Gafia 2: The Bride of Gafia |Mafia OT| One Wedding, Many Funerals

That's true, but I think that resolved itself - I mean, I finally was able to get in.
Just a data point to possibly look at
Also, after going through CzarTim's posts (yes, I know he was affected by the memcache shit, so I evaluated accordingly), he doesn't really poke his head in that much (again, yes, i know, constrained to mobile), talking only about how the people discussing the map were probably scum. Basically, I looked at the "strategic meatiness" of his posts and found lacking upon further review.

Hi all, I was at church so i couldn't do anything and then there was dark souls 3...

So I'll do some quotes in order

Alright, I think I've let you guys stew long enough. I'll do the full role reveal.

I'm ScraftyDevil, the Wedding Planner. I have no idea where this flavor even came from, but I'm apparently the person who chooses the seating arrangement. During the day phase, I can decide to randomize the seating arrangement of 1 table of my choice before actions are taken. The flavor is that I had already rearranged the labels on the place settings during the day phase. However, I have to do it in a hurry so I just kind of throw them around quickly. Anyone targeted will have their action redirected to another player at that table at random (I assume Retro does a new seating arrangement for my ability when I use it, based on what he's told me.) That's about all I'm told about the map function. So, you can see why this would be mutually disruptive for all parties. The outcome could be beneficial if the mafia end up accidentally using abilities on each other.

I have a theory, based on the limitations on this ability, that there may be someone else with a similar ability in the game. However, that's just a hunch and I don't know who it would be.

I don't have to use it, but I figured what better way to use it than maybe have mafia miss a kill on the first night.

Ok thats fine. I think the ability sounds pretty interesting. What I further assume is the fact that this PR is more aligned to neutral cause it can basically screw either town or scum since it is completely random.

At this point since you revealed the role, you should probably use it due to the fact that scum will probably try to target you on the first night now. And since its one shot, you probably will have a better chance of living through the night as well.

So yeah launch i'm all up for you using that ability today.

I'm not liking this "second round" of Launch discussion. So the thread died for a while (because of the memcache error? I was afk for a good part of yesterday so I didn't notice), but then we conveniently circled around and continued discussing Launch? I don't see there being much point to discussing his role, I actually thought it was pretty straightforward - one of our tables will be shuffled before other PRs act, and we'll see our new arrangement tomorrow (barring other seat-switching mechanics, which no doubt there will be).

I have my vote on Gryvan, and I think I will be keeping it there. His only big post so far was a "table layout theories" collection that sounded like a mix of obvious and odd ways PRs could target. Then he quoted that post almost immediately after and some of the others people were posting to provide a "table theories summary". Other than that, it's all been fluff or uncertainty (couldn't decide who to target between Salva and Roy, said he wasn't sure if he believed Launch, etc).

Gryvan, I'd like to see you place a vote. Even if your first vote was semi-random between Salva and Roy (has anyone else voted for an adjacent player so far?), I would've expected you to replace it when you removed it, not just keep it to yourself.

Fake edit: I may have missed it, but what was your rationale for reducing your pool of first-vote candidates to your seat neighbors?

This tunneling of me is so unreal...I'm like...I JUST posted my theory on the map in that 1 post and bam some people in here think this is a red fucking flag right off the bat...

I mean sure I guess its way too over the top in the first 24 hour but like i said ad nausaum...WE DON'T HAVE ANYTHING TO TALK ABOUT! AND HALF THE POSTS WERE BASICALLY FLUFF.

if your gonna base this off and assuming me as scum...oh boy do I find you the most suspicious thing in existence...

I can understand Scrafty's reasoning that it can be used as a smokescreen but let me ask you this, has it ever occurred to you that scum can use this "map theory" to put the blame on people honestly trying to figure out this whole map shenanigans?(sorry i didn't read DR or whatnot and i don't have the time to read DR to see how maps work...)

I don't think that speculating the map is inherently bad, but Scrafty did raise a valid point that it's a good smokescreen for the scum to seem active and contributive to the game, when in reality all they do is make lot of noise. For examply Gryvan, who is the most suspect due to it, has completely disappeared from the game after his lot-of-noise posts regarding the map. He hasn't even posted about Launch's claim at all.

well mr. bear now I did :D

So my top suspect right now off the bat:

Fireblend
CzarTim
ScraftyDevil

Fireblend tunneling me on that last post makes me really suspicious about his motives...

CzarTim wanting to just lynch anyone who started on the map theory stuff...

ScraftyDevil is pretty low on my list but still suspicious not because she mentioned about how map theory is a smokescreen for scum but after she said she was free of responsibilities, she disappeared again

feel free to look at this post and point me to any illogical reasoning so i can correct myself

Haha well this ridiculous overreaction doesn't do anything to change my opinion of you. You seem to be flip-flopping here between whether there's stuff to discuss or not - you seem to acknowledge both Launch's claim and the map theories are worth discussing, after all.

About your over-the-top paranoia, you offered some theories on the map, which were responded to in what I thought was a reasonable way, and you think that meant other people were onto you? I didn't notice anything particularly hostile about the responses you got, if anything it seems like you've got a bit of a persecution complex :p

And my own post wasn't meant to be that hostile either, day 1 is just a whole lot of poking and that's what I did. I'd rather focus on someone I find odd for now and pursue that instead of poking lightly at multiple players who know the vote will probably not stick.

You also conveniently ignored my 2 questions, so yeah, not what I was expecting at all but I guess valuable for my own reads nonetheless.

Well, it seems I'm finally able to rejoin the party. Machines these days are so very prone to failure...

Initially I was most suspicious of gryvan due to his multitude of fluffy comments and only real discussion being about mechanics rather than suspicion. I was writing up a formal indictment but then I went outside to have a smoke and was locked out of the reception hall overnight. It seems that since then he's contributed more, so I'll cut him the smallest bit of slack for now.

nin, on the other hand, seems to barely have done anything since last we met.

Show yourself, illusive one. Who do you suspect? And don't just say "everyone" like last time; I have no patience for men who are indecisive.

At this point, the only ones I really trust are Launch and Fireblend. Everyone else is ambiguous with the exception of whom I mentioned above.

Why Fireblend? He's been prodding a bit, but nothing has really stood out to me as "trustworthy," or whatever the equivalent feeling is on D1.

Launch I can understand, but it's really just tentative trust until we see what happens at the start of D2. His ability is definitely of neutral utility (that doesn't mean he is neutral-aligned, however), so in theory I could see him being on either side. The fact that he's been up front about it leads me to think Town, for now, though.

Fireblend's accusations make sense, and they align somewhat with my own thoughts. He's given me no real reason to distrust him either, which is a plus. I do like a man who's determined and knows what he wants.

Everyone.

Jokes aside, atm i dont really have a "hunch" on anyone. I felt kind of bad that you called me out only because i tried to get my head around the map mechanic. Like someone else already said there was nothing else to talk about. Better stay silent next time and then call someone else out because they started talking. Well you cant make everyone happy so i take that. Atm i Trust no one, i cannot trust anyone since no one has been confirmed. It makes me chuckle that you "trust" fire and launch though. At this stage i dont have any intentions to go after launch but to say i "trust" them i a bit much wont you agree "luv" ?

It's still day one. It's OK to not have a strong feeling on anyone.

That being said, here's my impressions of a few people:

ScraftyDevil - Seems to be trying to find a tree to bark up
Gryvan - Has focused on table mechanics, then had a pretty strong reaction after getting called out on it
Launchpad - I don't think he's scum, but he's got kind of a neutral vibe going on

Yeah, that's not a great look for scrafty at all. I don't see how you can "really trust" anyone on day 1 unless you have more information thanks to your or their role. This does comes over a bit as a scum attaching itself to a towny for the advantages Burb already explained. Her calling Nins post about not trusting anyone day 1 "incoherent rambling" doesn't help with this feeling.

It wasn't the not trusting everyone that was rambling, it was the refusal to give any thoughts and instead tell me to "step my game up" for no reason. He seems perfectly fine to simply act flippant in the face of very simple questions and I find that concerning at best.

I may have missed it, but what was your rationale for reducing your pool of first-vote candidates to your seat neighbors?

I looked at the map mechanic as a symmetric circular table that could have been broken into parts

Initially I was also gonna add that the person across the table of where you are can also be targetted but when i looked at the map again it was not drawn to scale so I removed that and just assumed the next logical course of it to be adjacent to each other.

However now that I think about it, it is EXTREMELY restrictive for a PR to be in that situation cause he/she will not have a lot of freedom targetting people. So that sounds highly implausible of a theory

It's still day one. It's OK to not have a strong feeling on anyone.

Another note on Mr. Bear

because of me speculating about the map, only 3 or so people object to it that it was overly too out of the box theoretically improbable nonsense...(which is true)

hence they should have just moved along and ignored me a bit because its too much ridiculousness and should have just continued on towards other discussions. I personally stopped myself from further theorizing due to the fact that some of the points were too...farfetched

but nope 2/3 objected, 1 said we should just lynch the map theorized peoples, 1 tunnelling me,

other one casually saying yeah map theory person(s) are too suspicious and considered a cover for scum so i'm gonna keep my eye on you (I mean this is true and all but it didn't sound like you were backing up those words and instead letting town decide about it)...

so i guess overall, it was a good bait....

Regardless of intent, I am curious of the people that jumped on the Scrafty and gryvan train. That's not to say the neither of them (Scrafty/gryvan) could be scum, but it could be a place for scum to hide, in the middle of the discussion.

I haven't really had any just yet (well, I haven't vocalized them).

He's honestly one of two things in my mind. Misguided, unfortunately-maligned Town, or Scum that is acting a little paranoid (sorta like my D1 in AC).

I don't think there's inherently anything WRONG with discussing the mechanics of the map, but it is a pretty benign thing to discuss on D1, when we literally have zero factual information on how the map works (other than Launch's supposed ability). Personally I think he's the former - a townie that just got caught up in the discussion. Granted, his OMGUS vote on Fireblend isn't helping my thoughts, but I'm still currently giving him the benefit of the doubt for the time being.

I hope to have a better read on him by day-end, similarly for the rest of the players.

No, you're right. It's definitely just one of many possibilities, and I could totally be wrong. But c'mon, it's D1. Heck I don't even read these as hostile like wtf?

I'll be honest, anyone pushing theories exceptionally hard this early on is going to pique my suspicion. It's a perfect way for unscrupulous characters to give the illusion of activity without having to actively point fingers.

Thats either just laziness or you are some highly suspicious individual...when i saw previous posts of czartim, it was basically fluff...and basing his encouragement of lynching either of the three through how overreactive the theories are...

and I am not gonna quote fireblend's tunnelvision mode of me cause I already said stuff from a previous post

The main purpose of discussing the map is to either

a) Stealthily drop hints if you are a PR, so you can claim later.

b)Try to get scum to drop info they shouldn't so you can hunt them later.

I honestly why people seem too eager to shut down map conversation, you either know shit or you don't, so exposing your theories about maps is as good as ScumReads™

I think people who are going after people because they talked about the map are suspicious, personally. Normally, speculation about stuff like this is fine, at least in the other games I've played, but now apparently it's taboo to some people here. Disclaimer being I have not read either AC or DR, so I don't know if this is just a repeat of what happened there.
Literally what I did as scum in DR was try to control the information on the map mechanic so town would go down the wrong path.

Either you know for a fact how the map works or you are wasting everyone's time while trying to look like you're contributing.

the thing about fight club i'm guessing they dont allow weapons because that would be unfair.

some people love weapons. pirates. americans. ninjas. none of them would be allowed in fight club

He's still worth keeping an eye on and I wouldn't object to seeing him go today, but my suspicions lie mostly on nin right now.
