Xbox Scorpio reveal on Thursday at 2pm UK / 6am Pacific by Eurogamer/DF

I can see where MS is going with this, and on the surface it looks like a good idea, but they seem to constantly forget that everything they do is constantly met with the greatest suspicion of sinister motives. As a result MS and DF should have expected lots of accusations of bias or payola or whatever. MS probably thought "DF is trusted and we think we have a technical winner here, it will be more believable coming from them." and DF thought "This will drive clicks like nobody's business, plus we'd really like to get our hands on Scorpio from a tech-angle". But in the end it's just going to end up hurting DF in some people's eyes and those same people won't believe DF's commentary on Scorpio any more than they would have an MS suit.

Sony fans should be happy about this news if anything. This exclusive and the accompanying distrust it brings will give them ammo to invalidate the results of any head-to-heads that Sony may lose in the months following Scorpio's release.

What is this?

Went to watch Life and came back to the thread to see if there were new developments. Damn it guys, why can't you just hold it together till Thursday?

Yo:

If you think that Eurogamer / Digital Foundry have such low ethical standards that they'd sacrifice their integrity to promote Scorpio, maybe you never had very high regard for them in the first place.

If you suddenly consider this the turning point where you no longer trust DF, maybe consider whether you liked DF only because their coverage tended to be favorable toward your preferred platform?

DF should be keeping MS and their consoles in check, MS shouldn't be using them to advertise and reveal their products.

Haha. Pre-reveal spin spin spin.

I doubt MS would be doing if they were not confident that it would be well received. And that they realize we really want to know this stuff from DF perspective... good for them

Loss of sales

Does that mean Sony sued them in the last gen? Or MS already suing them this gen?

Cuz DF have said bad things about both companies.

They provide a tech analysis. This i presume, and pretty safe to say, will be a tech analysis of new hardware.

They're not the PR company of MS. They got an exclusivity deal to cover the specs first is all.

New Splinter Cell that uses the cloud for multiplayer.

Spyatars

RoboPlato

I'd be in the dick
The conspiracy theories in this thread are bonkers. DF was probably chosen because their own writers and coverage of the PS4 Pro event were far more effective in selling the hardware than anything else. Most people and outlets who watched the stream were meh on it but Leadbetter had a large, in depth write up with glowing impressions and since then they have expanded their coverage to include proper 4K video. This is a product for the tech and performance focused crowd and DF is the best place to deliver that.

We're talking about unreleased hardware, if DF shuts down hype about it in the slightest, you bet MS won't be happy

The specs will be out there for everyone to analyze and the system will speak for itself. There is nothing to pay them to lie about or puff up, lol. But hey, let's just toss all logic out the window just because it's Microsoft and Xbox. God forbid they release a great system.

You lose sales when you put stuff in a bad angle, no ?

In what way on earth would that be grounds for a lawsuit?

If their reporting is accurate, supported, in the public interest, and correctly sourced, they are completely protected under international press freedoms, including for libel and defamation, which I presume are the legal grounds you are citing here.

Like, I knew that this whole thing would crumble the minds of some people but I didn't expect people to go batshit insane this early. If this is the amount of entertainment on Tuesday then Thursday is going to be absolutely fantastic! So many good posts.

Anyway, I wonder what size HDD it'll come with? Or if there are multiple sizes I wonder what the smallest will be? What's the largest configuration now? 2TB, right?

PLEASE be a hint at either OG Xbox BC/ports or a new Splinter Cell. I'm not sure which one id like more.

Would be awesome if it's a hint for OG Xbox SC because that would mean more OG Xbox games would be coming but to be honest I'd rather have a brand new SC game. It's been a while. Have there been any rumors about Scorpio and OG Xbox BC?

If they wanna go super premium, they'll throw in an SSD.

I'd say they'll go min 1TB then higher priced models at 2TB

Digital Foundry just shot themselves in the foot.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about pixel counting culture (I'm an expert), but honor and shame are huge parts of it. It's not like it is in IGN where you can become successful by being a shill. If you screw someone over on pixel count, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is the image quality enthusiast public, after hearing about this, is not going to want to purchase Scorpio, nor will they ever trust Digital Foundry again. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Digital Foundry has alienated an entire reader base with this move.

Digital Foundry, publicly apologize and cancel the piece on Scorpio or you can kiss your business goodbye.

What is this?

I don't think the post is being interpreted in the way I was thinking when I wrote it. Basically, I am saying that:

- MS thought DF would be a good partner to reveal the specs
- DF thought it would be a great story

Simple as that, no shadiness intended. Going on, I wanted to express that:

- Fanboys are going to be distrustful of this
- Fanboys in the future will bring it up when their platform loses head-to-heads. Stupid, sure, but you know some of them will try it.
- MS and DF should have expected that reaction from some people, warranted or not

This took far too long.

The reason why MS went with DF is obvious. DF has a great track record presenting technical facts in a way that targets the hardcore audience.

All MS had to do was say "have a go at it". This is the ideal scenario we have been waiting for ages, yet people are trying to spin it into something negative. The bias of some individuals against Microsoft is very clear.
