Riverdale |OT| Teen Peaks (or: Archie's Weirder Mysteries) - Thursday, 9/8c on The CW

I'm part of the "people in general" tuning in for the mystery part of it. Everything you're typing seems to indicate you're reading your own predispositions into what you're looking at online. People continue to contradict your assertions in this thread, but you're ignoring them to confirm your own bias.

You thinking anything does not equate with the general public, or less generally, the fans of this show thinking the same thing.

Basically, you've made up your mind, and no information presented to you will change it. Fine, that's your perogative -- but, constantly posting that why people in this forum like the show is wrong and positing the show is crap is just shitty behavior.

Yeah, you're still not getting something kinda simple. No, people don't keep contradicting my assertions, because I never made those assertions. It's really simple.

When someone says people aren't tuning in for a specific reason, that doesn't mean literally everyone. I don't know how many times such a thing needs to be repeated. This is the way the English language works. You can use context.

How many times does I have to literally say, I am commenting on the viewing public not on gaffers. I said it literally. Its your prerogative to disagree with me, but you're not even addressing the actual argument other than, " I like it." Seems like you're just in a rush to contradict without actually reading my posts.

You can tell me why I'm wrong about my opnion. But saying " gaffers like the mystery" is not an argument, because I never said gaffers didn't. Doesn't change that it's dead mediocre, imo. Haven't read a compelling reason why it's interesting, fresh or unique.

There are three types of people watching this show

1. People who are familiar with the Archie brand

2. People here for the teen drama(see people who also watched gossip girl, and every other show l)

3. People here for the murder mystery

I came because of the Archie brand but they suck at that

at least they got a decent murder mystery going on
4. Thirsty bitches lusting over Archie/Betty/Veronica/the ridiculously attractive cast

I'm pretty sure that you will never find an opinion which will qualify for you as a "compelling reason", because you seem more intent on disqualifying opinions which differ from yours than listening to them. You complain about how people aren't "substantiating" their opinions, but neither are you.
I actually started to write up a list about what I liked about the murder mystery but then I realised you're not worth it because you aren't arguing your opinions in a nice way.

You seem to want something that this show clearly isn't trying to be, and never will be. And you can choose to accept that or not, but it is never going to be your "silly" show filled with Reggie blackmailing Archie to wear a dress (which apparently is funny to you?). And I, for one, am glad it's not.

It's funny. I am counting on this exact show to replace The Vampire Diaries for me, after eight years with the vampires. I'm ready for the school drama! And Veronica sexiness.

It's okay. It has the same problem as the show, where Archie is just not as interesting as his supporting cast. Although if they made show-Archie a klutz, I'd be down.

Probably but it makes up with everything else being Great and as of now it's probably better than the show imo.

I've never read Archie and I'm a pretty big comics guy.

I'm just here for the pretty people and Twin Peaks ultra lite.

It's nothing like the comics though lol but I did not read the comis in years so maybe they changed a bit now...

Hopefully there is a pool scene every week, you know sort of a trademark... ;) ;P

I definitely watch as an old school Archie fan. I love seeing how they are changing the characters and how some, like Sabrina, will eventually be introduced. If she is, then shit will really hit the fan!

I'm up to date on Waid's run, which is very rare for me as I usually wait for ages to read anything. It's very strong. He very quickly builds a world of deep, faceted characters (and Archie).

How many times does I have to literally say, I am commenting on the viewing public not on gaffers. I said it literally.

You don't know jack about the viewing public. Don't pretend you do. You keep talking about 'everyone' and 'objectively'. People aren't taking you seriously because you're terrible at discussing it, you keep trying to project your opinion onto others or treat it as fact and don't actually seem to want to engage beyond shooting others down.

It would've been fine if you said "here's what I'm not feeling..." but instead you went about discussing it in a terrible manner, mostly just for you to say you want more Reggie.

I said it in my previous post already. For the soap elements and the beloved characters. And please try not being so pedantic guys. The you is the rhetorical you. Like people in general tuning in. I'm not reading your mind personally.

A lot of people saying ' but I like it', and not one defense for why its actually good. Not surprised personally. It'd be nice if people actually engaged my opinion of the show rather than devolve into nitpicking words or what I think are irrelevant tangents.

The point is the murder mystery is, I think the murder mystery is crap. And I have a hard time believing many hardcore nerds would care for this show if it wasn't based off Archie. That doesn't mean that applies to every single gaffer, I would hope that goes without saying. Perhaps I'm wrong. I don't think so, though.

It's thoroughly mediocre crime fiction. The soap elements have some life in it, though. Just barely. When someone says no one would watch it, or no one watches it, they don't literally mean not a single soul, just shorthand for relatively very little, get small ratings, etc.

I don't know anything about archie beyond "there's a love triangle." The mystery is interesting enough for me to watch it. Also Jughead is cool.

One of my wife's friends has a strong distaste for the show due to her allegiance to old school Archie.

I think there is a 4th kind of person as well.

4. People who were conned into watching CW shows due to Supernatural and somehow found themselves watching everything they offer now.

I'm dropping this. It's humorless and bland. There's ZERO Twin Peaks in this. The mystery is rote and being doled out at a snails pace.

It's a quality teen soap drama with cheesecake shots, little else.

I just got caught up...
Jason died a week after and not to the gun shot heard that day?

Betty actually has a dual personality and maybe Polly isn't real? Oh man this is getting into Shymalan territory already!

Grundy isn't actually the real Grundy because the real Grundy was an old woman who died a long time ago and this one is an imposter! The twists just keep on coming!

I am kinda digging where this is going. They turned a hijinks, romantic comedy comic into a semi thriller with legit twists. Now I got my theories lined up about "who dun it". This is like my actual guilty pleasure, twists on top of twists combined with good looking actors.

Been a CW lifer since Smallville, but I definitely belong in the last category.

That, and I legitimately appreciate the show's sense of style.

Well I watched Gossip Girl, the OC and OTH. You could say when I was younger I liked teen dramas. So to me it feels pretty retro watching a teen drama and the murder mystery is kind of a nice addition. Some parts and some of the writting is silly, but I will continue watching it.

Top suspects?

I don't want to slut shame but Ethel's name was all over that play book. At least 3 or 4 entries and not all with the same guy. A girl clearly has needs. Maybe she plays too hard and scares off the boys and moves onto the next one. She just went a little far with Jason.

Moose not being blonde is wack.
Grundy being young and nose-flarey was weird, but next week looks interesting.

Overall really enjoying it. Casting for V, B, A and J are all excellent. Josie is great, too.

Melodrama up the butthole, but it's still fun. Great style, too.

I've being watching since they were two separate networks, UPN and The WB. They had Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Star Trek: Voyager, Nowhere Man, The Sentinel, Smallville, Veronica Mars, Felicity, and Angel. The CW has long been the only place to get genre shows, because the big networks tend to avoid the stuff and Syfy stopped completely for a good number of years. (They're back baby!).

But yeah, I watch most of their stuff.

ah. yea I grew up on WB. I think Veronica Mars/sentinel I never watched.

Preach! I remember living back in NY and UPN9 had 'back to back Tuesdays' -- I think Tia and Tamara and The Smart Guy? Or In The House? Moesha? All really excellent shows.

I started with Gilmore Girls and Smallville. The Ostroff era was tough, man. I need my teen dramas to have Riverdale style self awareness at least. Bless Pedowitz for going full genre and cultivating strong creators.

The Vampire Diaries got me hooked to The CW. So I'm forced to try every new show. Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and Jane the Virgin are the only ones I'm not watching this year.

We used to get UPN comedies where I live. I saw Everybody Hates Chris, Malcolm & Eddie, Moesha, One on One, Shasta McNasty. We got less WB comedies. Only remember Reba and Raising Dad. On the other hand, we did get their drama like Popular, Dawson's Creek, One Tree Hill, Gilmore Girls, Felicity.

Thanks to the mod who fixed the parenthesis on the thread title, the lack of a space after Peaks was killing me lol.

I watch very little comedy week to week nowadays. They go in the 'Wait for DVD boxset' pile. No Tomorrow got the exception because I couldn't not watch Joshua Sasse and Tori Anderson.

Jane's better drama than any of the other CW shows tbh, last week showed the superhero shows how it's done.

I also got into the CW with The Vampire Diaries and ever since I've continued with The Originals, now The 100 and all the superhero shows and Riverdale. I saw the pilot of No Tomorrow and liked it, is it worth finishing? Does it have a fulfilling end? I also really need to get going with both Crazy Ex and Jane the Virgin; absolutely loved the first five episodes of this show.

i still don't understand how Supernatural has lasted this long other than for the same reason Smallville did so still pissed that Veronica Mars couldn't get to season 5
