INSIDE is out in 2 days - Where's the hype?

Jesus, working on the same project for 6 years? After this, I hope the devs get recognition as well as some well deserved rest.

I can't wait to play this, I'm so glad it's rather under the radar. I want to remain as unspoiled as possible.
Yup, Playdead began work on "Project 2" in 2010

Some perspective. Rain World has been in development for 5 years. Heart Forth Alicia, 9+ years. Stardew Valley, 5 years. The Witness, ~8 years. Ultima Ratio Regum, currently 5 years with an intended dev time of 10 years

Limbo also took 6 years (2004-2010)

A lot of content (SV, TW, URR), fluid/complex animations (RW, HFA), and/or complex art (RW, HFA, TW) take a lot of time.

Isn't that the kind of speedy release-date-to-release that people say they wish more devs did?

You're thinking of "announce to release"

This was officially announced 2 or so years ago. We've heard all but nothing since up until this E3. There was no hype because for the last 2 years we haven't been given much to hype up.

Cuphead has received tonnes of hype because the Devs have been showing the game a lot.

Below won't get any hype either. Capy have been showing jack all since over 3 years ago. I have a suspicion that game has been through all kinds of hell. I'm not sure Capy knows what to do with it anymore.

I thought Limbo was one of the most annoying games last gen with no pay-off at the end so this game is not even on my radar.

This whole being on Xbox first being used as a crutch for games no is talking about is silly. If it was interesting it would be discussed.

I'll be quoting this post again in a couple days.

Hype is overrated as hell. In many cases, it's actually detrimental to a game.

It's hard to get hyped for Inside HOWEVER that isn't to say it won't be great or anything like that, I'm intrigued and I'm sure it will be quality

It's like, you don't get hyped for a film like Brooklyn or Steve Jobs, you just stay interested.

I think hype is for more action packed things or things that are really bombastic, feel free to dispute if you disagree because I can see why someone would

console warrrrrrrrrrzzzzzzz

Anyway, the game's going to be super special. Know what a few of the reviews look like and so it's going to be a loooooooooooooong week until the Steam release.

I dunno, Limbo was amazing, this looks amazing, but hype definitely has been low. Wish it was getting more attention, but it's been sorta under the radar.

Not a fault of its own, but it doesn't feel like a game that garners much hype in the traditional sense. Part of the allure will be the mystery, so I imagine there's a chunk of people not wanting to pore over footage and screenshots. Guessing it'll have a minimalist narrative in the same vein as limbo, so it'll be hard to grasp discussion outside of setpieces and gameplay.

The other 'hype' killer is the split release which breaks up the zeitgeist in a weird way. I feel like this happened to Unravel with EA Access as well where 'release hype' can't last throughout the point until the general public can play it.

Thanks for reminding me. I think they need a demo, I wasn't sold on Limbo until I tried the demo, then it became one of my top GOTY candidates that year. Inside seems to go for the same slow-moving dark and unsettling theme which you really don't know is for you until you try it.

Hasn't Below been playable at a ton of different events?

Honestly, I kind of disagree. Most people have played Limbo by now, and those who haven't probably just did since the game was free or already have it in their library through some bundle. Considering the most common description I've seen is basically "Remember Limbo? This is that, but bigger and better", Limbo is almost the perfect demo. Gives the sense of what kind of game Inside will be without spoiling the atmosphere or any moments.

Didn't even hear about it until the Microsoft conference and then they didn't show it. I also don't have an Xbox one so I'll wait for PC I guess.

I can't wait. It's a good week, what with Zero Time Dilemma right around the corner too.

No PS4? I guess I'll pick up the steam version. The game isn't likely to be to demanding of my hardware, right?

Doesn't sound particularly demanding:

MINIMUM:
OS: Windows 7/8/10 (64-bit OS required)
Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.4 GHz, AMD FX 8120 @ 3.1 GHz
Memory: 4 GB RAM
Graphics: GeForce 250 GTS, AMD Radeon HD6570 or equivalent
DirectX: Version 9.0c
Storage: 3 GB available space

RECOMMENDED:
OS: Windows 7/8/10 (64-bit OS required)
Processor: Intel i7 920 @ 2.7 GHz, AMD Phenom II 945 @ 3.0 GHz
Memory: 8 GB RAM
Graphics: GeForce GTX 660, Radeon R9-270
DirectX: Version 11
Storage: 3 GB available space

This thread is starting to look like that pre-release Witness thread where the in-the-know comments started some crazy hype before/after the reviews came out

Limbo was among the most frustrating games I have ever played. I just wanted it be over. And then to have be it over with no real ending was the final insult. I felt about that game the way some people feel about Souls games.
If it was frustrating because of the constant death, that was the point. Like a Souls or SMB, death was a means of learning and, for Limbo, one of the ways of nailing that bleak atmosphere

I'm hype.

Within the next month or so PC is getting INSIDE, ABZÛ, Furi, and Song of the Deep. All of them vary in gameplay pretty drastically and look great in their own ways.
