Aloy is my favorite videogame protagonist in recent memory

What is this pathological desire to 'ship' characters into romances?

They can be complete without them

Leave Aloy be

In the game there were a couple of potential people she could have had a thing with. But it's not like it was needed to go further. But at the same time, there's no problem if she did hook up with someone. I feel like some people get too invested in needing romance or the character needing to be alone. I'm sure sequels will establish a relationship for her.

I agree that she's a pretty good character but the writing in Horizon is completely average, it's just the character visuals are off the fucking chain. Some of the best aesthetic NPC character design I've ever seen.

But yeah, the writing/dialogue is sort of dull and in order to teach the player more about the world, it feels like Aloy is always asking questions.

Its all things that can be improved in a sequel though.

Aloy and Erend's conversations are the best. Great work by the VA's as well all around. I wish some of the writing was a bit stronger in the game but what can you do when you have so much to establish in the game.

I'm not that far into the story but so far she comes off as very detached and sarcastic.

She controls like a dream though, which is important considering how fast those dino-robots are.

Some of the accidental facial animations make me want this character in another game. I haven't played andromeda but his character has taken on a life of her own in my head. Strangely one of my favorite characters this gen. Aloy and 2B are up there, too.

In spite of advice I played Aloy as a heartfelt oriented person, and I loved her that way too.
When I'm done with my current backlog (sumer?) I'm pondering another playthrough to play her as a sarcastic/ antagonistic type.

I didn't get far at all into it before loz came out, but she never struck me as anyone that stood out from say, another nameless space marine. But then again I'm not someone that gives two shits about character development or story for that matter.

As someone who knew about Burch for years through HAWP, it weirds me out seeing her play serious characters. Is the reverse true as well?

Not really, since she was Aloy to me first. Seeing her goof around on YouTube just makes me appreciate her performance in the game more.

She's up there with my favs for sure. I really love how she never apologises for having her own goals, how she protests against everything she doesn't agree with and how she often said what I was thinking.

And I love that her teeth are not perfect. :D

I don't get the negative comments about her VA. I must have missed all the amazing lines of dialogue that Ashly Burch failed to deliver properly.

I think the story in Horizon is amazing and that's mostly what makes Aloy so interesting. That and her legendary sass. But her exchanges with supporting characters, while definitely not horrible, were nothing particularly memorable. Dialogue-wise, the game was closer to your standard open-world AAA than it was to the recents greats like The Last Of Us or The Witcher 3. I don't mean that in a bad way, because Horizon's strengths lie elsewhere. World-building, lore, environmental storytelling, you name it.

Anyway, Ashly Burch conveyed the right emotions when necessary, and never overplayed her lines. She helped to make Aloy a likeable and memorable character despite the pretty mediocre dialogue.

I'll second this, Aloy is a great character. In a very unreal world, she was extremely real and approachable. Her VO did a fantastic job as well as the guerilla wizards that brought her to life.

There's a heart interaction super late in the game that's one of my favorite moments in the game and cemented her as one of my favorite characters in gaming.

LATE GAME SPOILERS:
Picking the heart before you kill Helix. That entire interaction is fantastic .

I didn't find the story average. Maybe average for a non-videogame, but I've found nearly all videogame stories to be mostly garbage. I really enjoyed this one for the story. I actually wanted to listen to recordings, read documents, etc. I never do that.

In my game experience Aloy didnt nothing but follow orders and people tell her what to do instead of say "fuck you Sylens I am gonna figuring out by myself" just like SC2 Kerrigan before turning into a
space god
.

I just realized Ashly Burch is the woman from Hey Ash!

Omg. That silly character voices Aloy? 😂 She must be a great actress outside of comedy. I never knew.

As a young-ish woman who loved Aloy and feel like I finally found a female protag that doesn't apologize nor come off as a cold-blooded killer, I would love to know all those better female protags you claim exists. Especially from this year.

She's smart enough to know that Sylens know what he's talking about and that she might need him, but she never does anything for him that doesn't bring her closer to her own goals. The scene where she asks about his name is a great example of how she's not his little pawn like he wants her to be.

2B is really great. I like Aloy just a bit more though.

Totally agree. She is one of my favourite characters i recently played and cant wait for a sequel.

She is a great designed and well developed character who also can be a new amazing mascot for Sony.

Her design and her personality are fine, but the voice actress did a mediocre job.

I think you played another game.

Ashly Burch did a amazing job and she shows how she became recently my favourite female voice actor in gaming.

Yet Aloy later admits she needs him to know more about her mother because she is clueless about where to look, Sylens exists to push Aloy into the main story quest.

Her design is amazing. She is attractive, yet the design does not follow the idealized (in many cases outright sexualized) "beauty" pattern established by the industry, which is refreshing and very, very welcomed.

The voice acting is amazing. Ashly Burch really nailed the character and her performance was outstanding.

Not seeing it with the bolded, but different strokes for different folks.

The voice actress seems to be fantastic though.

Really? I honestly found Aloy to be one of the most attractive videogame characters I have ever played, if not the most attractive. Her face especially... beautiful. I guess beauty really is subjective, isnt it? Haha
