I wonder when the failed test was, wouldn't surprise me if this was taken during the wbc.

Edit:
Correction on Marte drug: Nandrolone rarely taken orally, but Deca Durabolin -- which can test + for Nandrolone -- is often orally consumed.

Edit:
Starling Marte, via a statement, says ”lack of knowledge" led to positive test. Nandrolone is an injected steroid.

I have heard this before......

There goes one of my fantasy teams.

I imagine this clears a path for Austin Meadows.

Wow, that's a big hit for the Pirates

But maybe they bring up Meadows and everything is fine? Bucs seem to have good depth
JJ Cooper thinks its too soon.

Before you suggest calling up Austin Meadows to replace Starling Marte, doesn't seem like time yet. Slow start. Few AA/AAA PAs.
Pirates OFs ABs in AA/AAA before callup: Marte (924), McCutchen (1304), Polanco (526). Meadows has 355 currently.
But we'll see. They might wait a few weeks to avoid losing a full season of control.

”I have been informed that I have tested positive in one of the tests that are regularly done in my job," Marte said in a statement released by the Major League Baseball Players Association. ”In this very difficult moment, I apologize to my family, the Pittsburgh Pirates, my teammates, my fans, and baseball in general.

”Neglect and lack of knowledge have led me to this mistake with the high price to pay of being away from the field that I enjoy and love so much. With much embarrassment and helplessness, I ask for forgiveness for unintentionally disrespecting so many people who have trusted in my work and have supported me so much. I promise to learn the lesson that this ordeal has left me. God bless you."

I would love for someone to just to admit to taking them on purpose.

the woeful defense is about to get even more woeful

Frazier and Jaso are both going to get a lot outfield appearances until they figure things out. edit: or like David Todd says they put Frazier in the infield and send JHay to the outfield. Or Jaso at first and Bell (lol) in the outfield.

it's going to be comedic

I would love for someone to just to admit to taking them on purpose.

PEDs are baseball's unforgivable sin, no one can admit it.

Just for debate purposes about the whole steroid era, what if it was actually implemented and allowed by the commissioner and owners? Baseball was in a bad time after strikes and other reasons. Then BOOM Sosa, McGwire, Bonds and everyone else hitting home runs at record paces. Suddenly interest is back and people love the game due to offense and the home runs. Add the fact that a lot of these substances were not illegal before so any edge to increase performance is attempted.

Well the "secret" gets out about steroid use and since it's frowned upon time for Selig and the rest of the higher ups to take action to clean up the game. Just a theory I have.

I don't think it was purposefully implemented by the owners/MLB, but they definitely turned a blind eye to it while it was happening. I don't consider there to be much difference between these two, beyond the first one being explicit while the latter is implicit.

Yeah guess I should have said that instead of implementing it they knew it was going on and just "let it happen" because times were good.

@Pirates
José Osuna has been recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis and will be available for tonight's game in St. Louis.

there you go. Get ready for Clint Hurdle's ultility carousel to rotate players between RF, 1B, and 2B.

Time to sell. What do you want for Cole? Here's a brochure of your shopping options.

this is me, glaring at you

i mean seriously 2018 should be really really good if Cole/Taillon/Glasnow can all pitch to expectations and Nutting spends a little cash to try to ahahahahahaha, sorry, i kill me.

First thing, drop any Cards.

Mike Leake looks good so far although I heard the trend is he starts very well for a month and then starts to tank.

Someone may have dropped Lance Lynn due to velocity concern since he is returning from TJ surgery. He plays better at home than away.

Mike "I didn't steal this shirt" Leake is our Ace

Cmart is probably a good buy, same with Matt Carpenter. I'm a believer in Diaz too. Trevor Rosenthal will also be closer by June.

I think the baseball people are trying to see who's going to get the hottest of hot takes on Marte. Buster Olney: "Marte will now never return Pirates' investment"

My head hurts.

Frazier in RF tonight as expected, Cutch to CF

So I have been getting into baseball this season and so far enjoying it. I don't really know any of the players or teams any more. Are the Cubs still pretty stacked after their WS last year? Any other teams that are supposed to be good this year?

Cubs, Nationals, Dodgers, Yankees, Red Sox, Giants, Astros, Mets and Indians are all supposed to be pretty good this year.

Wild cards are teams like the Rockies, Brewers, Tigers and Rangers.

The rest pretty much suck.

Thanks. I'm currently watching the Jays/Sox game. Looking forward to catching up on baseball again. When I was young I loved the Braves, with Smoltz, Glavin, McGriff, Justice, Chip, etc.
