out to be another underpowered, overpriced, overly gimmicky machine then I'm done forever.

Look, if I can wait months on end for whatever press event Sony does, you all can wait 'til 2016 for a Nintendo Direct. It's not like Nintendo's hiding information anyway.

To be honest, idk how I got by without directs, was info really just released as PR statements beforehand? Such a boring way to receive info

Before Directs, there were a lot of Famitsu exclusives. We had to rely on a lot of magazines and what little trickled out of the company.

EDIT: They were cold and monolithic before Iwata.

Man, I forgot how much NDs made nintendo open up to fans, no wonder we fell inlove with them(NDs), nintendo use to be so secretive, it was infact part of their charm even, but when they decided to do NDs, we felt alot closer to the company.

I miss the Directs, too but I feel there isn't enough content right now to pull off a new one that would satisfy after the heavy anticipation. It would need to be pretty good or people would claim Nintendo had "lost it".
Maybe we could get one when they reveal the new loyalty program but apart from that not many exciting things are happening right now. Personally I'm in the market for a New 3DS XL for Christmas and I was hoping for a nice special edition, but not even that seems to be coming at the moment.

I don't think they're marketing their current lineup well at all without the Directs. We're finding out bits of information from random directs and new sources. It's pretty bad.

They do. They've got Pokkén, Star Fox, SMT x FE and maybe Zelda for the Wii U, and the likes of Federation Force and Mario & Luigi for the 3DS.

If you're expecting them to announce many more Wii U or 3DS titles past that, I suspect you're going to be sorely disappointed.

it's idiotic. the whole purpose of the nintendo directs is to create a constant focused conversation with the fans about nintendo games and systems instead of diffuse media dribbles. this break is like being good friends with someone then them suddenly not contacting you and occasionally sending little pointless texts. it undermines the personal aspect of the marketing which is the whole point and in doing so serves to trample on years of iwata hard work in establishing the format.

like how hard is it to just get miyamoto to record in front of a camera for 30 mins max.

Definitely doesn't make things up as he goes along.

You clearly have no idea how much time and money it takes to produce good video content... It's a pretty huge task, so there's little advantage to do it without a clear message or call to action. They simply don't have the dedicated resources or product announcement right now that would make the return worth it. They appear to be in a dark period, outside of a few turnkey programs. Have patience.

Holy crap! Today's real megaton is that more than two people can have the same first name.

Thank you for summing up my feelings on this far better than I ever could.

Pretty much my thoughts. Imagine if they had a Direct with just the information and trailers they've been doling out recently, people would complain about how there's nothing new and that they got their hopes up for nothing.

No new Directs is lame but if they haven't done one yet then I can only assume that they simply don't have anything worth showing off right now. I'd rather get a jam-packed Direct in January than a half-assed one this month, if that's the case.

Well, it's has been more than 4 months and we were used to get a Direct every 2-3 months with at least one surprise everytime.

Of course Nintendo is full on NX now and until they are ready to reveal it officially, I guess the Directs are dead.

There is content for a direct though, if they wanted to. Pokemon Z, twilight princess HD, mario tennis trailer, xenoblade trailer, mario & Luigi trailer, that mystery dungeon game, thats enough for a 10 minute direct.

This.

I was under the impression we were getting an update on this end of September when the original CN shut down...or do we have to wait for the DeNA mobile game reveal since they're also partnering with them for the new community program?

I think giving it a little more time wouldn't be the worst choice, especially if they had something big to show. A relatively tame Direct covering what we know we're gonna see for the next few months in my mind wouldn't be a worthy continuation now that the Direct's original host has passed. Start things off with a bang, you know?

They can cover the coming holiday titles in different ways until then. But then, Nintendo has always been spotty at showcasing their stuff outside of a few exceptions, so I can understand the desire for a Direct at this time.

I'm not thirsty for a Nintendo Direct but I am for some Nintendo announcements. Other than Star Fox and The Legend of Zelda, there is absolutely nothing to look for in the future.

The only Amiibo that have been announced since E3 are the Animal Crossing wave 2 Amiibo and the Mega Yarn Yoshi. I want Nintendo to announce tons of upcoming Amiibo!

Had a dream Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo all had major conferences in the same week and there were headlines calling it E3 in the fall.

This is what happens to me if there haven't been Directs :(

The Twilight Princess HD reveal will be telling. You can say goodbye to a Direct for 2015 if that's revealed elsewhere.

They have more than enough amiibo out there they need to keep supporting. There's more than 50 just in the Smash line alone, so I'd not expect much of anything being announced soon.

As for a Direct, they hired someone to take over them I believe as they had a job posting shortly after Iwata's death about running them. It'd be my guess that Directs were planned in a short amount of time with Iwata running the show on when they happened. Without Iwata, there's no one to host or say to make one-- so they are left to sit on what they have for a bit longer. I would guess they will likely have one in the next coming weeks if they have one at all again this year. We have the financial meeting on the 30th, and the holiday season ramps up right after that and would be the time to announce any last minute holiday games.

It's pretty obvious why they aren't having Directs right now.

1) The first one will be ignored in favor of the discussion Iwata's death had on it. Release a commercial where everyone ignores what is being advertised to them, that's a good idea.

2) There's probably still a lot of people who simply do not know what to do with it now. The president (and, more importantly here, spokesman) died. It's going to require a decent bit of market research and surreptitious polling to figure out what they should do with it now. It should go on, but in what form? You bring it back the wrong way and you've crashed that train forever.

3) They don't have anything to show. Bring back Nintendo Directs, the first since Iwata's death! This'll be amazing, people are so thirsty for one! ....oh, it's Twilight Princess HD. We knew about that through datamining. Oh, it's Fire Emblem with english voices, big whoop. Oh, I guess that Pikachu Detective game exists, there's a Pokken date, another Smash DLC character, we waited six months for this?

Wii U and 3DS development is winding down. Well, it's wound down, there's likely few if any major announcements down the pipeline. They aren't talking about their new system yet, which will be similarly anemic in the first few months because it's Nintendo and that's what they do. They simply don't have shit to show right now and they have even less shit to show before the NX is revealed than they do after.

At this point, better to keep your mouth shut and be thought a fool.

Nintendo should just pack it up and retire the most effective marketing tool they've ever had, rather than moving on from his death.

Let's not go overboard.

They've been great at energizing and engaging Nintendo's existing fans, which certainly counts for something, but I'm doubtful they've really been effective at much more than preaching to the choir.

I don't see Directs starting back up until next year.

People seem to be more concerned that nees is leaking from everywhere, and with the rampant data mining and oddly time press releases, things seem disjointed.

Sure, it may seem easy to just point a camera at a Nintendo figure and dole out news, but they're gonna take a while off since Iwata really was the heart and soul of the Directs.

The first Direct post-Iwata's gonna make everyone bawl their eyes out, so better next year than before this year ends.

Edit: oh and these needs to be some small Iwata tribute. It can't go unsaid.

I like how the crux of the article this thread is about is "Nintendo probably has nothing to show."

But people are still thinking Krusty is coming.

I bet Nintendo's going to take us to Tijuana, too.
