PS+ Games For December (Kings Quest, Gauntlet, Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, SSX)

Incredibly Naive
LOL at the ps4 lineup, for shame. The rest is top tier however. Ssx is a great throwback, and far cry I'm excited to try.

Is Freedom Wars primarily a multi-player/online game or is it fun in single-player as well?

Only reason I'll resubscribe is probably for this game.

You can play most of it single player, but it really shines in multiplayer. You'll also progress much more quickly with human allies. A few missions are borderline impossible without going online.

I was wondering the same thing. It looks fun, but I really only play my Vita on the train to/from work so online isn't for me.

Probably the worst month for PS4 in PS+ history. The PS3 and Vita are having a good month at least, though I already have Freedom Wars.

Time to finally give Freedom Wars a try. Also, PS Plus is great for co-op/multiplayer games. Now a lot of my friends will have Gauntlet, might as well try it.

Another shit month for Ps4 plus.

Nice bait and switch guys. You convinced us to not complain too much that Plus would be mandatory for online play this gen because of how incredible Ps3 Plus was at that time, only to give us a shit service for over two years now, with only a few exceptions. And it was fine for the first year, I don't expect to get AAA games for free that just came out.

But now this year the only Plus game I've really loved that I didn't already own through some $5 or less Steam sale has been Rocket League. It's been two years, and it is long past time that we should have been regularly getting at least earlier Ps4 retail titles on the Service.

Freedom Wars is awesome, but if you have a Vita and HAVEN'T played that, it probably means your Vita has been sitting somewhere gathering dust. With only a few major titles on that platform, it doesn't make much sense to miss that one until now if you are an active Vita player. But maybe I'm wrong.

Gauntlet is based on the old one? That'll get me to try it. though I'm not expecting much.

Kings Quest seems interesting enough.

Freedom Wars was initially disappointing until I remembered that I'd traded it in ages ago and regretted it.

Already have Blood Dragon but I'm not sure anything they could give would make me boot up my PS3 nowadays (Except Stick of Truth, Why isn't that on PS4?)

Average month I guess, I don't expect anything else these days. Still great value though.

Well congratulations! You got yourself caught!
That sounds cool, I can appreciate them having different playstyles since in the original games they were all pretty similar. Is there any character that's just objectively the worst and that you should avoid?

Not really, all are viable and work well together. I spent a lot of time trying each out. Initially everyone will gravitate to the Elf because its the most accessible(dual stick arrow shooting! Hit trigger to place bomb!)

The other three are far more demanding in figuring out their timing windows for cooldowns, reach, animations, etc... I really ended up digging Valkyrie and Warrior a lot over time, but again early impressions are going to be a rough once the general populace gets their hands on this game since mashing buttons will mostly get you killed with the melee types. Valkyrie is a defensive player that requires constant shield use over wholesale slaughter. The Warrior is more meaty, but requires more hit and run tactics with his charges(until you get timings down again).

The wizard is Magicka-lite, but can get really awesome...once you unlock his "other" spell types. His initial loadout can turn off most. (Most heroes outside the elf improve vastly with unlocks).

All told, its an acquired taste and not the Gauntlet most will want or expect. Rewarding with time and patience, but you know that isn't exactly what the franchise ever was.

I finally get to try Freedom Wars. Greg Miller has talked about this game quite a bit and I was curious to see how it turns out.

Yeah - you are wrong. I own a Vita, play it regularly, have a pretty big library and don't own Freedom Wars. I'm like a unicorn.

really wanna try king's quest and gauntlet, so I'm happy those are plus games now. can't say SSX is a good choice, though. even for the price of nothing it's too expensive...

Very happy with the month. I probably would have dropped $10 or so on Gauntlet in a sale, so that's $10 value right for one game. The rest, plus additional sale discounts, puts me wayyyy over on value for the couple buck a month I spend for it.

Wanted to try Kings Quest and almost bought Gauntlet last month, so I'm happy about that. Might try Freedom Wars too, but I don't really know much about it.

Thought Emoji Movie was good. Take that as you will.
I guess if you have a PSV and haven't played Freedom Wars.. it's a fun game, flawed, but fun.. and for free.. why not.

The rest though.. hmm.. well.. yeah..

Wow, people are actually upset about King's Quest? It's the first PS4 game in months I've actually been excited for. 5 hour point & click adventure game with good reviews & much higher production values than is norm for indie games or the genre. By all accounts, it's drastically better than Telltale's episodic fare.

It's sort of Monster Hunterish, but with a cool dystopian sci-fi setting, guns & grappling hooks, and some great music. One of the better games on the Vita and a big step up from what we've been getting on PS+ for Vita lately.

LOL and some of you thought they would give us Little Big Planet 3 PS4 this month. :)

It makes a ton of sense as it has a large amount of paid DLC. Hell, the game probably should have launched as a free to play game in the first place.

After Broken Age and TWD I am more than a little burned out on adventure games.

IMO the Vita games were shite. Freedom Wars I am really excited for. Don't care for the PS4 games, maybe I'll try them, but I have so many PS4 games to play right now.
