It seems highly doubtful that nothing comes from this.

I mean for real, the day before this hearing everyone was saying, "Nothing will come from tomorrow!" "I don't expect anything!"

Well now its confirmed that the FBI is investigating Trump and cronies. Imagine everything we know about this case, now imagine all that's been classified.

The real question is will it land directly on Trump, or did Russia put enough of an air gap between him and their stooges?

Is a foreign national required to declare contact with a foreign national, that once saw a foreign national at a foreign national meeting, which did take place in a foreign nation

While I do hope something substantial comes out of it, Comey himself said that the investigation has been going on since last JULY. This isn't the start. I've just been burned by false hope time and time again, though I do feel more optimistic that something will come of this, finally.

Oh shit, I didn't realize it started that far back. And I understand being cautious after everything that has gone down.

Rush Limbaugh's "reasonings" in this matter are amazing. He is trying to link the idea of any sort of surveillance on trump or the campaign is because of political reason from the Obama admin during campaign. But he can't fully just come out and say it because he wasn't wire tapped. So hes setting the stage, again, of any sort of surveillance on Trump supporters not on grounds of importance because it was "political".

Just tuned in. Who of this committee are actually competent and not Republicans trying to deflect? Just asking, since I'm not too familiar with most of them.

Comey seems to have confirmed the following if you read between the lines:

1- All of their investigations relate to hacking of the DNC.
2- They did not investigate Flynn
3- They did not investigate anything mentioned in the Steele dossier.

You can see that from some of the answers given that were not "no comment": asked about Flynn being paid for speeches Comey said he heard about it in the media (even though he consistently said "no comment" to all other questions about Flynn. When asked about whether Russia has ever succeeded using compromant Comey said yes, when they asked if they ever bugged hotels in those cases Comey said he wasn't aware of that. So it's clear the Steele dossier is one they didn't involve themselves.

Also, they have been eager to answer questions about the DNC hack, but they never comment other than what I mentioned above on anything relating to what could tie to Steele's dossier.

Add to this the fact that Steele has said publicly that he iq going back to work, it appears to me that the whole Steele story is over. It's been buried, and may have jeopardized too many operations and sources and they just want to move on.

I fail to see how you make such a sweeping conclusion based on Comey's testimony.

We know from press reports that Steele was at one point potentially going to be contracted by the FBI. Pretty sure Comey is at least somewhat aware of the dossier, even if he isn't the one in the weeds doing all the financial research on it.

Also don't we know that he got the dossier from McCain?

If not, perhaps this hearing with all the smoke will spur him into being more directly involved with it.

All republicans are deflecting. Except for one (she's a lady republican).

I think you're reading too much into this, honestly. I get the feeling that Comey is an expert at not letting you know anything from his non answers. Part of that is not being caught in a pattern.

I think you've got it all wrong.

I don't think you can make any conclusions about the specifics of their investigation. Comey has been very good at no commenting basically everything in that regard.

Comey said that he only confirmed there was an investigation because the DoJ authorized it. Hes' going to deflect anything that isn't explicitly approved.

Why would you think the first point when almost the first thing out of Comey's mouth was that he thought the public should know that cooperation between the Trump camp and Russia is being investigated?

I missed a lot of this, did they question him why he commented on the emails at that specific moment in time during the election?

Did Stefanik get Comey to admit the RNC got hacked as well? Was this known before? It's the first I've heard of it.
It was known before.

Comey also said that ONLY the DNC hacked material was released. The RNC hacked material was obtained and then not released by the hackers.

Did I just hear Comey wrong?

"If we have to brief Congressional Leaders we have to do that through the executive branch and that's complicated"

Uhhh..That sounds like a megaton to me.
