How the screen with holes for buttons could work:
https://patentscope.wipo.int/search/docservicepdf_pct/id00000028323665/APBDY/WO2015029704.pdf

The pics are near and in the end of the document.

This looks so terrible. Why would you want to remove the feedback and ability to muscle memory a a button, in order to stick a button inside a screen. It's like the worst of both worlds. Unless they're going to carve some physical feedback (etching, etc.) into the face of the glass, which sounds extremely not fun to play with long term.

This whole 'get rid of buttons' movement is entirely baffling to me. It's like having a pair of shoes without soles. "Look how inventive! They're shoes without soles! it's like you're barefoot, but you're wearing shoes!" What exactly is the point?

If the point is to make the interface changeable/customized to the game, I think there could be better use of development and research time. Unless it's only for the handheld, which then you would be constantly looking at the controller.

Haha wow. How do you do this.

Haha

the fact that the topic is still going on, is somehow amazing and points to a possible credibility of the source of the leak, imho.

Kimishima flat out said the Wii U name sucked and he never liked it. Wii as branding is dead.

That and Nintendo is not going to go back to a single analog stick.

He never said any of that. Just FYI.

That's the great thing about headline culture. Everybody reads the clickbait headline, nobody ready the follow up corrections.

A mid-September Nikkei story suggested he did, but Kimishima says he was responding to a life-to-date sales comparison question, and that his answer was misunderstood.

“The Nikkei reporter’s question to me was ‘The Wii U is not selling at this point in its lifetime as well as the Wii was at the same time. Why is that?'” says Kimishima. “And my answer was that the Wii at this point has sold over 100 million units worldwide, and even through there are people saying ‘Hey, since the Wii was so successful, Wii U is also going to be successful and it’s also going to sell like wildfire as well,’ I looked at that global install base and said that it might not sell as well. That was my response. Not that it wouldn’t sell, but that it would be more difficult because of the install base of the Wii itself.”

“The point that I was trying to get across was that Wii has sold so much and is being played by so many people, it’s not going to be easy to make them leave that and come to the next system. That was my only point, that it was a difficult task for us to bring those consumers from Wii to Wii U. But unfortunately it doesn’t look like my message got across clearly.”

Shit's still the worst kind of fake, though.

I guess it saying [DESTRUCTOID] in the title despite them having nothing to do with the rumor does give it some credibility at a glance.
Too many small mistakes for it to seem real to me, tho.
I guess we'll see in (hopefully) April

Well, I think Nintendo always sparks a flame here on Gaf, especially when we're this close to a reveal of a new console noone really have any clue about.

Personally, I would really love to see a hybrid even though that's highly unlikely. To have Nintendo's best teams working non-stop on one single system, and to have great third party support like the 3DS have in Japan on the go, in the "same" quality as a home console..... I mean, I'm allowed to dream about that, right? The reveal will probably demolish my dream console, and I'll cry.. but still buy it at day one, even though I dont see why I need it.

Damn you Nintendo!

This has been discussed a lot.
And the nice thing is... you do *not* actually need a hybrid to achieve that goal.

"Savonnette" I could bought (it's french for "soap", so... whatever), but has the Wii name on it, so no. It's a dumb fake

Wait orgen is the real deal. Hold me gaf. In a month we will know. BELIEVE

In a month, we will know something. Keep your expectations low. It could just be the name and/or concept. It could be more, but then you can be happily surprised, Manuel.

I think savonnette was about the first pic, and the one with Wii on it is an entirely different, and definitively fake, pic.

I only said that we'll get more NX info before E3. I think (and now this is personal opinion) it'll be more related to a full reveal than a "we're working on it and we'll see more at E3" so that's why I said that I don't know if this new info will be in the briefing meeting or a separate direct.

But you can bet that you're going to get more NX info before E3.

And yeah, I love winking ;D
Well, obviously, considering Mr. Kimishima said that himself. Not with those words, but still.

Clarification: See the bolded.

If this is real, I hope it's only a prototype and not what the final hardware will exactly be like, or that there's some special feature we're not seeing in this photo. Because if not, I just don't see the point of releasing a console that's seemingly so similar to the smartphones their potential customers already carry with them everywhere. I don't think Nintendo could be that foolish, at a time when this console's release is so important to them, so I have to lean towards there being something more or different in the final product than what we see in this photo -- again, assuming this photo is real at all.

It's a given we'll get some NX information prior to E3. The amount of information and type of information remains a mystery. But anyone predicting or teasing NX info prior to E3 is stating the obvious.

But... there was a wink. With a big smile!

I don't know, Orgen has spoken. Now I expect everything.

Orgen is the crocodile, and we are all the ATV.

Which comment are you referring to? Just that we won't hear anything more until the next FY? Not that I'm skeptical we'll hear something prior to E3, just curious.

Mr. Kimishima said this in the Q&A session of the Third Quarter Financial Results Briefing for Fiscal Year Ending March 2016:

As for new businesses, we will present further information when we go into details about our forecasts for the next fiscal year. We do not plan to speak about NX today. We continue development and planning efforts for NX in preparation for launch, so it will require additional investment.

Nintendo has many ways to improve its next controller:
-adding a calibration screen for sticks
-make sure it has all the standart imputs, including analog shoulders
-make it mate! glossy plastic is a nightmare to keep clean
-Wii U pro controller battery life should be the standart

I just hope they adress to issues before thinking adding no necessary stuff

Why do people use this thread still being open as evidenced that the picture is legit? That's the weakest evidence someone could come up with.

I'm done checking this thread everytime it goes on top of the first page. I've been looking forward for NX news since january 1st and I'm just tired of speculations. Will freeze till E3.

There will be news at the next inverstor meeting, as small as these might be like projected profits/expenses and stuff.

After this very long wait I hope nothing of the NX in terms of what it actually is and looks like gets leaked before Nintendo is ready to reveal it. Nintendos been building this up since pretty much E3 2015 (at least if feels like).

10 days before the end of this Fiscal Year, expect tons of news at that date
yeah, yeah, April Fools

Well they posted a financial briefing for the New fiscal year on April 27th or something right?

I wonder if inside sources and leakers will get a bit more bold once April 1st passes

Not looking forward to the day of April 1st though :(

I'm okay with another Wii U pro-controller as the main controller.

At the very least I expect NX to support all peripherals, addons and controllers they have made thus far.

Its not like it would be hard and since there is a rumored NX version of Smash 4 I can only imagine the GC adapter will be supported along with any other USB add on

Wii Cross? Yeah, no, that's not going to happen.

The word cross has a lot of religious connotations. Nintendo wouldn't risk that kind of negative press. Despite the word having another meaning, it'd be like having the swastika has their logo. It's a symbol of luck, but mostly connected with the Nazi.

Also, as many have said, the Wii brand is most assuredly gone from their console naming.

I'm kind of digging that logo, though.

Remember these Wii U leaks? This was back when it was still Project Cafe. They seem legit and they looked exactly like the patent.

Definitely fake, Ninty usually goes with the plastic toy look, at most a little gloss applied like in recent times.
