Bit weird how Jughead kissed Betty and there was literally no reaction for the rest of the episode.

Like, not even an acknowledgement.

The no reaction was the reaction in my opinion. Just after that Betty hears Archie singing and puts on a pining face, and just as Archie is getting closer to Veronica (OMG)

For Jug it was probably about feeling alone. He has no parents, Archie is ignoring him so he went to Betty for comfort.

Nah Archie offered to help but they both turned him down pretty fast

Man it's not even that I love the pairing of Betty and Jughead so much (well I do), I just mainly really hate love triangles, especially a love triangle with a currently very boring Archie

Yeah but after the kiss Betty and Jug go to the talent show and Betty hears Archie sings and has a moment.

I think Betty will always love Archie

Everytime Cheryl isn't on camera, all the other characters should ask "Where's Cheryl?"

Ohh, right - I wondered what that glance up at the device on the wall was meant to be. Must be an American school thing.
That threw me off too. In the previous scene they used the Pussycats performance as background music for Jughead and Betty finding the car, so for a second I wasn't sure why Betty was looking at the speaker because I assumed that Archie's song was just being used in the same way since it was a continuation of their scenes.

And on the sixth day the LORD David Bowie created man and woman in His image. And he saw that it was good. On the seventh day the LORD created videogames so that He might take the bloody day off for once.
and just for fun:

This is the single biggest thing I was hoping to see when entering this thread. Thank you for delivering.

Still enjoying the show but I wish it was just... smarter? Maybe it's because I don't normally watch CW shows or the like but just weird little things bother me. Like, never once did a "talent show" / variety show play over school intercoms when I was in school.

Oh, and as a big fan of the comics, I wish we saw more of the gang. I have absolutely zero interest in the parents when they're all pretty much unlikable and they're nothing like the comic characters. Even though things are different, the kids still look like the kids and kind of act the same. The parents to me feel like filler characters.

Like what is the sample size on this? How many schools and talent shows have you gone to?

That was a great episode. I think Betty's whole family is a bit crazy like she thinks. Veronica is taking a much darker turn due to her mom's actions. Archie and Valerie have a cute relationship which is nice but it obviously won't last long. Betty and Jughead are really fun together and their investigation plot continues to be the most interesting part of the show. The music was surprisingly well done too. All in all, a really solid episode.

Obviously not a big sample size. Just me and my siblings lol. I mean, that was just one example from the last episode. I don't normally watch shows like CSI and stuff where things are exaggerated "wrongly". Like even the texting in this show isn't how people would normally text (and yes, I know texting is hard in shows and movies to get right)!

Lol, I think that's the entire point of Archie, to be modernly campy. And if CW shows know how to do anything, it's be beautiful and campy.

I find the show way better when it focuses on the murder mystery. To each their own. I binged all 6 episodes on netflix. Hate that its a weekly show as its killing me!

Jughead and Veronica are well written/well-acted/my faves so far.

Didn't love the covergirl ad. Also, in I think episode 4 or 5, Betty opens her locker and then never locks her lock and just walks away.

Fred Andrews is almost as good of a dad as Joe West

I never thought of Luke Perry as dad before but he really sells it

100% this. Luke Perry is awesome as Archie's dad. Every scene he's in he knocks out of the park. The casting on Riverdale really is outstanding.

I guess. It just doesn't seem campy in this show to me. It seems like they tried to write a typical drama show to me but idk. I suck at explaining myself sometimes. Maybe I wish the show was more self-aware. Still hoping for a season 2 though!

too bad he's the murderer

And basically this.

Riverdale Showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa Talks Season 1, Comics, and More!

"We also tease who our big bad for season 2 might be. It's someone that has a long deep ties to the Archie Universe. It's definitely a character people know. I think it's a character people want to see coming."

This has to be
Sabrina-related... Fits with the rumors that she shows up at the finale too. Don't think they'd have herself as a villain, but maybe someone associated to her.

That or it's just Hiram.

Anyway, good to see him talking about season 2 like it's a possibility. I'm still hopeful since Warner signed that deal for more original programming based on the Archie comics.

in other news, attractive people:

It's probably Hiram. We've had no casting news for him and he's a major character currently in the background. How can they top all these bad parents? With the baddest.

I want to believe!

But yeah, I'm also leaning towards him. It's all building up to that too with the construction of the mansion on the drive-in lot. It's basically a protracted Archie #1 by Waid, but without Archie demolishing the construction by accident lol.

edit: I think that's what they're going to build there? I don't recall if it was mentioned already.

The land deal goes tits up and the stinger at the very end of the season is Hiram putting on his gauntlet and saying "Fine, I'll do it myself."

Give that moron some time.

Jon Hamm as Hiram Lodge, make it happen.

Look The CW already has enough problems with actors unintentionally having sexual chemistry, and Jon Hamm has chemistry with everyone. Veronica x Hiram might be a bridge too far of weirdness, even for this show.

"STICK TO FOOTBALL!"

Dead, lmao
That line rang true to life haha always jerks like that at schools it seems!

This episode was another great one, my girlfriend and I, some friends and family are all obsessed with this show lol. Betty/Jug fell flat for me. All the Polly plot was great. Betty's mom ripping her dad's masculinity to pieces was hilarious. That family has some serious problems. Can't believe Josie's dad is such a colossal asshole. Unreal. Even more dickish than Ronnie's mom's forgery. I'm firmly on Team Val now. That woman is next level gorgeous among a cast full of gorgeous people. My girlfriend thinks she looks tired...tired of spending time with self-absorbed clueless people maybe.
