I would think if it was verified to be real, every other post wouldn't be wondering if it's real or not.

That's like every other leak post dude.

I just didn't know if this got debunked. If it didn't and it's real it could be the handheld, I hope.

If it's the main console controller and it is real this will kill Nintendo. It will be possibly virtual boy all over again.

Maybe for mobile games and such this controller makes sense. But for everything else it's a horrid design.

Would a camera on bottom of the controller even work? I imagine it would mainly take pictures of your crotch instead of your face.

I don't think Nintendo has a history of taking down leaks (correct me if I'm wrong).
After all if it's indeed real taking it down would be a sure confirmation for everyone.

Trev's leaks are nowhere to be found on his website now. He himself is also MIA.
But the leaks are not taken down until a few days after they are published.

Iwata did say that NX would absorb the Wii U architecture. Maybe he meant not in computer spec terms but more in terms of design.

This is what Iwata said

For example, currently it requires a huge amount of effort to port Wii software to Nintendo 3DS because not only their resolutions but also the methods of software development are entirely different. The same thing happens when we try to port Nintendo 3DS software to Wii U. If the transition of software from platform to platform can be made simpler, this will help solve the problem of game shortages in the launch periods of new platforms. Also, as technological advances took place at such a dramatic rate, and we were forced to choose the best technologies for video games under cost restrictions, each time we developed a new platform, we always ended up developing a system that was completely different from its predecessor. The only exception was when we went from Nintendo GameCube to Wii. Though the controller changed completely, the actual computer and graphics chips were developed very smoothly as they were very similar to those of Nintendo GameCube, but all the other systems required ground-up effort. However, I think that we no longer need this kind of effort under the current circumstances. In this perspective, while we are only going to be able to start this with the next system, it will become important for us to accurately take advantage of what we have done with the Wii U architecture. It of course does not mean that we are going to use exactly the same architecture as Wii U, but we are going to create a system that can absorb the Wii U architecture adequately. When this happens, home consoles and handheld devices will no longer be completely different, and they will become like brothers in a family of systems.

Still, I am not sure if the form factor (the size and configuration of the hardware) will be integrated. In contrast, the number of form factors might increase. Currently, we can only provide two form factors because if we had three or four different architectures, we would face serious shortages of software on every platform. To cite a specific case, Apple is able to release smart devices with various form factors one after another because there is one way of programming adopted by all platforms. Apple has a common platform called iOS. Another example is Android. Though there are various models, Android does not face software shortages because there is one common way of programming on the Android platform that works with various models. The point is, Nintendo platforms should be like those two examples. Whether we will ultimately need just one device will be determined by what consumers demand in the future, and that is not something we know at the moment. However, we are hoping to change and correct the situation in which we develop games for different platforms individually and sometimes disappoint consumers with game shortages as we attempt to move from one platform to another, and we believe that we will be able to deliver tangible results in the future.

Just thought of something.....

What if Nintendo put this out, or someone from Nintendo/ or a studio who doesn't agree with the Design put this out to get people's reactions so the company would know how bad of a design it is?

So it will get changed?

Regarding the name, If i were Nintendo, I'd just call it Nintendo NX. The naming marketing is already done.

Nintendo NX Pocket
Nintendo NX Home

not recently.

3 years ago Iwata stated their plans. Meanwhile, we did not have one believable hybrid rumor. Its forum drivel.

That joke already has been made.

Wildcard berths that can't beat teams without a winning record should have homefield advantage
If that really is the controller Nintendo is gonna be out of the hardware business in three years.

Check the Wii remote reveal thread for similar statements.

"you will say wow" new nintendo console titled the Nintendo Wow

I'm gonna go play wow.

Which one?

Regarding the name, If i were Nintendo, I'd just call it Nintendo NX. The naming marketing is already done.

Nintendo NX Pocket
Nintendo NX Home

That's what people said about the revolution. At least "Café"/"Dolphin" sounded like a code name and wasn't marketable.

Check the Wii remote reveal thread for similar statements.

Except this has a screen, like the gamepad, which caused the price of the Wii U to stay high. You'd think they'd have learned from the gamepad. I'd bet this is the handheld (that can be used as a controller if you want).

Yup!

Which is why I really hope it's fake or an old prototype, that they are not using.

I want the NX to be a hit for Nintendo so I can buy a Nintendo system again.

That's a really dumb controller. I hope it's fake.

The extra screen size is near-useless since it'll be covered up.
"But it's okay because the main action still fits in the middle"
So now you've just added a lot of expensive-to-manufacture, performance-sucking (both in battery-life and GPU-rendering terms) screen pixels that are mostly useless.

And the obvious question is who wants this? Who would look at that and think, "What a brilliant idea, please take my money!"

Controls that take up a large part of the screen is one major thing that sucks about smartphone gaming. Are Nintendo trying to make their handheld business model as obsolete as possible?

Having the alternate design that someone mocked up (sticks at the bottom screen edge, with two small oval hand holds) is better in every conceivable way.

The extra screen space is necessary for interface elements. From what I understand there will be context sensitive interface options depending on the situation. Its not really useless when you have no face button whatsoever. And I think this is the console controller, not the handheld controller.

The photo in the OP looks like a really bad Photoshop to me.
Lighting on the sticks doesn't even look right, considering they have a screen under them.

If it is real though... It looks abysmal.

Im still all in that if this is real it's the handheld. Not having physical buttons for a home console. can be a problem because yuou are not looking into the controller constantly to fiure out which button to press or where are they.

not recently.
And how much time, do you think, is required for finalizing a techincal concept, finalizing the hardware components and devkits, finalizing the tools and getting stuff in production?

Just because no one denied that hybrid theory in the last 4 months doesn't mean that it's now going to be a hybrid. Kimishima has been president for 6 months, you honestly can't believe that he changed anything fundamental about the systems basic concept.

Yeah, honestly i haven't been following NX rumors, and I didn't know Nintendo basically patented this exact thing (i thought the sketches in the OP came with this leak) so even if this isn't it's final form I guess we can expect something similar.

This is a rather good fan mockup of what the thing could work like
https://youtu.be/udkU101fFOk

It looks sort of cool, i'll admit.
Still I don't see the freeform screen offering possibilities far beyond those of the Wii U controller, or anything else that used a regular 16:9 screen.
Should really double as a handheld to be attractive imho.

Sorry for reposting my own image again, but think of it like this:

I never minded the idea of the whole freeform-display innovation on a control but I have to say I'm quite impressed by how natural the idea feels if executed as well as in these fan mock-ups and I hope the real thing comes close if not being better :D

As for the leaked image, no matter how much I look at it I can't make sense of the contents of the display at all o.o

That joke already has been made.

I wasn't joking?

What if a developer from them or third party has it and hates programming for it, or doesn't agree with it's design in how it works for their game/development.

That's a legit thing I would argue could be a possibility a very, very low almost impossible one, but a possibility none the less.

It's upside down.

It isn't actually. The shoulder buttons can be seen on the opposite side to the camera, plus the "B" button is the correct way up if the camera is on the bottom...

Wouldn't matter if it's on the bottom though. Just would need to be ever so slightly angled to make sure it's pointing at your face rather than chest ;)

I'm not saying it is going to be a hybrid, just that a 3 year old denial isn't as rock solid as some may think. That, and I'd rather have a hybrid. :p

They'd have a small amount of time to change the design before production begins. So no.

Kind of looks like it's supposed to fit into something else rather than be used exclusively as a handheld device.
Doesn't make much sense having a circular screen for a VR-headset or the like though does it?

Edit: Wait, weren't there rumors that the NX would use a bendable screen?

People have been saying this for so long.

They still make money and systems.

They lost a lot of money on the Wii U and the 3DS numbers plummeted compared to the DS with no reason to believe a successor wouldn't sell even worse as mobile is now dominant. If the NX doesn't hit, their shareholders aren't going to let Nintendo squander their ability to sell lots of games on poor selling hardware anymore.
