Damn they got EW on their reactionary behavior
Glad they don't have her saying "SWORD!" or something.

This is predominantly a gaming forum and MvC is one of the most popular fighting gaming franchises ever. That's the only reason Injustice is the underdog. The first Injustice had a decent fighting game community but it never got huge and it didn't last.

I know it doesn't "count" the same but Injustice was/is huge on mobile, why it continued to get support long after the console versions.

And believe 2 is dropping on mobile as well.

I love the runtime, very Dark Knight-ish. which might mean the story is not as cookie cutter as it seems.

I love my long super hero epics.

Nice. If it needs to be that long then let it be that long. WB I hope has learned its lesson and will not cut up people's films anymore. You agreed to the length and not stick to it.

Enjoyed the TV spots quite a bit. Might go somewhat on a blackout. I want to go into this film more blind then I've been able to go into past films. Especially on any negative bs that people try to push as a narrative.

Dat costume. Still amazed it works so well. Wilkinson da gawd. Except for the flash, what the hell Michael.

I think the costume should get some straps and perhaps shoulder armor, just for practicality, running on a strapless leather corset doesn't seem comfortable, I want to bet there were many, ehm, wardrobe malfunctions on set.

I agree with the shoulder armor part, and I also think the tunic/skirt could be a little longer. Not necessarily because I think her legs need to be more covered up, mostly because I think it'd just look better.

Basically just make it like Xena's costume:

What's the problem?

What's the problem with basing marketing decisions for a Wonder Woman movie on a Supergirl TV show that had to switch networks just to get picked up for a second season?

I…seriously?

Why is it ok that DC suddenly decided to play coy with marketing for Wonder Woman? This not the movie to reign the promotion budget in with. Especially after Suicide Squad. It shouldn't be on pace to make as much as a Doctor Strange movie on opening weekend.

Ian the reason Supergirl had to change networks is that CBS or whatever couldn't afford the production cost?

Guys. It's a TV show. Not a summer blockbuster sandwiched between other blockbusters. You don't suddenly switch marketing tactics when you promoted the hell out of your other movies and made bank off of them despite them having poor word of mouth.

If this movie is actually good, and they bothered to promote it, they sky would be the limit. I'm just disappointed they're not backing Wonder Woman the same way they did their other heroes, especially since she was generally thought of as the best part of a movie audiences were pretty divided about.

Them having to switch networks has nothing to do with the marketing. The show started off with good numbers.

Do you really think they didnt spend hundreds of hours and millions of dollars into research of how to market this movie?

We live in a strange time where movies are expected to do an obscene amount of money. 85$million is really fucking good. Dr. Strange did well because of the MCU brand and Cumberbatch, plus the visuals. WW has none of that.

And don't forget they have over a month left. Wait.

I think we're grossly overestimating how profitable this movie could be. Doctor Strange numbers and final gross would be very good.

I think comic fans are biased and think she is capable of Superman numbers, without remembering that she just doesn't have the mainstream appeal yet. This is her first? big movie premiere. Shit needs time to grow.

Seems like WB is really focusing on the female audience and assuming males will show up regardless. So many toys and stuff, they really want the little girls. Hard to say how popular WW is among kids since I dont have any.

Barring some sort of unforeseen miracle, Wonder Woman isn't going to make Suicide Squad money no matter how good it is. It's the DCEU's smallest affair thus far, and will be marketed accordingly.

When all is said and done, I think anything north of $600M should be considered a win.

No way does WW hit 600 million I think. I think WW will hit maybe just over 200 million domestic. I can't see it making up the other 400 million overseas.

I've been mulling over this for awhile. I think WW is kinda old school and I don't know if it's going to hit young people the way it should. That's just me.

She's Wonder Woman. She's one of like 4 super heroes in existence that everybody knows, regardless of their exposure to movies or comics. Only Batman, Superman, and Spider-Man boast a more iconic status. I don't understand ignoring this reality.

She's an icon, but not very popular at the moment. All the exposure from the DCEU will improve her status with time.

So was marvel final fight and contest of champions :p

I don't know which will sell better, and I don't even think MvCI looks better than Injustice 2, but a hardcore gaming community preferring to back the more hardcore competitive game shouldn't be much of a surprise.

Nor should it matter considering how regularly Gaf is wrong about a great many things

People had been saying to mimic Xena and or the gladiator look for so long now and every single time I see a pic of Gal just looking flawless in it I just wish they had updated it in the comics 20 years ago. It really is such a great costume.

I'm loving all the dialogue in Injustice 2. Instead of one line catch phrases, they actually have conversations before the start of the fight. Like when I heard

Batman: I don't have time for this, Damian.
Damian: A good father would make time.
Batman: A better son would deserve it.

I said daaaaaaaaaamn.

It's not a question of popularity. It's a question of icon status. She doesn't have to be popular right now for people to know who she is. Who cares how popular Elsa is; more people on the planet know who Wonder Woman is than Elsa.

I'll ask a question, what superheroine movie could they pull data from?

And Supergirl's launch was highly successful. Bought in over 12 million viewers for the pilot.

I don't see what's wrong with taking lessons from that.

They don't need to pull data from superheroine movies. This is the mistake that Hollywood executives make all the damn time, and it is extremely frustrating watching people here excuse a line of thinking they'd typically condemn. She's a superhero. You market her like any other fucking superhero. Her being a woman doesn't change the fact that she needs a blockbuster marketing budget. The DCEU has 3 films that printed money on the backs of a huge promotion, and they decide to pull back with Wonder Woman? It doesn't make sense, outside of Hollywood doing what they always do when a movie starring a woman or a person of color that they don't seem to actually believe in releases.

White male leads and ensemble pictures aren't the only films worth pushing. People just want to see a good movie. Marvel's not gonna pull back on Black Panther just because they don't have any black superhero movies to compare to. They're gonna market it at least as good as any other film, while maybe exploring avenues they wouldn't otherwise have to help pull black audiences in. You don't do less and hope to get more.

until i see some statistics, i doubt this is true at all (unfortunately)

It isn't a matter of opinion. She is. Period.

Popularity aside, there aren't any superheroes on the planet that everybody knows, sight unseen, more than Superman, Batman, Spider-Man, or Wonder Woman.
